      have you heard of exponential growth? knowledge is pretty much the same, when you now very little you think you know everything, but when you start to learn more and more then you start to see how exponentially vast the universe actually is compared to your previous perspective, and then you realize how puny your knowledge is compared to this vast universe.

      As someone who has worked at dealerships, the system creates issues where most things are guessed at and then the tech moves onto the next job. Under warranty, guessing at a part replacement will typically pay better than diagnosis. This type of repair then gets translated to customer pay jobs. This attitude results in poor customer service, but is ultimately what keeps the money rolling in. The customer reaction at the German luxury dealers I have been at is typically the same (under warranty or customer pay), the customer gets frustrated and eventually trades the car in for the next model.... the ‘problem car’ is sent to auction.... and becomes some else’s problem!

    Everyone makes mistakes in diagnosis! It doesn't matter if you are a doctor or an auto tech, we WILL make a mistake and sometimes a foolish mistake. Perhaps this was a very young tech just starting out or whatever, my point being that unless you know the backstory, you have to do like Dan does and simply diagnose and correct the problem without shitting on the other guys work because one day, my fellow tech and non-tech commenters, you will be on the other end of this! As a licensed tech for more than 40 years, I speak from experience. Very well presented and logically diagnosed, Dan, as usual!! I always respect and enjoy your professionalism!

      On turbo diesel engines, if the seal in the turbo axis leaks, the oil that cools and lubricates the turbo axis goes into the intake. this can cause an engine runaway condition.
      On a petrol engine? nah, it would be OIL inside a GAS/PETROL engine... but I guess if not too much it could still cause a rich condition...

    OMG! didn't realize direct injection has the same failure modes as a diesel. Customer is lucky a connecting rod didn't get bent, an engine fire started, or damage to the catalytic converter. Whewww. This is good to know Dan. Failure modes seem endeless in diagnostics. Learning soo much from your channel. Thank you so much for sharing valuable information!!

    How many videos have I seen where the car was misdiagnosed. When the dealership does it, it reflects badly on the manufacturer. I would think the factory would pay for and insist on qualified diagnosticians at their own dealerships. Your videos are always interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing.

    Greed video mate....lol.....bloopers are original......lol. You just got yourself a sub. Great diagnosis. Looking at one of those scan tools, the 808bt.....o am no mechanic, but would like to do some of these kind of work myself and save......bad enough dealerships charge so much for the parts. So dammed hard to find good, and more importantly , honest mechanics these days.

      DiagnoseDan friend I have question for you. Does internal leak in fuel pump affect performance of pump itself? Meaning can pump achieve peak pressure under load conditions? And could you use downstream oxygen sensor to see fuel mixture instead of using gas analyzer? I hope these questions make sense. Thank you sir.

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  6 років тому +1

      @@kyhomegarage3430 i kept the old pump and i still need to find if it's leaking internaly from the high or low side. If it's a smal leak on the low side the low pressure fuel pump could have enough capacity to make up for the loss. You could use the O2 sensors instead of the gasanalyser, but i would prefer the upstream.

    I do not agree with what you said about the Dealership!! That is in fact real POOOOOOOR service that Lady got from them. I call that robbing someone blind. Poop on that Dealer!
    That Diagnosis was not that difficult especially considering the lady gave 100% accurate information to the dealer. Tech's like that need way more education and should not be working on something like that at all, thank good that lady was smart enough to come and see you.

      @@Diagnosedan Now, to be honest, if they bothered to pull out that dipstick at least they could have seen that there is fuel being dumped into that oil pan. It's the dealer for f*** sake, not some passer-by that thinks to be a technician. The dealer should have been "harmed" (named) in the making of this video but that's my opinion.

    • @ralfsautomotive

      I suppose the tech tryed but that does not excuse the fact that they(the dealer) gave the job to a tech at a lesser level for such a problem.
