As an EP3 Type R owner I have to agree with the experience. Brilliant car that makes you want drive like a race car driver everywhere! Not as fast as modern day cars but much more engaging and stirs emotions when driven properly on the right roads
Looks like you've got yourself a decent project car Matt, looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Would love a Type R. I've got the 5 door Type S 2.0l and they float under the radar a bit, but still quick enough.
Although I never intended to, I ended up driving a 1.4 version of that Civic body model for 15 years, in terms of a car that always started and never ever broke down, that Honda was amazing. Apart from the R series Honda may not produce sexy cars but they do make reliable ones :)
@@asensibleyoungman2978 Don't disagree but would take it further, apart from real sex, describing a car as 'sexy' is hilarious in the sense that it's just a machine. I've got the standard old man shopping spec one, I love it, I spent a fortune on it when I first rescued it. Hadn`t been serviced in around 6 years. hit every thing in sight 45.000 I couldn`t not save it. Modified cars are just people making up what they lack "Down stairs"
I used to own a '06 Type S stock which was like a slightly tamed 5 door version of this, one of the best cars I've ever had, drove it around Europe twice and never missed a beat (146K on the clock), it topped out at 135mph on the Autobahn. Truefully said that it prompts you to push it, always without even wanting to and whatever happens after 5K rpm makes you giggle. The only thing I wish it had was the sixth gear that could have eased the engine on long motorway runs. Mine was actually built in Swindon, miraculously well put together and I doubt cars made these days equal in quality, simplicity and provide such a sheer driving pleasure. If you love driving get one of these, forget the cd though ;)
I had one of these for 7 years. Fantastic cars for the money. Only thing is they are getting old now and they rot. Check behind the rear speakers if you are thinking of buying one as they go all around the rear arches where you cant see from the outside.

In my humble opinion the hot hatch or more recent generation of hyper hatches offer the best opportunity to have the perfect car, they simply tick all the boxes, practical, spacious, quick, cheap to run, easy to service, reasonable on fuel, and the good ones all seem to become classics so your long term depreciation is very low.

I'm the first one to own a Honda in my family, I live in Germany where Honda doesn't exist; seriously it feels like you see as many Hondas on the road as there are nice, untuned E46 left on the road. It's a 1997 Honda Civic Hatch that I got from a coworker for 510€ because my garbage 2007 Mercedes A-Class did not stop sucking my money, because I wasn't the owner (it was obviously my grandma) and also because well after putting 1100€ into the car last year and having the same problem again 1 year and 3 days after the first incident canceled the ownership gratefully. And interestingly enough this car's 10 years older that my old car, has two colors because it had a crash and is the absolute oppiside for me because I was used to sit high up in the air and had great trunk space for a rather small car. I love it; man this thing corners so well, has such a smooth gearbox, the comfiest seats I've ever sit in a sunroof that needs 2.5 seconds to be fully open (my old power windows needed 8 seconds) and everything works as it should. I'm owning it since January so it's not that long but I mean in the 2 1/2 years of owning the A-Class I had 4 troublefree weeks, this car's clean since for 5 month now. I might as well drive it until it needs a new MOT..

Had mine 13 years, can't let go. Check rear arches for rust and inner sills. Other than that can't really fault them, done about 70k miles in mine and not even so much as a speed awareness course.
Matt nice to see you joined us. I have a Sporty Blue FK8 and its the best car i have ever driven. Gearbox, handling, performance all wonderful. Enjoy the VTECH mate, there is no sound like it. Personally i like my FK8 styling, makes a nice change from square, grey and boring looking cars that are from a jelly mould. Anyway its all personal taste in the end.
Great little cars got my 03 plate totally standard and love it! That for the w end and the CRV for the week! Such fun and has been totally reliable as well for an 18 year old car! Going up in value to! 👍

I had a facelift ep3, it was only 9 months old when I got it. Did 45k miles in it and loved it. 15 yea later I Haven’t been able to find one to replace it as they all sent to be rotten.
Buy the 2.2 diesel type S, have it mapped, upgrade the shocks and a decent set of rubber, super diesel! It kills most things and you keep your licence. I have other things for that, great video.
I had a red Pug 205 1.9 GTI back in the late 90's when at university and this car very much reminds me of what I was like behind the wheel then. I don't think I ever drove it at leisurely speeds, but that's not what it was meant for tbf. I did end up selling it for parts after writing it off, but even then it was still worth a fair bit.
I've never been into cars, at all. Always motorbikes, Japanese motorbikes. Everything from 50cc all the way to 1000cc, road to race, all good fun. Then I got the chance to buy a 2003 EP3 for a very good price, I jumped and bought it. I drove it home, no more than 500m and that was it, the damn thing got under my skin. It's sat on my driveway waiting for my new polybush kit to arrival, and some steel to fix the sills. Yes, they are cars for ASBOs but it's quickly becoming a modern classic and people are finally starting to realise that. I'm stoked for that first dry day in February, I won't see another soul for a whole day 👌
I had a 55reg premier edition one. In my early 20's. Brilliant little cars, I'm glad I picked it over the Golf GTI ect. The only negatives for me was the woeful turning circle and the very numb steering. Other than that cracking cars
Please come back when it's done, wearing a fila trackie and an argos gold chain round your neck. Great review..you need your own show man, I'd defo watch it.

Had an Ep2 ( spit) , still great looking IMO. Only drove fn2 , freakin' amazing, even tho is heavier . For an fwd car they are legends . Many people hates them, they so easy to love...
Return the exhaust back to stock too because it’s spoiling the look of the rear. Fantastic cars I had one for 7 years and didn’t have one problem with it apart from eating front tyres

Had mine 13 years, can't let go. Check rear arches for rust and inner sills. Other than that can't really fault them, done about 70k miles in mine and not even so much as a speed awareness course.
Agreed. Just doing my inner sills now.
Sounds great!
@@HighPeakAutos She is a beauty and yes your right, its a license killer.😁
Great little cars got my 03 plate totally standard and love it! That for the w end and the CRV for the week! Such fun and has been totally reliable as well for an 18 year old car! Going up in value to! 👍
Aww I so can’t wait to get mines! Should have it in a few weeks and yeah they defo bring the bad side out in you. I took it back to the show room as I thought hmm I won’t be driving home if I’m pulled by the police 🤣never driven anything as responsive and as crazy as this which made me fall in love it it all the more!
I had an EP3 2002 in silver bought it off an elderly neighbour who had it from new I regret selling it as only had 68k on the clock amazing cars and if serviced well are bullet proof. Great video Matt 👍 altho I am late to the party
Should have got phase 2 premier in grey they alot of money now though!
My friend had a 1.6 type s i drove it to Liverpool from kent was great fun, i love the gearstick placement but not as a daily
🤣🤣 You crack me up, about the joke of modfied re-mapped Cars 🤣🤣🤣. Great content as always 👌
Your most amusing commentary to date! You could do a series: 'Fit the car to the social stereotype' 😁
Nice car...but even better is that music CD...Just love it. It makes the car!
Yes mate, this is going to be brilliant will enjoy this one
Yes finally a Civic on the channel! Looks in decent nick as well with a bit of fettling you could make it look one of the best out there.
I know what you mean by saying it can't be driven sensibly. I've never tried one of these, but drove several S2000's that are truly epic.
Please come back when it's done, wearing a fila trackie and an argos gold chain round your neck. Great review..you need your own show man, I'd defo watch it.
It’s a HONDA ! What do you expect. Engineering excellence, durability and great fun, vastly underrated my those who don’t know. I am completely with you on stock. Manufacturers spend millions designing and development then Wayne try’s to improve it.
The Power of Dreams
I think alot of us considered buying an EP3 in our early 20s, never bit the bullet though.
I think you’re right hahaha 🤣
I've got an ep3 had it for 3 years now, only done 73k miles, got it when I was 20 and was weirdly cheap for insurance.
I built these cars. If you want the holy grail try to get a Japanese version, they were insane and a touch more powerful than the UK version
My best friend had this new and I always wanted it. Now I'm 40 so it's impossible without being mocked by my wife, son and neighbors to death. I look forward to you treatment of this truly amazing car. Good luck mate
Loved the CD !
More tape than a crime scene! Class!
I live not far from where you film and garage is and i have to say your stereotypes are bang on :)
Had an Ep2 ( spit) , still great looking IMO.
Only drove fn2 , freakin' amazing, even tho is heavier . For an fwd car they are legends . Many people hates them, they so easy to love...
I like the FN2. I know it isnt as popular though but I dont really know what I'm talking about with hot hatches
The fn2 is a fine car and quicker on track than the ep3. Top gear has a lot to answer for for all the slagging off it received.
John Ennis have one and it’s brilliant 👍 served me very well
I got one new in 2003 and sold it 3 years later with only 9000 miles on the clock.Great car wish I had kept it now
Love your wit Matt!
Yikes the comments on the Vtec powerbandwagon !
Excuse me!
Honda’s VTec is superb 55000 rpm BANG!
Launch control!
Honda CR-V 2005 3 Rd gear 140kmh!
Really nice motor!
As a modified EP3 owner I have to say I think this my favourite video of yours 😂😂😂. Quality stuff. More of the same mate.
Need the exhausts a suspension set up and wider wheels. They are must mods haha
Return the exhaust back to stock too because it’s spoiling the look of the rear. Fantastic cars I had one for 7 years and didn’t have one problem with it apart from eating front tyres
I like the idea of taking it back to stock. Unfortunately when you sell it the next owner will probably re-modify it again. You can’t win.
MY older brother has had a fair few sporty cars, but he said once, pound fo rpound,m this Civic Type R was the most fun.
