I’m glad I’m not the only one who was very pleasantly surprised to see such a short window between the single release and album release for Luke Combs. I think artists are trying to build up too much hype and losing some of it in the process, so Luke’s upcoming release feels refreshing. I also love that Monsters got a shout out. That is an awesome song.
2:49 - 2:56 Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma, it kinda gives some southern rock vibes like Blake Shelton’s God Country and Come Back As A Country Boy, also reminds me of Eric Church’s Stick That In Your Country Song, and Chris Stapleton’s Watch You Burn
Really agree with what you said about Luke Combs! He just keeps putting out more good music while continuing to be a solid presence in the country world, with no drama of any kind. I have a lot of respect for that
8:08 - 8:19 I think Zach needs to do all the colors in songs. He’s got orange, pink, and purple down. Now he needs red, yellow, green, blue, brown, gray, black, silver, and gold, and he’s got it lol
Lainey’s songs are always so well written!! And the line of fans getting straight up sideways is an ode to her song Straight Up Sideways from the Sayin What I’m Thinking album!
I'm sure it's impossible to keep up with all the new music, but I always really enjoy your quick commentary videos on a bunch of new music. I've been personally really enjoying the new releases by American Aquarium, Megan Moroney, 49 Winchester, and Rye LaChance. Keep up the good work!
I said this last year, half the albums are out before they’re released these days. I don’t listen to radio so I took it upon myself to not proactively listen to any singles that would be attached to an album and it paid off. I got to hear Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton’s new albums this year without already being sick of the singles that came out first. About to listen to Luke Combs’ new album this morning.
You need to talk about what I call "The Summer Albums of Girl Power" and its Carly Pearces 'Hummingbird' which came out in june, Megan Moroney's 'Am I Ok?' coming in July and Whirlwind by Lainey Wilson comming in August. You could also talk about or mention Lasso by Lana Del Rey coming out in september
Zach is my favorite artist overall. Luke and Lainey would be my favorite conventional male and female country artists. I'm happy to see all three releasing fresh music going into summer, because things are looking semi-bleak at the moment otherwise.
I LOVE Luke combs album!!!!!!! ❤❤❤ it’s amazing!! But I might be biased.. I’m 3 years older than Luke with two boys of very similar ages. My youngest is only a month older than his youngest. This entire album is most likely gonna be on repeat at my house.
I just listened to the whole “Fathers And Sons“ album; I think it’s my favorite album from Luke Combs to date because I love all of its tacks‘ heartfelt lyrics and theme of the relationship between father and son. Also, its music leans heavier into the acoustic and bluegrass side of country with a little bit of piano and brush drums, which further melts my heart as a country listener. I give this album 10 out of 10.
This summer is going to be a big one between these and new releases from Morgan Wade, Kaitlin Butts, and Lauren Watkins to look forward to! Really like the new Carly Pearce also.
Zach Bryan’s ‘Pink Skies’ is my favorite of the three, however Lainey’s song is very catchy and the song Luke did for the Twisters album ‘Ain’t no love in Oklahoma’ is such a great track! Excited to hear all the records!
Luke’s career dipped during his last album? I don’t know man, between Fast Car being played a hundred billion times on the radio and a whole summer of two-night sellout shows in football stadiums I don’t think I noticed any dip.
I think what Grady said about Luke is very accurate. He’s always solid no matter what he sings. He still has some big hit songs but everything is just really solid (in a good way)
its not new but i'd love to see you talk about charley crockett, just in general, but also what hes done in the industry and whatnot. idk id watch it tho!
You absolutely have to Zach Top's Album it's called Cold Beer & Country Music it is 100% 90's Country Zach is going to the Moon and will be the next George Strait!
I like all 3 of the songs talked about in this video, my favorite of the 3 is probably Pink Skies. Also, I didn’t know Lainey’s album cover was a horse until this video, so I just had a duh moment lol.
Josh is on fire right now. Also writer on jellys new release "im not ok" Love your content.Nashville born n raise local musician songwriter here! Always look foward to notifications where you have uploaded!!
I'm really looking forward to when we go back to calling them albums, not eras. And while we're at it, can we say 'released' and not 'dropped'. That's my annual old man grump out the way, as you were.
Grady, I hate to be another "you needa do this" comment... But really looking forward to what you're thinking abour Sturgill going back on tour! I'm so hyped. A little nervous, but so hyped. 🙈
Still patiently awaiting the day when Mountain Air by Holler Choir gets moment on this channel. Can't sleep on the best americana material outside of Childers forever.
Demo-itist. That’s awesome!! Being someone who found Lainey Wilson in 2018 I get worried that she’ll start getting hate for her success. Glad to see that’s she being her in her music. The outrage for who and who does win awards is why I don’t watch award shows anymore. I just search out the performances on UA-cam days later.
I think it’s time I touch on the complaints about "overproduction" in country music: if you truly want to know what overproduced music sounds like, go listen to Jon Pardi’s "Mr Saturday Night" album. That’s an album that should’ve been a little more stripped down and acoustic. It’s a great album otherwise.
Link to the purple gas review? Never saw it and I think it’s one of the best written songs of the last decade so would be interested to hear your thoughts
Hey Grady! Love the channel and just your take on music in general. I was wondering what your thoughts were on Taylor’s Tortured poets department? I know it probs won’t get a dedicated video but I know you are a big fan of hers. Thanks!
take the men out of this question and then the answer is yes. to me, again just my view here, the male vocalists in country at least the "mainstream" ones wouldn't know country music if it bit them on the ass. now, the female side of country is getting us closer to the George Straight, Garth Brooks, and Shania Twain era of country (thank god). i don't think we will ever get back to the Hank Jr, Willie Nelson and Co. era of country music sadly but ill take the 2nd greatest era of the genre as a consolation prize.
7:42 - 7:52 I don’t think Lainey would be the one or type to pull strings for her to win these awards over Morgan and the others. Maybe it’s her label who’s behind it, and some dealing with the voters idk
I did actually know he was gonna drop a song with purple in it. I told my buddy I think he is gonna drop a song with purple in it and he said oh okay. Alright LeGradySmith
3:05 - 3:44 yeah I feel like Luke and Chris Stapleton too are the most “normal” and sorta more reliable artists who people just love and that people can always count on them. And yeah cause of Morgan’s kinda constant controversies and issues people have with him on his chair throwing incident, and him not being a favorite at the award shows (which I feel like these are the reasons why he never wins, and I feel like they’re still not over his N word incident, which happened 3 years ago!) and Zach’s social media presence and being sort of a liberal (like Karen Morris)
Laney is smokin hot, kind, classy, and an incredibly talented voice. I think the song choices have been terrible (Smoke/Countrys Cool Again/Hang Tight) lately. Her duets and ballads have been amazing. Seems like they’re trying to force uptempo songs but just pick one instead of 3 in a row. Just one persons opinion!
Lainey is a powerhouse like none other. I caught Miranda live, over 25 years ago, & she was a firecracker from the get go. Then, just over 3 years ago, I was in the vicinity of Lainey before she even hit the stage, & you could just tell she was gonna grab them by balls, & she did. Her energy is off the charts, & that’s rare, especially from a country artist.
I’ll never understand the hype around her. She sounds like so many female stars before her…Miranda, Carrie, Shania, etc. I can’t find anything about her that’s fresh or unique. Kat Hasty and Morgan Wade though, they’re very different.
Im getting burnt out on zach bryan. All his songs sound pretty similar. And he puts out way to much. You dont have anytime to gel with a project before hes hyping his next
What are your thoughts on Danielle Bradbery's new single "Broken Boy". It's got some of the most racy lyrics I've ever heard in a country song with "shameless sex every night". (Also, there's a crazy amount of Russian comments on her UA-cam videos)
Not a hater, but im glad the Wallen hype is dying off (my girlfriend would kill me for saying that). Its refreshing to see the new wave with real instruments and real feelings. Its been a long time coming but i think we can agree its here and way better than we imagined it would be.
Some of Wallen's stuff: "Rednecks, Red Letters, Red Dirt," "Sand in My Boots," "Quittin' Time," "Me and All Your Reasons," "Everything I Love," "Dying Man," etc. Is such good quality music, and I wish he'd clean up his act and lean more into that. He's talented, and could make great music if he so chose. It makes me sad
Grady u needa hop on that new Ernest album, its amazing
Totally agree!
I been on it. I was just in negotiation/travel/overwhelming life mode when it happened!
The song with Laney Wilson is an absolute masterpiece!…half way thru the album and it’s proving how incredible of a song writer Earnest is👍🏼
“Demo-itis” 😂 thank you giving this phenomena a name haha
2:49 - 2:56 Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma, it kinda gives some southern rock vibes like Blake Shelton’s God Country and Come Back As A Country Boy, also reminds me of Eric Church’s Stick That In Your Country Song, and Chris Stapleton’s Watch You Burn

Lainey’s songs are always so well written!! And the line of fans getting straight up sideways is an ode to her song Straight Up Sideways from the Sayin What I’m Thinking album!
4:31 - 4:50 The cover of Whirlwind gives me Carrie Underwood vibes

Luke’s album was so so good. Especially as someone with a young son. I’ll be listening for many years
Your videos always help me notice new things in songs. Especially Zach songs, there’s always a lot of word play and I can get lost in the feeling.
