One of my favorite stories from my school years. It’s been years since I graduated but this one stuck to me. Kindness can go a long way, especially in 1950’s Harlem, NY.
Some of the simplest things is all we need: a warm bowl of dinner, a strong role model, a little bit of trust, a clean face and some new shoes and a bit of forgiveness and the trust that comes with it. This story is about empathy. Miss Louella Bates Washington-Jones saved a soul.
Everyone keeps commenting that they read this in 7th,8th or even 9th grade. The first time I read this was in the 4th grade.. idk if that’s weird or not I just wanted to point that out lol
Wonderful narration. Very emotive and really communicated the feelings in the story well. Takes you right there and you can feel the story from both characters' sides.
Y'all this story IS short. I got it for school too but it doesn't mean you cant enjoy it if it's an assignment. I liked this very much and it has a nice meaning.
Wonderful. Thanks a lot for sharing! This is one of the most valuable stories I know. For all friends who want to think more about mercy, compassion and justice, I highly recommend Bryan Stevenson's excelent book" Just Mercy. A Story of Justice and Redemption". He is an Afro- American lawyer based in Alabama. Desmond Tutu calls him "The Mandela of America". You can also watch his TED Talk " We need to talk about injustice". It is the speech that received the longest standing ovations in TED's history.
