First time was a booker for me too. I loaded it up with some penetrating oil, waited a bit. More oil, waited the tapped on it with a rubber mallet, then was able to wrench it off. It was tough.
If it's too difficult to get off your best option is to cut it off and replace it. Better to spend a few bucks on a new one than risk damaging the threads on the valve.
Good video. My hot water valve is hsrd to turn. Do you think that I can just put lube in there or should I just replace the valve. I have same 1700 as you.
My two cents- by time you get in there to lube it properly, you might as well have just swapped the guts because they WILL go bad eventually. Thats just my two cents though.
Any tips for when the retainer at 1:57 doesn't want to come off? I just reefed on that thing with a pipe-wrench and it doesn't move...

You can also call delta and they will give you one for free ! But it’s a 5 hour wait
