This Video is NOT a review of the product, I just wanted to show you guys the new Tobii Head tracker Just because I really like it been geeking out with it for a few days now, What do you guys Think in terms of its usefulness for our content?
I think that is a game changer considering you don't have to worry about a hat that has a tracking device on it, or VR when you are totally inside the game. If you're like me and you just have a standard size 24 inch monitor that is awesome
If the bubble of the eye tracker was about 5x-6x smaller than it was in the first scene, and the color was changed to match the HUD of the aircraft you're flying it would be perfectly fitting. It would definitely help me keep track of the other aircraft as my resolution is usually low due to slow internet.
I agree. I watch 90% of UA-cam on my phone rather than on my computer and this is immensely helpful as I offer can only see the bandit that GS is tracking at the merge and when he finally shoots him down.
Maybe a smaller circle (even just as small as dot-sized) would help and at the same time it wouldn't be as disruptive compared to a bigger circle in some scenarios.
Green bubbles make it feel like more of a HMD overlay it is interesting to see where your focus is at different points in the fight from BVR to BFM and having the circle around where the bandit is helps us the viewers tho i think you are able to roughly see his nose position those of us with 1080 screens cant see that
I like green a lot, partially because it usually matches cockpit/hud backlighting, I also think that a smaller more focused circle would be better, maybe about ~80% the size it is now. Also I should mention if you stream on twitch I've seen it in use but the viewer has their own control on the size, colour and shape of the tracking point.
Maybe just use it to help spot the bandit at the initial stage of the engagement then turn it off. It brings the element of realism into play when the audience also needs to search for that bandit and for me that draws the audience in makes them apart of the HUNT
I think this will be useful for anyone trying to learn how to fight better because we can see how often youre watching the bandit and how often youre looking at your hud/instruments
As someone who would love to get into DCS the eye tracker is really helpful to understand how your interacting with the aircraft and enemy aircraft. Learnt a hell of a lot from your videos, great work!
It will be of tremendous value to teach people to keep up their scans, where and when to scan, during various flight operation regimes. I think it is a great idea and especially to keep your noggin' a little cooler so you can fly longer in greater comfort. You know the old saying, when the fan out front stops... the pilot gets hot! (Has to rely completely on training)
It would be really helpful specifically in BVR or AG missions, I think a green color that matches the HUD would be great because it would be less distractingly
Disagree. Green is used on HUDs because it's the easiest colour to see. You don't really want to see the circle, it's there to act as a guide. Red would be the best colour for that.

So, I’ve been studying operator movements and attention, and this is super helpful in cockpit for that reason. Tying together how you assemble the right state and in what order you check instruments in a quick scan downwards. I’ve worked on US Navy nuclear reactor control panels and data visualization in computing and we do use eye gaze studies to understand how people use dashboards and software. I know for nuclear operator training, we tell people where we look at even point at instruments by hand to get backup confirmation before taking action. Of course, nuclear reactors require a lot of attention but are less time critical most of the time, but the idea is to train in the attention sequence so that during an emergent situation you’ve got a routine nailed down that you can speed through without making mistakes or tripping up on judgement errors. I think outside the cockpit, seeing how you deal with BVR engagements where you’re looking at the sky for contrails and then checking and operating the radar is also instructive. Even more than after the merge. I guess if anything I wish the eye gaze outline were a tiny bit lighter. Just barely enough to indicate.
Green is used because it's the colour most visible to the human eye - which makes it the most intrusive colour, not the least. Red is the least intrusive colour, which is why soldiers use red light in the field if they are forced to use illumination. Your pupils contract less and recover dilation quicker, and red light is more difficult to see over distance because it's the least energetic frequency in the visual spectrum.
@@candle_eatist Which would be fine if it were being used to identify objects inside the cockpit. But it isn't. The reason it's being considered is to help in the identification of objects (aircraft) outside of the cockpit. Also, red is the least "bright" of all colours. And there's nothing saying you need to use bright red. Have a look at the video, red almost appears black when you're not looking directly at it.
i mean the eye tracker isnt 100% accurate so the circle represents the possible area that the eye is looking at. Making it smaller may make it even more confusing
@@tigerpjm what he meant I think is, a green tracker integrates the best with the hud system and feels much more at home than red, which can stick out more and not feel as natural.
I like it. Just keep the on and off button for it's display on a hot key. Note that the green blends with the aircraft display nicely. Also, see if you could make it a little thinner when it shifts around as to not be overwhelming for those nice cinematic shots.
This is amazing! I am already used to it being there, now that I have been watching for a few minutes. The green color is perfect. My only critique is that the bubble should be smaller and/or slightly more transparent.
Dude, green bubbles are sweeet!! Depending on video type, could be always on, or could come on temporarily when bandit is hard to see but close. You’ve got great intuition for what most of us want. I find many times you answer a question seconds after I think of it. Trust your gut with the timing, but this is 100% an incredible tool.
Reduces the immersion a bit, yet very informative. Maybe keep that in mind when deciding what you want to achieve with the video at hand, leaving the bubble on or off.
The bubble would be incredibly helpful. And fun fact... many years ago I worked in the same building as a Tobii office and used to sneak into their bathroom since it was always the cleanest and quietest one. Eventually they caught on and put a lock on the door :(
I for one who does not play DCS, but I find it very interesting to watch you, this is great. I thought it was just my old eyes as the reason I couldn't see the bandits all the time. haha. I didn't realize it was a common problem. Anyway, your content is so interesting and informative. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas from Florida.
The Tobii eye tracker technology was designed for testing web page usability/interaction analysis, and the Track IR series were originally designed to allow people with significant paralysis to interact with a computer (controlling a pointer by moving their head). Cases were someone saw a device and saw a new use for it.
So if you're like me and you go cross-eyed a lot or if you have a lazy eye that looks right when your other eye looks left that would make it very interesting!!
i would like it.....a smaller, dark red bubble would be nice and less prominent and i use the tobii in star citizen even for targeting, as the accuracy for the eye tracking is really good. the headtracker can not compete with track IR though
It helps us watching to follow your planning and thoughts, especially the things you talk about, when the bandit disppears against the ground clutter. Or when you are setting up a BVR fight, we can follow your thoughts by following your eyes inside the cockpit (though lots of us wont know automatically what every instrument and guage is, like you do). So well worth an extensive try out.
I also have a 55 inch display with Track IR and have this exact same issue, so I'm super interested in this device. I see value in the bubble for a video that is going to be posted, but I doubt that I'd leave it on outside of that context. Thanks for exposing this device!
Easy fix, mount your headtracker backwards, tape your IR webcam behind you on the wall or smt like that and last but not least revers some curves in the headtracking software. Yes I am serious, I have tested that and it works.
The bubble is hella better for watching your videos & being able to track your bandit, especially since I mostly watch on my phone. There have been _so_ many times when I lost track of the bandit, but with this I can tell where you are looking and where your bandit is. This avoids any guesswork, allowing me to better understand in real time why you maneuver a certain way. It's a straight winner.
A valid point. I myself don't really have problems with tracking bandits in game but find it very hard after youtube compression and lower resolution screen. (I often watch these videos on my phone) In my opinion the best way to improve your bandit tracking is to do it in game. Same environment same screen. But if it works for you I can't argue with that.
I think the circle is cool in those niche situations like when the bandit is very small and may not be visible at a low resolution. And for showing what to watch in a bvr fight, I don't play dcs (this will change Im saving for the hardware) or fly planes so reading the instrumentation can feel like trying to read another language at times and its really helpful to see what you are looking at because its not always obvious. Otherwise for a dogfight where the bandit is close and it's obvious what's going on and where to look I prefer the circle to not be on the screen. Also I liked when the circle was the same color as the hud, it made it feel less out of place.
This looks very interesting. And for tutorials/teaching this would be awesome!! And just my 2 cents: voting for "Green". Maybe a slight color-shift towards red (warm/"organic") from the regular HUD-green ... to keep it subtle, yet distinguishable from the aircraft's systems ... with a smaller circle, maybe lower opacity?? (if that is possible) ... more like a cue/hint, granting less obscuring/masking ...
I like the bubble, it helps seeing what you're focused on. I like it green, it best contrasts when you are looking down at your instruments and internal controls.
This would've been hilarious to have when the f-22 snuck up on you in the Su-27 Flanker. I would've loved to see the moment you catch the jet in your mirror.
As a new DCS player this is so helpful to see what instruments your looking at and also where your looking because often times watching your videos I tend to struggle to see what your seeing
This would be unbelievably good for tutorial videos, where you can just naturally look around to indicate a button, display, or section of the cockpit. Also in warbird ground attack, would make it very easy to highlight a target/target zone before an attack. Very cool stuff, look forward to see what you do with it.
I like the red circle. It really makes a difference knowing what you are paying attention to and the red but with thin lines helps me distinguish between the hud/hmts and what you are looking at. I watch on a phone but try to replicate your actions in game so this makes a world of difference.
Brilliant tool. I have difficulty seeing the bandits at distance until there much closer so this is super helpful to see where you are looking. Awesome videos man.
I would love more of this. It's not only useful for bandit highlighting, but also knowing where your eyes flick to helps to showcase what I presume to be superior in media res checklisting, which is often a thing that I wish I knew more about for a whole slew of games (SC2, EVE Online) when I'm watching people demonstrate skills.
I kinda like this smaller green circle you had towards the end of the video. Seems to be the least distracting, blends in with the instruments pretty well, and conveys the information you wanted to convey while on the viewer side you can still mentally switch it off and focus on the rest of the screen.
Yet another level to what is already great content. Your success is assured by the educational value you present in your videos. Clear, concise explanations of tactical maneuvers and the occasional comedic injection, and the almost apologetic way you dispatch your opponents makes me a big fan. Can’t wait to see you in the Apache!
I think that as a content creator, with THIS kind of content, the Tobbi eye-tracker makes a lot of sense. Including it also makes you someone who is including something in their videos that most others don't, so you're kind of unique if you use it regularly. The green outline for the Tobii is great. It fits the visible "theme" of the aircraft's cockpit, so it looks like it belongs.
Do you remember when the TV network thought it would be a good idea to highlight the hockey puck on the TV with a glow effect.. Tobii reminds me of that
I’d love the green bubble being used when the bandit isn’t really visible for people like me who always watch your videos on a phone. And of course, not needed when they’re contrasting against the blue sky and they’re visible.
Ohhh, i totally love the eye tracker! It is so helpful in so many ways... It makes it easier to follow and understand and it helps to know where the other planes are so much! For the color I personally would leave it green as in the last part of the video, I think it fits really well with the instruments in the cockpit and isn’t an aggressive contrast like the red. Although you can see the red better sometimes, I really don’t like it because it contrasts so much. So my color ranking is: green (1); white (2); red (3). I hope you keep the I tracking, I like it and it helps a lot! PS: Keep up the good work, your videos are great, I love each and every one of them!
I like the eye tracker option, it shows and teaches the viewer a lot about focus and awareness. I think either white or green work well. I would lean toward green. Thank you for all you do for us.
I really like it, I find it will definitely help people who are new to the channel or are casual flight enthusiasts. For dudes like me, I appreciate that I can see how you're spotting your turns and where you're looking for cues and so on. I think it will help demonstrate BFM principles(flying to your enemy's six etc.) and BVR is going to help viewers learn how to pick up bandits and incoming missiles. I love being able to relate to the thought process, like PoV racing coverage where you can see how the drivers set up their entrances and exits. You can always turn if off if it's not getting it done.
this kind of stuff really helps me with following along in a dogfight. sometimes i just have no idea what to look at lol. make a playlist with all of your eye-tracked videos!! green circle!!!
I think this will be very helpful for all people watching your videos, even for people who play. Personally I think green would look best for showing where you are looking as it blends in nicely alongside the green in the instruments.
The red arrow that you do to highlight the bandit in hard to see situations has been pretty helpful. Maybe use it a little more often but otherwise in the dogfight most of us (of course, there of those of us that dont completely understand the terminology which is fine, i was that person like a month ago) but mostly its really good, and i applaud u for that. I love watching/listening to your content, please keep what u are doing, you really good at commentary in the moment (especially the dogfight) and i enjoy your live thought process of how it is going. I dont personally play DCS (althought id love too try it out with a nice set up) nor am i training to be a pilot currently but i love the geometry of the fight and how you can determine how to win, by knowing how the other aircraft perform against yours, is absolutely fascinating. Again please keep having fun explaining the cool aspects of the fights like u already do, and me and so many other people im sure, will keep up with your incredible work.
i really like the circle. It makes things so much better to see and to understand why to look where in what situation. Especially for me as a beginner is it really helpful. Would love to see more Videos with EyeTracker. Keep going!
Green is best. For tutorials this is a must have. For your normal content it might be a bit distracting at first but I think we'll get used to it and appreciate it.
I think it is neat. Really helps since a lot gets lost in YT's compression. And I can definitely see where it would help when describing various switch presses, or at least showing the general area of where you're working. So, yeah, I can absolutely agree it would help in quite a few areas.
Your channel is a mix of education and entertainment. This feature will enhance the education while slightly detracting form the entertainment. Worth it. I like the TacView content for that too. It has value.
I cannot tell you how many times this would have been so useful in explaining my own decision making to people for ANY air combat game be it DCS, Ace Combat, War Thunder, etc. Biggest part of teaching people BVR for me is where my eyes are (aside from the obvious physics-based segment).
I like the bubble. You definitely hit all the points of when to use it and not use it. The circle would be great for tutorials and for ppl to realize what they should be looking at when flying or engaging contacts. Best bet is to give it a shot and follow up with the comments but also do what you want, that’s why we’re here.
I think this would unlock a lot of answers for BVR engagements. Where what and when you're looking at things, and really clarify the why you're looking at it. Green for BVR. Red for close up engagements
I say if you're going to do it I'd pick green because it fits in with the hud color and stuff, it's cool. I'd also say turn it on and off when needed, because it might get distracting if it was always on
I think this will be helpful not just for pointing out bandits but also just for helping people learn. For instance, seeing when you look at your hud/instruments vs the bandit, how you search the sky when you lose visual, etc.
Yes!!! Use this! Especially for the BVR videos, I at least don't know what you're looking at in the cockpit, and as someone who wants to learn the cockpit layouts as well as the mechanics this seems like a wonderful tool. My vote is to leave it on for all cockpit views. Green I think would be the best color, since it more closely matches the instrumentation and that, I think, would make it blend in and be less distracting for casual viewers while allowing those who want to learn more to follow along more closely
Definitely helpful. White circles. The heatmap could be helpful for some situations in understanding where you spend most of your time monitoring, like horizon scanning or BVR and what instruments you're checking most.
Definitely helpful for me. I frequently watch your videos on my handheld device, so I often can't see the bandit when he's far off or if you've lost him and then found him. Also, the green tricks your eye into thinking it's and extension of your HUD or a helmet mounted sight.
Very cool! I like the white and green bubbles. The headtracking does seem a lot smoother and precise. As for when to use it, I agree with your ideas of instrument scanning and visual target tracking.
Hi GS. Thanks for asking about this. I personally find the “circle” distracting from my immersion in the fight. I agree it’s cool, but I found myself so distracted by the funny shaped circle that I lost track of the fight and the whole of the scene. Your dialogue, to me, is more informative and instructive (plus the occasional red arrow) than, like we used to say in the old sing along TV shows, “follow the bouncing ball.”
Green looks really nice, like many other pointed out a little smaller would work as well and would be less noticable. Definitely something I would try to implement 👍🏼
Ive literally been waiting for this, I'm brand new to dcs so I really appreciate seeing where you're looking, and the green bubble seems least intrusive
The tracking is is smooth and pleasing to the eye. I'd be hesitant to show that all the time, in fact what I'd like to see is momentary flashes of that in post, to get the viewer's attention.
It is funny how games like Falcon 3 all the way back in 1991 had a mode called Padlock mode that kept your eyes on your target. Thirty years later companies are developing fancy eye trackers to do the same thing that software in game could do.
I have been using Tobii for DCS for a long time, but I mostly use the headtracking and NOT the eyetracking component of it. Am pretty happy with it in general! nice to see you try it out! Its actually also very useful for instructional videos, where its easy to show on what switches you are clicking etc.
I actually enjoy looking around for the bandits when its not crystal clear where they're at but the Tobii seems like a pretty awesome eye/head tracker that will make videos much easier to watch and track bandits.
The bubble is situational , super useful at times . Dude with your editing skills you could turn it on when needed , like when your scanning for enemies or missiles , and yes during head down BVR fights , I can see what your focus is , very instructional .
Great video. I have just got into DCS and your channel is one of the most helpful for new players. I have been using the Tobi eye tracker in MSFS 2020 and I love it. Would you post your settings for DCS and I can’t seem to get the smooth movement. Cheers!
This is helpful. Clear looks best. Maybe having the bubble smaller would be better but this eye tracker is definitely a plus for your content moving forward
Would recommend NOT turning on the bubble at all; we can see generally in what direction you're looking at simply by camera change - there'a already enough cockpit clutter that makes things difficult to see, that I believe the bubble (though very interesting) might obscure even more. Couple that with HMDs and woof....
Def. digging the red circle. Best contrast, given the varied terrain and that cockpit instruments are typically green. Super helpful as a viewer to get SA on other aircraft.
I think the white bubble is perfect and it does give us a great feeling of what you are looking at. I like VR and TrackIR but the freedom of just sitting down and tobii always being ready and not needing any gadgets to work, is just so nice. I would love to see your settings for Tobii. I was never able to get it stable. Looking at extremes would often get twitchy. I had to go back to TrackIR as I could just not tweak the settings to work. This was back when tobii was first released though, so I need to try it again and see if things have gotten better.

There have been _so_ many times when I lost track of the bandit, but with this I can tell where you are looking and where your bandit is. This avoids any guesswork, allowing me to better understand in real time why you maneuver a certain way. It's a straight winner.
Being able to look for the enemy myself in your videos is what helps me spot better in game. I think the circle takes away from it.
@@Kolaotse I use a quest 2, they both look like small dots 🤷♂️
I’ve got tons to learn and watching what your eyeballs are doin and talking through it is such a ginormous help
Please keep it on, not only it shows the bandit, it also shows us where your eyes look… perfect teaching tool
I like it. It is a good tool.
Yeah lmao
Tobii reminds me of that
I could see this help especially for air to ground. Always fun to see an experienced guy run the electronics.
Green bubble blends in best with the rest of what's on-screen, making it less distracting.
I really like the green circle. I don’t even mind it being on all the time. Gives a lot more context to the videos imo.
I think this will be very helpful for all people watching your videos, even for people who play. Personally I think green would look best for showing where you are looking as it blends in nicely alongside the green in the instruments.
I watch almost all your videos from my phone so it helps tremendously to spot bandits and tell what you’re looking at in the cockpit.
Works brilliantly. It actually shows where you are looking. Superb addition
For pointing out the bandit/target, instrument buttons, many things - I like it. All the time may be a bit much, but selected use would be cool :)
Personally i find the red easier to isolate and overlook. In the cockpit it was really cool to "see" what instrument panel your working.
The bubble is going to be a great help for people who watch your videos to learn. I'd definitely keep it.
The tracking is is smooth and pleasing to the eye. I'd be hesitant to show that all the time, in fact what I'd like to see is momentary flashes of that in post, to get the viewer's attention.
For bvr, absolutely use the circle, it's a game changer. For knife fights it's more of a debate
Neon green is sick! It just feels more natural!
I like the green bubble. Looks like kinda of a helmet-mounted UI. It is informative but still immersive.
Love the red or green bubble already as is. It's a great improvement.
Very helpful in keeping track of the bandit. Many times without bubble I’m completely clueless.
the eye trackers helps SO MUCH, half the time i dont see the enemy on the screen when you do, for color I'd suggest green like the HUD
I think it is a perfect tool for showing and not just telling the story of the things that people should be doing.
Green bubble for sure since it looks more like part of the HMD that way, while helping give context as to where you're looking.
I think it would be neat to have the bubble the same green as the HUD
Great video. I have just got into DCS and your channel is one of the most helpful for new players. I have been using the Tobi eye tracker in MSFS 2020 and I love it. Would you post your settings for DCS and I can’t seem to get the smooth movement.
Cheers!
I like it the green circle was the the best color. It would very helpful most of the time to be able see and understand better what your looking at.
One: that is an awesome bit of tech.
Two: go with the green circle to match the helmet mounted displays.
The part for tracking instruments in BVR and notches when hitting SAM sites is perfectly useful for us DCS Newbies!
This is helpful. Clear looks best. Maybe having the bubble smaller would be better but this eye tracker is definitely a plus for your content moving forward
I dig it. Ever since I started to play with a TV, my gaming experience has gotten soo much better
