- Does the OM-1 paired with the 12-100mm f/4 Pro lens with Sync-IS mean you don't need a tripod in the Lakes?
Well, a trip to the Loweswater area of the Lake District was a perfect test for the image stability of the 12-100mm lens in different conditions. From the baking heat of one of the hottest weeks the UK has ever seen to high contrast woodland it took it all in it's stride and was a joy to use.
Come for a wander with me and see what I thought on the way.

I have the OM1 for 2 months with the 12-100 and 8-25 and I am very happy with their quality, with the 12-100 you can also get beautiful photos of flowers and insects. Thank you for this video so relaxing, greetings from italy 😊
Grazie Paolo!
I spent two weeks in Iceland with my OM1 and this lens (amongst others), it is just such a superb performer! The only time I used a tripod was for time-lapses...kind of hard not to use one for those. Cheers, great video and thanks! Just looked: 70% of the photos in Iceland were with that combo, 15% with the Leica 100-400, 7% with the 7-14 and the rest with either the 60 macro or 75 f1.8, both of which I had along because they tuck away so beautifully...
It seriously has been stuck to my camera as my go to lens since I bought it - astounding performer!
I recently acquired OM-1 and 12-100 so very much enjoyed seeing what’s possible. Thank you.
You'll love that combo Sean! The 12-100 has hardly been off my OM-1 since I bought it!
I enjoyed your waterfall shot Leigh. Having watch your vids I have just bought a 12-100 to use on my EM1X , cant wait to try it! John
You're going to absolutely love it John!
I’m already impressed Leigh, it arrived just now and taken some test shots indoors, lightning fast focus and looking v sharp on the rear lcd. Boy can it do close focus, almost a macro lens. Thanks for your help in my choice. John
I'll warn you now it'll be stuck to your camera most of the time! I very rarely use any other lens these days it's so versatile!
Greetings from New Zealand. Excellent shots. Thanks. Looks live a "must visit" area
Thank you! It's definitely a place that I love visiting and it's one of those spots that you can go multiple times and still find new views to enjoy!
Actually can't wait to get back there!
Great work! Loved watching this 🍀🤗
Thank you Lauren! Might be another trip coming up soon, but the weather doesn't look so good so it might be a little more interesting!
Great pictures. In most of your pictures, the shutter speed is sufficiently fast, even for cameras without the stabilizer. Why did you include these photos? I was hoping for more photos with slower shutter speeds below 1/60th.
Bright days like that it was always going to happen really. The last trip we were on was much darker conditions and the shutter speeds were a lot longer. A side effect of the conditions I suppose!
Very enjoyable vlog
Thank you Barry!
Have you tried a handheld focus stack for your landscape images?
Not yet, but you've given me an idea for something to try!
Sitting there you try "pro-capture" on the fish. The combination gives so much flexibility. Lovely images.
Thank you Brian!
You got to visit the lake district eagle cap Wilderness in Oregon
Might be heading back to the lakes this weekend. Although the weather doesn't look too fantastic so far! From what I've seen though Oregon has some stunning views!
I think the shot at 6.31 was the best. Maybe a tripod would have been better when you took that panorama at the end. Looks like conditions were great for a long exposure there. But the image stabilisation is so good that long exposures are the only reason why you really need a tripod.
Thank you Guido!
Nice run with my favourite lens. But I'm curious about the 1/2" exposure at 7 min in. Is there a good reason for shooting at iso 800? If I'd had my wits about me I'd have shot at native iso (200) and then used nd32.
Mostly due to trying to get the shot between people and dogs running through the scene. Sadly on one of those sort of days every chance they got there were dogs splashing through and their owners joining in!
Just a quick heads-up Leigh: your promo image for the video is showing 12-200 instead of 12-100. I thought you might like to edit it. p.s. I haven’t actually watched the vid yet, hence why no comment on the content. I’ll do that later.
Well spotted Stephen! I'll get that changed! Thank you!!
