Why would anyone ruined their reputation with it I invite u to ride rally with stock 1.6 vtec and we will break the speed limit and i will ride. Its not cars fault if the driver is unexperienced!!
I had a EP3 type R for over 7 years. The engines are bulletproof but if you are thinking of buying one make sure to check for rust. The cars are getting old now and they can rust really bad under the rear arches causing structural damage to the chassis. You can't see it from the outside so make sure to remove and look behind the rear speakers. This will let you see if there is rust behind the wheel arch liners. If the car is clean there it's probably good.
I bought one not long ago, great on fuel cheap to tax and insure and surprisingly nippy. Remote locking, electric windows and sunroof. Mine had one owner from new fsh paid £750 can't complain.
If you don't mind the typical bare essential JDM interior, it's an amazing car to have as a run around and definitely fun to drive, cheap to buy and maintain
I bought it as my first car as a 19yo but it's so much fun and it actually stands out from all basic daily driver's Fords and Suzukis 😁. Loved the vid but without the spoiler and stuff I don't think about it as a ricer, it shows what it is😄
It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow. On the street having all that horsepower is just gone to waste, can't use it without losing your license.
I miss my EP2, defo the best first car choice I made! Exhaust setup was definetely not this loud which I think made it perfect Best first car ever - And yes the clutch is a b** to get used to 😂

Unfortunately price fluctuates quite a bit. I wouldn't pay more than £1500 for this even for one in the cleanest condition as they were cheap when new and demand isn't that high
Love this review 👌 i wanted a toyota celica sooooo bad for a first car but this video has really put me onto the ep2 due to the statistics ive heard.... but whats an average price for insurance for a 17 y.o on one of these?
Glad you liked the review! Insurance obviously varies due to many factors, but I can't imagine it being too high for a small 1.6 engine with such low power. With the mods, it can feel like a rocket without requiring rocket maintenance or bill money!
It should be able to push a 0-60 in less than 10 seconds if you're using super and have almost nothing in the tank... I've got the basic version of the EP2 with standard wheels on it, and a more sedate factory exhaust, and while it's not a fast car by any stretch, where it really shines is on winding A roads. You can keep it at 55 with your foot hard down and just throw it around. Big problems on these are the steering rack and the input shaft bearing. The rack was the 1st gen electric rack, and they're prone to sticking when the grease dries out, which in turn messes up the motor and torque sensor. Mine is on a rebuilt rack, and it's been trouble free for about 60k miles so far, and showing no signs of trouble yet.... touch wood.... The input shaft bearings on them are pretty fragile compared to the EP3. Mine was replaced during a geabox rebuild, and again, no issues since. If you change the transmission fluid every couple of years, it helps a lot. The other problem that gets them is rust on the rear arches, but there's not much can be done about that.
@@CarNitty No worries matey. Something else worth noting is that while it does have VTEC, it's the more economy focussed version running on a single cam. You can sometimes feel it kick a little, but it's nothing compared to the EP3. The Type S version looks a lot like the Type R, but it's no different mechanically to the basic version, so exactly the same VTEC. What is quite curious about mine is that it if I try to drive it economically (pottering about in 5th at about 45, gentle acceleration etc - the usual stuff), it doesn't do much for the mpg. If you rag it a little in 3rd, change late and run at slightly higher revs, it is more economical.... I've still not got a clue why. The old EJ9 was the same. Just liked to be ragged a bit.
You're definitely correct. I mean, you're 17. You've got all the experience in the world and every EP2 in the world is identical to the one you've picked up 👍
I don't get why some people are saying the car got violated. It's not a fast car. Everyone knows that including the owner. The straight pipe is not the owners fault - his cat was stolen and the lack of speed and noise makes it a ricer. It's my job to be honest and truthful as a reviewer! That being said, it makes it an incredible car for a young driver for all the same reasons. I think the mods are tasteful. A sheep in wolf's clothing as someone else commented earlier. Saiful has now moved into a 3.2 VR6 A3 which will be on the channel soon which I'm looking forward to due to our on screen chemistry!
Blimey, when he's old enough to drive, god knows what will be a good first project car for him. These civics will no doubt be extinct as they're reaching 20 years of age soon enough!

Amazing vid but deffo not a first car. You need a small engine to start with, that teaches you discipline on the roads and tbh as a first car it just needs to get you from A-B and that's it First car being a 1.6 you'd either end up wrapped around a tree or driving too fast 24/7 And if you get a black box policy on a car you're just wasting your money and the potential of the car you're driving.

Being young and having a fast-ish car doesn't mean I drive like an idiot, living with this thing probably makes me a better driver in the long run.

I can't believe there isn't an petrol egnine option between 110hp and full blown typeR. 110 is just too damn slow in this car, wish there was a 140-150hp version this just doesn't make sense
It cost me £29 to drive to Belfast and back last week, return that’s a total of 160 miles motorway driving 70% of the journey ( roughly ) 65mph going as easy as I could , is that not thirty ?
I'd have to disagree with you there. From factory, it's a pretty boring looking 3 door Civic and it's not very powerful as well as not a popular car for young people which makes it a recipe for cheap insurance!
You've missed the point, though. Cars don't have to be fast to be fun. A Rolls Royce Phantom isn't about speed, it's about luxury. Just like that, this Honda is about pure driving pleasure with the VTEC and 5-speed manual
Souded like crap 10sec into the vid. Love the car but hate wen people have a crap exhaust. And all the tyre r badges on the ep2. He needs to get bit closer to the steering wheel any further back he’d be laying down.
The owner covers why the car is straight piped when we go for a drive and he's driving. His catalytic converter was stolen and this car doesn't actually have any Type R badges. Only red Honda badges and genuine EP3 seats

I've been waiting for someone like you to finally comment. 7k views and only now do I have the pleasure. Firstly, the gearknob was replaced with a Mugen one so it's blank with no markings as to what gear it's in. I daily drive a BMW M135i with a ZF8 so on a day in to day basis, I'm not used to manual cars especially when the gearbox is mounted on the dashboard. Finally, the gearbox was on it's way out and it sometimes wouldn't go into gear or go back into neutral by itself. You won't believe this car was sold on shortly after this video and now the current owner is selling up due to needing a gearbox replacement. Let me know if you want to have a test run in that! Not sure how you guys are paying so much for an EP2. I really can't comment on why insurance prices have risen so much
@@CarNitty crazy isn't it, it hasn't stopped me from buying it though, £1300 and expensive to insure but its all worth it
7th is dead when try to find true pleassure. 6th is the way to go. EJ EK.
Put your plate in the right place lmao such a prat way to have a plate
It's a preferential choice for any owner
Bro rode tf out of the clutch
If the clutch is slipping and it needs replacement then that's the only way to drive it without stalling
Ohh I had one of these.. wk04…
I had the cosmic grey with spoiler.
D-16 lots of performance parts from usa
I had spoon sport 4 pot brakes on it too :)
Manifold
Full exhaust system
Lowered
Aftermarket alloys
147hp was the final HP
Very surprising to hear you managed to get this lump to produce 147BHP!
@@CarNitty
Cost a few grand…
It had cams too and a ported head
Best thing to do is turbo kit from USA 🇺🇸 It’s a very common engine over their (D17 also)
@@CarNitty oh and a high flow cat and race clutch, weight reduction (rear seats out) and bucket seats…
Sold it as I needed to get a more sensible car as I was getting engaged.. got a fiesta st 55 plate instead..
Given the HP/ton I’d reached on the the EP2 the 55 plate Fez ST didn’t feel much faster tbh.
Compared to a stock EP2… well pretty much anything is faster :)
comparing BMW M car with 1k car =))) ep2 sport does 0-100h in 8sec stock, fuel light on, 17 wheels.
@@miezu2 the BMW M135i is not an M car and no comparison was made with with this car
I can't believe there isn't an petrol egnine option between 110hp and full blown typeR. 110 is just too damn slow in this car, wish there was a 140-150hp version this just doesn't make sense
Sounds like you need a Celica in your life 👀
There's the ep3 Si but mostly in US
i have an ep2 in blue like yours, i find her thirsty even when i drive easy on her and quiet dead, not that nippy
Surprised you find it thirsty. You must be hitting that VTEC every time!
It cost me £29 to drive to Belfast and back last week, return that’s a total of 160 miles motorway driving 70% of the journey ( roughly ) 65mph going as easy as I could , is that not thirty ?
@@caleb4790 the EP2 has a 5 speed gearbox. That sounds about right for the miles you got especially with the current prices of fuel
@@CarNitty oh right fair enough . Thanks mate
@@caleb4790 if you had a 6 speed, I'd say it would cost you 15% to 20% less
Best of luck finding one for 500
They've skyrocketed quite a bit from when this video was done. You may be able to find a rust bucket EP2 for that price!
Got one. But i need new exhaust.
Just straight pipe it!
Love this car but its not insurance friendly looooool
I'd have to disagree with you there. From factory, it's a pretty boring looking 3 door Civic and it's not very powerful as well as not a popular car for young people which makes it a recipe for cheap insurance!
@@CarNitty 1.8k is not cheap bro 🤣
@@MotorAlli I think as a first driver, you're lucky to even get insured within your first two years in certain parts of UK!
@@CarNitty down south there's nothing going on haha, right back to recording me sanding the spoiler 😂
Lets be real the car is just slow
You've missed the point, though. Cars don't have to be fast to be fun. A Rolls Royce Phantom isn't about speed, it's about luxury. Just like that, this Honda is about pure driving pleasure with the VTEC and 5-speed manual
Test a Swift Sport 1st gen
If I'm able to get my hands on one, I'd be up for it!
@@CarNitty Nice, they are great cars!!! Similar to this, slow but loads of fun!
Driver is wayyyy to far from the steering wheel, he’s got to fully extend he’s arms just to hold the wheel🤦🏽♂️
It's up to people how they wish to sit in their own cars I'm afraid
Souded like crap 10sec into the vid.
Love the car but hate wen people have a crap exhaust. And all the tyre r badges on the ep2.
He needs to get bit closer to the steering wheel any further back he’d be laying down.
The owner covers why the car is straight piped when we go for a drive and he's driving. His catalytic converter was stolen and this car doesn't actually have any Type R badges. Only red Honda badges and genuine EP3 seats
@@CarNitty the red badges only come on the type r.
Yes, I'm aware but the car itself doesn't have type R written on it and no one would debadge that so that's the biggest clue this isn't a type R
The guy s seating position is a fucking joke:))))) and the steering wheel cover jesus christ.
Glad you saw comedy in something that wasn't even intended for comedic purposes ☺️
Do let me know what driving school you work so myself and the featured person can get some specialist driving lessons...
my man needs to learn how to drive manual 😂 what gear am i in🤦♂
I've been waiting for someone like you to finally comment.
Regardless, hope you enjoyed the video
@@CarNitty LOOL It's all Luv Bruv ! we all had to start somewhere! At least you are honest about not driving manual cars. anywho keep up with the vidz All love from North America !
Glad you enjoyed the video and I left the issues I had on purpose for the comedy factor
The L15 1.5 in the jazz has 130 and this 1.6 has 108bhp . Weak engine.
don't need to be 17😂 there just fun
Lots of cars are fun. The EP2 will have an expiry date at some point as you'll want more power at did point!
😂😂saiful is too jokes
This video wouldn't be what it is right him!
Get the 2002 se one more old people drive so not fucked when second hand and the same engine
These Honda's are solid as bricks. They suit the golden generation of the import/tuner culture
@@CarNitty I got the 2002 se 3 door same engine one old lady driver thing is it’s hard to get good wheels onit as 4x100
@@CarNitty is there a good exhaust to get for the se that’s not really silly loud but better then the stock? What you suggest?
@@joby4575 Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to advise you further on that. I'd say maybe a resonator or backbox delete. Don't delete both or else it'll be loud as this one!
@@joby4575 look who I found hahaha
Not my type of car :/
It's not for a lot of people including me but that doesn't mean it's not fun or an option for other people!
Bruv need some practice driving manual
I'm glad you got the satire of this video
Worst driver i have ever seen!
@@IncoG8 it seems some satire and comedic value in this video was clearly lost on you
Lol you just cant drive
You keep hating on bros car that you can't drive
nitty
oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Well done on figuring out the pun behind the UA-cam channel name 👍🏼
how the fuck is that a ricer it's virtually bone stock visually.
The red badges and type R wheels and seats mimic that of a real Type R. Most people don't modify their EP2s at all let alone for it to look like a replica EP3
@@CarNitty Okay??? What about that makes it a ricer???? The fact he made it look like an EP3??? This is tasteful modding man, nothing about it is riced.
Bro...........?? Do you actually know what "ricer" means???? Why do you keep saying that??? This is absolutely nothing like a "ricer" whatsoever??? It's a very clean example of a Civic??
This car is a replica Type R with the wheels, seats and red badges. It even has an insanely loud exhaust.
@@CarNitty Not a ricer though dude, at all, nothing you just described details a ricer.
@@CarNitty Look up "ricer car" on google images man haha, or hell, watch the early Fast and furious. These will help you understand what a "ricer" is, a loud exhaust, or a bad sounding one doesn't mean a car is a ricer, it means it has a bad exhaust setup. Car is super clean and looks almost stock. And the mods are very respectable, not even slightly a ricer, I think you have a significant misunderstanding of what a ricer is, no disrespect.
