I definitely agree with you on how Wuya's physical form was brought in and thrown out too fast and Rai turning to the side of evil. It should have been stretched out and made it its own thing because I would have loved to see Rai gone for a while and a Shen Gong Wu revealing itself only for Rai to show up again, even more powerful than before thanks to some magic from Wuya, to fight against his friends and after the loss of 3 Xiaolin Showdowns just to show that the Xiaolin Monks will never win another challenge, to put the nail in the coffin that it is over, the series does Omi's plan to go back in time to get a sealing box to stop Wu and te story will take it's course. One more thing... Jermaine was a lost of potential. Even though he was just a pawn by Chase, he did show strong talent, learning very skilled moves, so much so that Omi got jealous. I would have liked him to remain as Chase's apprentice for some time before going to the good side. Or he can be that character that comes in as a last resort.
Chronicles was such a huge let down to me, I adored the original as a kid. Like why make a continuation if it's not an exact continuation and you can't get the rights to use half of the shit from the original?
+MrEmpoleon2010 it's in the same vein as Powerpuff Girls 2016 where it doesn't introduce you to the world like as if it were a new show, but it also doesn't use continuity from the old show. leaving it in a limbo between reboot and continuation.
I hate xoilan chronicles I watch 3 episodes of it and it was bad am definitely stinking to watch xoilan showdown only never watch chronicles again horrible reboot
I thought one the funniest running gags was Omi screwing up common phrases and getting clowned for it. That was just his thing and I can't really think of anyone else in the show who made me laugh as hard as Omi.
Xiaolin Showdown was my shit as kid, it was the first story based series I grew up watching along with all the shows you listed. I couldn't get into the sequel since I grew up by the time it came out (it was in the making for YEARS)
Despite all the flaws I loved this show as a kid. I was mad when they never released season 2 and 3 on DVD but I'm happy to report both have become available.
Let me actually defend Guan for his massive collection. Traditional Chinese value their peaks so much that they cherish the mountain beneath them. In this case, Guan is proud of his progress to creating the spear and openly shows it off, demonstrating how dedicated he was to creating it because he is a monk. You misunderstand the reference, it's actually a really lighthearted chinese culture focused show, a lot of them were at the time and the cultural difference can easily be misunderstood by some. There is a notable divide between china and america, after all.
The purpose of time travel stories where they change something and realize they fucked everything up, so they have to go back and reverse the changes, is partially to teach a lesson on not holding regrets/lamenting the past, and partially to give the viewer anxiety over the show's entire universe. The viewer stresses over it, especially if the show is well written and the viewers is engrossed. The feelings of that stress and the relief when everything goes back to normal causes a lot of emotions, and makes people care even more about the story. Edit: as long as it's done right
I really want to make a huge movie trilogy out of this when or if I decide to become a movie director/producer. Don't worry... it won't be a bad adaptation like "The Last Airbender".
They never did use their elements outside of items and weapons. They left my man Jermaine out and didnt ever bring him back. They should have brought him back as the fifth member of the group with an element. But noo they make an Omi clone. That sucked. Shafting Jermaine, sucked. Time travel sucked. Chronicles sucked. It was soo loosely connected but tried to be a continuation it was a mess. But all in all Showdown was a good series. Can't wait for the live action adaptation.
early 2000's... when we finally exited the era of japanimation and suddenly everyone wanted to produce shows that are somehow oriented towards Asian culture.
Funny, I thought the seasons got better as they went on. I thought the lager arcs were great for characterization & drama whereas the early episodes of season 1 & 2 seemed more formulaic & basic. I loved the time-travel stuff with Omi. Yeah that staff thing annoyed me too, it does kinda ruin a good character. It's a damn shame the series never continued on properly but that finale was still pretty exciting regardless.
Coming from a fan of this show my only problem with xiaolin showdown is that the times where it does get dark, it feels like it gets cut short, the Ray turning evil bit from season 1 to 2 being the best example of that, they just trust him, again, after he basically destroyed the world and defeated all of them, he just gets to come back like nothing happened, I do love this show but I wish the times where it tried to be serious didn't feel like they had no clue how to fix shit after the stakes were raised so they just magical clued it back together.
I didn't even know chronicles happened and I feel like I'm much happier for it. The original show was a personal favorite of mine as a kid. Especially as a kid who didn't have full cable. Jack Spicer was a favorite among the family and my mom didn't mind the show. My best friend and I still think of it fondly and its been over 10 years.
Yeah it was bad. Like even the behind the scenes development of the show was bad. There apparently was some copyright issue somehow so they had to change a lot of things and just never explained it. Dojo went from a green dragon to a yellow dragon. All the Shen Gong Wu got renamed and even some of them had the powers of the Wu changed up. The show pretty much ignored all character and plot development from the previous show. Ping Pong was all of Omi's annoying traits amplified. And the one that grinned my gears the worst. You know how in the original show Dojo had this attachment/infatuation with Master Fung like a very loyal pet? That got turned up to 11 in Chronicles to an annoying and creepy vibe. Fung vanished at the beginning of the first episode for whatever bull reason they came up with so that leaves Dojo crying constantly at the mention of Fung and holding tightly to a Fung doll he has and treating that doll like Fun giving it baths and constantly talking to it.
Maybe the most underrated cartoon of my child. Like, bro, the animation and writing still hold up to this day. I think it was actually ahead of its time. If it came out today it would be as popular as Steven Universe or Gravity Falls. And the reboot was trash that I hate with almost all of my heart.
Chronicles is definitely a reboot with horrid references to the original that, instead of being references as a wink to the audience, they're references as if those exact events happened. Which clashes with chronicles story constantly. Like wtf? I've never seen another series fail to reference something so badly.
This is my first time watching you and the first impressions here are great. I like your tone, you're not hyper or loud, and it helps set the pace of the video. I feel like I can just relax and watch you without having to turn my brain just to keep up. Looking forward to more content. Keep up the great work.
Looked for something like this a few weeks ago - now found this all of a sudden > shows how some channels get more from the searches than others... Nice video
Thank you for pointing out most of the problems with this series, other than it being a mash up of Jack Chan Adventures, Avatar, and Teen Titans, or that the Shen Gong Wu start becoming too silly in name and use.
This is my first time watching your content, and yeah... I think I’ll be subscribing. Great review of a pretty underrated cartoon. My favorite character was always Chase Young and I think his introduction episode was the best in the series. I stopped watching the show towards the end, and you certainly would’ve dissuaded me from checking out what I missed, but... I gotta see Raymundo solo all the villains.
This is one of my favorite shows on Kids Wb along with Teen Titans. Chase, Kimiko, Raimundo, and Jack were my favorite characters. I think that Xiaolin Showdown should get the sequel it deserves with Omi, Kimiko, Raimundo, and Clay train their own apprentices along with Chase getting his own and maybe Jack getting a sidekick also Teen Titans should get a final season.
I need to rewatch the series again, my cousin and I always watched when I would go to his house after school. Raimundo was always my favorite main and Jack and Chase are my favorite villains. I tried xiaolin chronicles.. never again lol
ACTUALLY, Raimundo was the most popular character in Brazil, mainly because he was really well played as a Brazilian. We actually have a lot of really white people. Like Polish white. Since his english is very good, I think Raimundo is probably a really wealthy kid, a playboy as we call it here.
Thankfully Chronicles isnt a canon sequel. There's no way it could be anyway. First episode alone fucks up any continuity. Its weird, cause Christy was head still, you'd think she'd just continue where it og left off. But instead we get an alternate universe reboot. I'm not sure what her goal was with Chronicles but i hope if she does get back to Xiaolin, its a proper return to form.
This is one of those shows that I'd occasionally catch on TV but I'd never remember the name... I don't think I've ever even watched a full episode, but I remember it being kinda fun... Also 0:24 at least we *had* action cartoons in the 2000s...
A fix for the multiple spears without even having to change the animation: Just make it so he made them while he lost the spear, but have it so he thought that one spear was special and that he couldn't truely replicate its "true power" then once he realizes it's him and not the weapon he's fine using the others, it still leaves the omi gift being a little hollow but at least it makes the betrayal make more sense in that case, plus it also kinda adds a layer to how desperate he was to get it, showing that he had actual mental trauma from losing it to a severe extent. Just my take though
Hannibal Bean was the best character ever. In that he was so awful that he became a marvel. Like condensing shit to the point that you wind up with some kind of a lustrous, brown gemstone. The way that he was always talking about doing some form of nondescript evil, in the service of nothing other than this rather tame idea of evil was just utterly fantastic. Why this ancient entity had a southern drawl was anyone's guess but me and my brother used to have a lot of fun adding things to his sentences because of it. Like one time I remember he told Raymundo "Don't you sass off to me, boy" and I added "I yam thuh devul!" To which he added "I _will_ shoot chu, I will shoot you right naow, boi." Good times.
Everyone in the comments talking about how Wuya was a milf and gave them some fetishes later down the line... Chase Young was the first edgy character I really liked. One of my first "husbandos", if you will. Not that there was much to husbando back then, but I'd write fanfics about him with my god awful self insert character and think about him when I laid in bed at night. I fucking loved this show and everything about it back in the day and I'm happy that, despite the flaws I see in it now, it still holds up relatively well.
Ah this show. I REALLY misjudged it when it first came out. I remember my brother was really into it and would always try to get me to watch it but being the somewhat shallow kid I was, I didn't bother because I got so annoyed with how they kept using the word "evil" so much. But after awhile, I decided to sit down and give the show a proper try and holy crap, I was in love with it. The show really did have everything to keep a 10 year old hooked from the action to the banther between the characters. It was just great and I felt like a jackass for unfairly judging it. But I will say I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed with certain things about the show, mainly with how Wuya was treated after season 1. Wuya had such a bone-chilling entrance when she got her human body back and was quite the force to be reckoned with and to see her be resorted to a lame lackey who had to play kiss ass to Chase Young was painful to watch. I mean, Chase Young was cool but Wuya deserved better than that. Also agree that Hannibal Bean was kind of a useless character. He really brought nothing outside of tricking Chase Young into becoming evil and we could've gotten Wuya to do that so.... Yeah, pointless character. And oh my god yes! I hated how the characters would shout out their element but then nothing happened. You were expecting them to use element-based powers and we got none of that (excluding the Shen Gong Wu items). But despite the few problems the show had, I would argue that it really was one of the best 00s cartoons to have ever come out. But unfortunately when the show came back 10 years later, it was an absolute travesty to the original and I too was annoyed how instead of getting Jerome as an official Xiaolin monk, we got an annoying Omi clone. Totally lame. And the show was not memorable at all, just a total waste and proved the show should've not come back. Despite the ultimate fail the continuation was, the original show will always be great and a good example of a great 00s cartoon. :)
Was the show always been in HD? I mean where did you get this beautiful B Footage?? I gave away both my "Sword Of The Storm" & "Golden Tiger Claws" with Packaging to Goodwill when I was cleaning my house. : (
Fave Shen-Gon-Wu: Eye of Dashi ( it fires LIGHTNING!) Sword of the Storm (you can’t use it to cut people. But who needs cutting power when you can summon hurricanes and tornadoes!) Tongue of Saiping (you can talk to animals) Star Hanabi (Shoot fire and throw it as a flaming shuriken) What are your faves?
Looking back this show is just as well produced as I remember it. Usually with shows of my generation I start to see the evident animation flaws more and more now that I actually am an animator and know what to look for. But Xiaolin Showdown impresses me with a lot of hand drawn frames with full inbetweens, well choreographed fight scenes and, as you mentioned, lots of diverse and creative locations.

Homeslice Heroes I thought it was a reboot
+MrEmpoleon2010 it's in the same vein as Powerpuff Girls 2016 where it doesn't introduce you to the world like as if it were a new show, but it also doesn't use continuity from the old show.
leaving it in a limbo between reboot and continuation.
I hate xoilan chronicles I watch 3 episodes of it and it was bad am definitely stinking to watch xoilan showdown only never watch chronicles again horrible reboot
When 2020s come get ready to see 2000s kids
@Wobo I wouldn't say that I think us 2000s kids will be less mean
@Wobo I mean there are nice 90s kids but most are horrible. But hey am a nice 2000s kid.
@Jack Blackthorn who joke?
In my opinion the 2000s were great but they were created underrated cartoons
Extremely underrated
Better the 90's cartoons, please @ me
2000s cartoons >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 90s cartoons
Some 90s kids act like 2000s kids can't have nostlgia
I think that's somewhat fair. I say "somewhat" because cartoons like Teen Titans & Danny Phantom got a ton of praise back in their heyday lol.
For a video about Xiaolin Showdown,
You literally mentioned every show I watched as a kid ._.
I thought one the funniest running gags was Omi screwing up common phrases and getting clowned for it. That was just his thing and I can't really think of anyone else in the show who made me laugh as hard as Omi.
Anytime Xiaolin showdown shows up in my recommendation page I know shit about to happen. Best show ever
Xiaolin Showdown was my shit as kid, it was the first story based series I grew up watching along with all the shows you listed. I couldn't get into the sequel since I grew up by the time it came out (it was in the making for YEARS)
That yellow guy is definitely the voice of Ben 10 trying way too hard to put on an Asian accent 😂
The fake accent fits because it's funny
Despite all the flaws I loved this show as a kid. I was mad when they never released season 2 and 3 on DVD but I'm happy to report both have become available.
I used to be waiting for a new episode of this show to be uploaded to this one website for months until I realized it ended in 2006 I was so sad man
Let me actually defend Guan for his massive collection.
He still sold out his friends just because he's missing one of 300+.
The Xiaolin Showdowns gave me goosebumps when both characters said "Let's go Xiaolin showdown." I definitely loved this show when it was on.
Don't worry... it won't be a bad adaptation like "The Last Airbender".
better be animated then
Raimundo was the best choice for leader
He really shined through in the future timeline and in the alternate timeline
I never really watched the show when it was on YTV back in the day, but I always had some semblance of respect for it.
I would KILL for a live action adaptation.
When I saw that Guan had like hundreds of spears I was furious, such a big plot hole...
early 2000's... when we finally exited the era of japanimation and suddenly everyone wanted to produce shows that are somehow oriented towards Asian culture.
OMG Im so glad people still talk about this show it makes me so nostalgic
Moonlight150 Yuck. sounds like a lot of cringe. how disappointing for kids who were excited for it.
It was a good one as a kid, but I guess it was finally time to put that Xiaolin show down.
Clay wasn't stupid. He was shown to be one of the smartest characters in the show.
The 2000s cartoons are underrated. I love the 90s cartoons but the 2000s were great.
This is my first time watching you and the first impressions here are great. I like your tone, you're not hyper or loud, and it helps set the pace of the video. I feel like I can just relax and watch you without having to turn my brain just to keep up. Looking forward to more content. Keep up the great work.
How can you miss that dojo is based off of mushu, also dojos middle name is woman
I never realized that it was childhood gambling! 😂
Wait so olmi isn't krillin
You sure you didn't confuse him for Yamcha. At least Krillin has a hot blonde wife and actually participated in the tournament of power.
@@brandonlyon730 damn
@@brandonlyon730 Yamcha isn't a coward.
Looked for something like this a few weeks ago - now found this all of a sudden > shows how some channels get more from the searches than others...
Nice video
roflmao. I literally didn't even notice that Omi was yellow right until you mentioned it. That's actually hillarious.
Thinking about how hype Xiaolin Showdown was, makes me think about how much I miss action cartoons.
Thank you for pointing out most of the problems with this series, other than it being a mash up of Jack Chan Adventures, Avatar, and Teen Titans, or that the Shen Gong Wu start becoming too silly in name and use.
I'm 30 years old now and I just re-watched this show 3 months ago and I still love it despite it's flaws
Best thing of the 2000's...Shrek 2
This is my first time watching your content, and yeah... I think I’ll be subscribing. Great review of a pretty underrated cartoon. My favorite character was always Chase Young and I think his introduction episode was the best in the series. I stopped watching the show towards the end, and you certainly would’ve dissuaded me from checking out what I missed, but... I gotta see Raymundo solo all the villains.
I love Jack Spicer and Chase so much 😭 lmfao glad I never bothered with chronicles.
Bro that slowed down Johnny test theme sounded really good besides the vocals.
Xiaolin Showdown is just one of those shows you just *have* to come back to from time to time.
"You know a series is out of ideas when they make half baked time travel stories."
Oh, hi Endgame!
can you make a 'Chop Socky Chooks' video? i feel like no one remember this show
Digital Pain That sounds familiar...
yea. it was on for a smallish period of time. all about Kung fu. google it bro
That was a weird show.
vistagunner oh yeah it was those chickens fighting that wasabi dude
Mid-2000s CN was triply dude...
Yeah
This was one of the best reviews of the series I've ever seen. I really miss this show. It was my absolute favorite on the channel.
We used to play Xiaolin Showdown at recess
This is one of my favorite shows on Kids Wb along with Teen Titans. Chase, Kimiko, Raimundo, and Jack were my favorite characters. I think that Xiaolin Showdown should get the sequel it deserves with Omi, Kimiko, Raimundo, and Clay train their own apprentices along with Chase getting his own and maybe Jack getting a sidekick also Teen Titans should get a final season.
I will never forget Jack Spicer. He was a comedic treasure.
Dude I already loved your stuff, but then I see a Rev X reference too?? Hell yeah! Nothing better than that.
I need to rewatch the series again, my cousin and I always watched when I would go to his house after school. Raimundo was always my favorite main and Jack and Chase are my favorite villains. I tried xiaolin chronicles.. never again lol
My favorite memory with this show was making the shen gong wu out of crayons and paper and having showdowns with my cousins. Good times.
My favorite show as a kid, and Jack was my favorite character. I thought he was great.
ACTUALLY, Raimundo was the most popular character in Brazil, mainly because he was really well played as a Brazilian. We actually have a lot of really white people. Like Polish white.
Since his english is very good, I think Raimundo is probably a really wealthy kid, a playboy as we call it here.
I can't believe omi didn't cause more problems he is fucking literally YELLOW
Well he does share the same voice actor as Clay the Texan, so I guess that explains the southern accent.
I ilke hannable bean he an ok villain
I can’t see that redhead. He definitely influenced Tom in SVTFOE and I can’t unsee it
Wuya was my crush.
I mean dude, she'd woo-yah
Now look here. You take this pun home, and you burn it.
Mr. NAZOcomics i challenge you to gongeetempai
Another great 2000's toon from my high school days! Enjoyed the heck outta this one!
Great review, Mars! :)
Was the show always been in HD? I mean where did you get this beautiful B Footage?? I gave away both my "Sword Of The Storm" & "Golden Tiger Claws" with Packaging to Goodwill when I was cleaning my house. : (
I have the same question
Grey Delisle. Serving as the voice of every angry teen cartoon girl in the 2000s.
Chase Young was my first crush as a kid and Wuya made me realize I'm bi
God, I loved this show
Fave Shen-Gon-Wu:
Eye of Dashi ( it fires LIGHTNING!)
Sword of the Storm (you can’t use it to cut people. But who needs cutting power when you can summon hurricanes and tornadoes!)
Tongue of Saiping (you can talk to animals)
Star Hanabi (Shoot fire and throw it as a flaming shuriken)
What are your faves?
0:00 disappointed thought we was going to hear what Ja rule had to say about xiolin showdown
I hate your pfp
I tried blowing the line off
;w;
