    This scene was absolutely beautiful because Tamiya finally learned what it meant to be human and sacrificed her life for her child when she had every opportunity to run away. Her character was so interesting to watch and her death almost made me cry (the closest any anime has ever gotten). At the same time, Izumi regained his sense of humanity which finally allowed him to heal from the trauma of his mother's death. Although it cuts the dialogue before, this scene was just so powerful and wonderfully made that it stays as one of my most memorable anime moments I had ever seen.
    Comparing to other shows that I've watched, I feel like the message of the series is what makes it so unique as it posed such a simple and powerful question - What exactly makes us human?

    • @Seproc
      @Seproc 5 років тому +66

      mochi its really not how to be human. But to have someone you care about. Its like a lion to her cubs, not just being brute savages. The show really doesnt revolve around being human. But about all kinds of species living in earth.

      You ever watch Anohana?

    • @kyuma401
      @kyuma401 5 років тому +54

      @@Seproc The message is rather about the same question he originally stated. "What exactly makes us human?" Tamiya/Tamura's death gave the audience insight as to what her thoughts were prior to her death. She questioned her existence and imitated human emotion. This is mainly why she sacrificed herself. Not only that, Izumi slowly began to lose who he was as the anime progressed but regains his posture and cries - meaning the hole in his heart was sealed. He gained his sympathy once more (and I'm not saying sympathy is the main human trait that makes a human, human) which reveals a bit of his lost humanity. Thus poised the question, "What makes us human?".

    • @kyuma401
      @kyuma401 5 років тому +13

      @@Seproc To elaborate on your point, the lion to her cub is a reference to Tamiya. The reason she protected the baby was because it was human. Not because she adored it as her child. The quote "We and humans are family" essentially says that they're on the same level of the food chain. They're equally powerful predators and can learn to live with one another. That's what she was trying to get to Izumi by sacrificing her life. Maybe, just maybe this was all planned out too.

    This scene had me actually crying. I lost my mother too and during the flashbacks I thought of my own mother. She gave her last to feed me and took me on so many vacations as a child and when she died I felt that a piece of me died. My mother was my best friend and she told me when I was a child even if family stops loving you and your friends do just know that I love you and God loves you and that’s all that matter and I will take that to the grave. I miss my mom so much, she gave me life and I am beyond grateful for it!! A mother’s love will never be replaced, it’s supposed to be cherished and it intertwines your spirits

    I love this scene because it reveals that, while we were previously under the impression that Shinichi was unable to cry because Migi was infecting parts of his mind, in reality it was just the fact that he hadn't actually dealt with and accepted the fact that his mother was gone. He had left on that trip, and he hadn't truly come back until now. It gives you hope that no matter what, we will always be human.

      Yeah, we might encounter moments like these, where you feel... nothing, even though you think you should and you make excuses for why you are so cold or maybe even think you're a shitty human being, but most of the time, the grief just didn't hit yet and it's actually your mind trying to protect you from the emptional pain, but when it all falls into place, you finally realize... you can still feel.

      Nobody asked you to make me sad again. Cut it out.
      Seriously though I never put it together that it wasn't actually that he wasn’t fully human, it was because he didn't want to be. He didn't want to accept that the people he lost were truly gone or what had happened to him mattered. It was easier to think of himself, as well as the parasites themselves, as less than human. When he saw her protecting her child like any mother would, his fantasy was disproven. It was like all the humanity, his empathy, and the reality came slamming back at once.
      Good show, great comment. Thank you for the depression and have a great day.

But what really draws me to this anime and is in my top 3 anime (in which i've watched alot off) is the Philosophy behind it, Humans have the biggest weakness and strength at the same time compared to other species, emotional intelligence, but migi slowly changes shinichi... migi changes shinichi into a parasite and makes him grow cold and realise that humans are the true evil by killing multiple species while parasytes only kill one to survive. There is many more points to prove this Philosophy, but what i can say with certainty is that Hitoshi truly made a master piece here.

    2:07 I can’t relate 100% because I never lost any family yet or friends,but I know the feeling most people in the world has and they wish to have this scene play out in real life,and not just undead parents,but people who they care about,so this hits hard.

      as someone who experience lost, even i'm heartless as fuck, i, in a weird way start to cry when he has that flashback on his parents.

      Myrrah same. Lost my mom when I was very little- 8 years old- and I always felt a disconnect with my peers... I understand the feeling of having a whole in your heart
      That’s why when he had those flashbacks of his mom, I couldn’t help but cry myself.
      A mother’s love is powerful... and this scene in a weird way made me feel human again too.

      Nearly lost my mother to strokes and cardiac arrest when I was growing up. Very strange considering she’s an athlete. So yeah, this scene still makes me cry.

    I dont like to get personal on the internet. I feel like it's rude and selfish to be sharing my pain, but I have to say once my father died this year, I stopped crying. Not having my mom alive makes things terrible. As the days go by, I feel fewer and fewer emotions. I want to feel love again, and I want to cry once more.

    A true testament to good story telling. Parasyte is on a level of its own
    It's the best manga and anime, but it just fucks with your emotions. And for that, it's amazing, hard to read again, and hard to watch, cause that is ooh

    I always say it constantly this show was and still is the best Anime I've seen to date. It successfully shows the transformation into insanity perfectly. This is what it feels to be depressed and to have one hope to keep you moving and one to help you drown. It's beautiful honestly I love this anime and Manga religiously.

Honestly hit me so deep and not to mention the style of animation, the intense soundtracks and the storytelling is just extraordinary

    Ryoko was a murderer, a mass murderer, whatever the reason. And this show (and theme) is so good that it makes you forget how cold she was, how indifferent to life she was. Because in this moment, she became a mother, a good mother, who gave her life to protect her son. In the end, she became human.
