- Castlevania, also know as Devil's Castle Dracula Apocalypse in Japan, was met with some controversy during it's transition to 3d. However, this underrated gem is an excellent game with an equally excellent score composed by Masahiko Kimura, Motoaki Furukawa, and Mariko Egawa.

haters gonna hate. This game was awesome
oh yes
let the haters BURN like the monsters that they are, this is a great -Castlevania & very underrated
damn stright and im looking stright at you james rolfe a.k.a avgn and his friend mike metai for dissing castlevania 64 and of course arin hanson and danny avadan from game grumps
yeah mike can go & fucking drop death for all I care, they are the ones missing such great game & they prefer worship others truly shitty games, I don't hate on james now, I know he is huge -Castlevania lover at heart, he only said that he did not like the game cos of stupid camera angles, also we all know that james is not the best 3d-mentional games . it like my self I hated him at first for ranting on my beloved -Castlevania 2 simon's Quest, but then truly naver did really hate the mighty game, he only like to make fun of it's flaws, yet again what game does not has flaws ? btw I think that you are one of subscribers right ? or you where ?
DRAGOTH BELMONT that's true and if your talking about that im one of the subcribers of james rolfe a.k.a avgn youtube channel then yes i am one of james rolfe a.k.a avgn subcribers on his youtube channel
"Courage, don't leave me"
Midis Malungahu I remember that. I always thought that was such an honorable thing to say. most protagonists are overconfident heros, but he legitamantly is scared about the trials ahead of him and what he might face. His ability to be scared but overcoming it to save the world was so cool.
This just gave me PTSD and a renewed sense of hope at the same time
Hahahah thank you..... That quote has very special meaning to me...... Love it
"Who's courage?" I always wondered as a kid
I was a dumbass 😂
To me, this game will always have a place close to my heart. I can honestly say that I feel as though this game's soundtrack has some of the "scariest" music. Every track just captures the mood and setting of the game so perfectly, it never ceases to really make you feel uncomfortable. It's very beautiful.
+PK Shenji i couldnt agree with you more ^_^
+Ivan orozco same for me :)
+PK Shenji Agreed. Massively underrated this.
Man I love this game, will always be special to me...R.I.P. Konami.
I want a remake, Konami has an opportunity with his serie in Netflix.
This Is my first Castlevania and i love it! Dammit!
same here
Same.
I'd love to see a modern-day remake of this game.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Yessss hell yessss!!! Want it so bad!!!
yes, and at the same time NO, most companies want profit nowadays, and they will just not sacrifice budget over surpassing a gem like this one, you either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain
fuck yeah, it would be awesome
No way, modern companies could never pull it off. They'd come in and try to f*** with the formula too much, make some flashy thing that looks like everything else on the market just trying to make a buck.
Or worse yet, They'd turn it into some shoujo nightmare like they were trying to do with the later Castlevania games...
Time stamps. Since i love this game and its soundtrack, like all Castlevanias...
00:00 Intro (reused in Circle of the Moon)
00:27 Bloodines (Richter's theme) Malus/violin version (secin Intro)
01:45 Setting (menu screen)
02:57 Prologue
04:01 Shudder
05:08 Intrusion, THIS IS CASTLEVANIA ! There exist a second version for Dracula's encounter
05:56 Watchtower, so smooth music
07:54 Annex - Silent Madness, legendary level !
10:42 Hamlet People
11:46 Rose, legendary scene
12:58 Maze Garden, dat freaking gardener !
14:35 Mysterious Coffin, YAY ! Bloody Tears !
15:29 First Struggle, so good but so short
16:34 Underground Waterway
19:20 Underground Tunnel - Invisible Sorrow OMG why they didn't re-use it in another game ?
24:20 Lamented Rose, so beautiful...
25:06 Dungeon - Main Theme, nitro someone ?
27:54 Malus Reappears. There are actually several versions of this song in the game, for encounters where is it played.
29:12 Actrise. Did a supporting villain in any Castlevania has a so frightening theme ?
30:09 Sypha (this is indeed not Sypha, but Carrie Fernandez is actually a descendant of Belnades clan)
30:58 Planetarium, so lovely
31:41 Unexpected Encounter
32:28 Duel Tower
34:46 Tower of Science, same as First struggle : so good, but so short...
37:27 Tower of Execution
39:51 Tower of Sorcery, another legendary level.
42:03 Second Struggle (actually : Dance in Phantasmatic Hell from Rondo of Blood)
43:21 Toothed Wheel
45:22 Stairway to the Clouds, short music for short location, but... wow.46:41 Third Struggle - Dance of Illusions, less pumping than RoB / SotN versions, but first time we fight Dracula in 3D !
48:18 Moment of Silence (used between Dracula's fight and bad ending)
49:13 Castle Escape
49:58 Fourth Struggle - Concert of Another Dimension, while music isn't that good, it is probably one of the hardest series' final boss !
51:37 Carrie's Good Ending... so sad, yet it has a glimpse of smile.
53:29 Bad Ending, a good music whatever the ending is the bad one.
55:20 Schneider's Good Ending, so hearthul.
58:05 Credits, the main theme in enhanced version is a so great track !
1:02:27 Melodies of Castlevania (Bonus Track) : First part is just awesome ! A "sad symphonic" version of the main theme ! Its structure is used in Castlevania Judgement (mixed with Malus reappears and a very short portion of Toothed Wheel) for Cornell's theme.1:04:18 Second part of Melodies of Castlevania, this sounds a "joyful" version of Bad Ending.
1:06:06 Invisible Sorrow (Bonus Track) , wtf dancing remix though Invisible Sorrow is hardly if not recognizable.
1:10:58 A Night of Peace and Quiet (Bonus Track)
Underground tunnel with reinardht is my favorite music 😍
Thank you
Duel Tower is my favorite music.

every 3D castlevania game I played after this never really captured a atmosphere like this one.
It felt like a survival horror game. It was scary, beautiful and mysterious at the same time, which I think 3D castlevania games should aim for. Dracula and vampires are supposed to be creepy, not like that twilight bs stuff that lords of shadows pulled tried to pull off.
Agreed. This game has a special place in my heart for reasons you just explained. However, Lament of Innocence was not bad. I think anything after that was just not up to par.
it was garbage, lol
yes..Atmosphere amazing...Its because is ona survivor game. This is really a amazing game..no matter what they say..
Nothing says atmosphere like an n64 game
Of course, definitely. All the Igarashi dick riders say otherwise but that's simply because they know Metroidvania and nothing more. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with Metroidvanias that is.
This soundtrack takes me back. Silent madness is sublime. 🖤
silent madness 24/7. it's my theme till i die. perhaps even after...
This game is SO AWESOME, I love everything of this game!
love you too for saying that man, also epic Reinhardt profile :)
DRAGOTH BELMONT you're the first to notice that. :p
of course man, I grew up with CV 64 , same way I did with all the NES master piece classics. Reinhardt is one of my dearest Belmont of all times :) you might want to check the tribute series I doing to him on games like Bloodborne & Dark souls 3
Underground Tunnel-Invisible Sorrow never gets old. My favorite track by far.
pffff so dark and unsettling
It's the first time that i heard "Invisible sorrow" and it's nothing but PURE FUCKING GOLD.
One of the first games I ever finished on N64. The mansion was the best but....that hedge maze :O
That part was freaking terrifying and stressful!
I still have no clue where I was supposed to go at that part.
The maze gave me nightmares as a kid 🤣🤣 but that dang nitro glicerine at Castle center !! FML!??
@@MrUrgay7 it was always the dogs that scared me most. I used holy water mainly so I could melt them fast. Axes were way more fun and knives more efficient, but darn i needed to just go die in a holy fire lmao
When konami really made games.... one of my favorites from n64
"Whatever awaits, I have no regrets." - Carrie Fernandez
surprisingly i played Legacy of Darkness before 64... i bought 64 for the first time back in 2008 and immediately saw the differences
still had fun and i still have the cartridge now
This game was an underrated Masterpiece! When I first played it with 9 years, I only played the first three levels for 1000 times but always till the Maze Garden and then restarted, because the Zombie Gardener was too fucking scary for me xD With 12 years I finally reached the 4th level :P
AllAboutMusic i was scared of him too and the dogs lol but i still play it on my computer and i just constantly attack him since he dont scare me anymore
Yes, I had to keep replaying because I didn't have a memory card and I kept getting to the maze before I finally had to turn it off for the night and start over again the next day lol.
Same 😂 cos we never had a save pack
while i wouldnt call it a masterpiece its not a terrible game like people say. yes the camera is wonky, yes the jumping is a bit stiff but when people tell me its a terrible game i say "no its a good game with a few flaws what game doesnt have flaws".
“Whatever awaits, I have no regrets!”
Best 3d castlevania ever made, one of my favs of the series.
One of the best Castlevania games ever!
this game is so nostalgic
silent madness plays forever in my mind 🖤🖤 this track is eternal

I had found this soundtrack at my local retailer way back in the 90s and had no idea it was related to an N64 game, but I fell in love with the music immediately. Never had the opportunity to play the game
This and Legacy are very underrated. It was bashed whitout any good reason. Sure maybe the camera angle was a big problem, but other than that is a great game with a great replay value.
Blue Thunder73 I agree...my favorite is still Curse of Darkness
CV64&LOD are defiantly my favorite CV games to. They are a bit clunky these days, but they have atmosphere that is unmatched by the other games. I think SOTN comes close, but not quite.
One of my very first game I've ever played on the 64 an it's amazing
This makes me feel something deep inside that I can't describe.
This game used to terrify me. The music played a huge role, but the imagery did too. I was raised Roman Catholic with an Orthodox paternal family and this game felt like a Christian's nightmare. It felt, and still does when I play it, like I'm roleplaying as a warrior against Hell. One's background can really have an effect on how one feels when encountering the overall atmosphere. Unadulterated work of art on so many levels but the music is really what did it. Thank you for posting this.
Everybody bitches about the camera but I actually thought that was one of the best parts of the game. Added to the difficulty. 👍🏼
This is one of the reasons why I love Castlevania 64, play it at least for the soundtrack
One of the biggest parts of my childhood. I love this game so much and the music is so nostalgic
Every time I listen to this I want to play again.
This game is such a masterpiece
I absolutely loved this game as a kid! I was only ever able to beat this game as Carrie though. Reinhardt was way too sluggish for me.
XNinja2017 Reinhardt was considered the hard mode... he was stronger but slower and too big which made it difficult also with his short ranged attacks compared to Carrie's long range attack
I felt the complete opposite at times. I was like yelling at Carrie's bolt that just flew where it wanted lol. But Reinhardt did have some tedious movements.
I beat it several times with both characters. You have to side step a TON with him.
I love this game
My sisters and I used to take turns playing this when we were young along with Ocarina of Time. What a cool time for music in gaming, and this game is so underrated.
I never was able to finish it, but wasted hours and hours trying to. I saved in a bad place with my health right before the final big battle and never had enough health potions, so I gave up after trying SO many times I can't even count. It was super frustrating, but completely my fault.
But the music... ugh the music is brilliant and eerie, and I wish people could get over the silly things and actually play with the story.
Time to get an n64 emulator.
This was my favorite Castlevania game
Whatever awaits, I have no regrets!
This might not be the best Castlevania game but it's one of the best 3D Castlevania games.
and one of the best castlevania soudtracks of all time NUFF SAID!!!
De lo mejor para jugar de noche
Very goog sound quallity because is MIDI mixed with compressed acoustic percusions sound. Ans ambient song of this game is the best...Peple talking bad is crazy and not undrstande about art.
Tower of Sorcery was always my favorite soundtrack though it does sound like it came out of Final Fantasy 7
The quality of the game is open for endless debate - I personally thought it was a fine game with great bosses. But the soundtrack is among the best for ANY Castlevania game. The opening in particular is just iconic.
If people think this game is "low quality" because of a (typical for the time) janky camera with tight platforming, or for a (typical for the era) punishing instant-death section mid way through the game, they really shouldn't think much of SotN.
SotN, the game that has a whole second half of blatant padding that wasn't designed to be used the way it was (flipped upside down), with balancing that is broken wide open within the first hour of gameplay and a copy/paste level design full of empty hallways and damage sponge stat grinders.
(Love both games but people trash the 64 for very little whilst totally smoothing over SotN's frankly hilarious issues)
Loved these two games for N64. So much mood and atmosphere.
Intrusion 🤩 is the best representation of Castlevania´s Essence in that OST.
To me this is the best Castlevania game counting legacy of darkness.
The final song, A night of peace and quiet I think describes this game. It's not triumphant but rather a very solemn, introspective, and internal song. It's not the usual cv song one would expect but I think that, much like the game itself, shines in a very unique light. It still respects the past while still trying to forge a new path and while the bumps I feel are grossly exaggerated, this is still castlevania at the end of the day.
Personal I feel this soundtrack is better for easy listening when getting work done than SOTN. I love this soundtrack and most of the tracks are based on creating atmosphere. I think SOTN has amazing tracks and probably more all together but it has such a varied musical style throughout that it is harder to listen to from beginning to end if you are writing a paper or something.
Personally though I feel like Super castlevania 4 is my personal favorite soundtrack because it was the first castlevania game I beat and the music blew me away! :)
Still can't believe how authentic that violin sounds in the Introduction track - definitely one of the best OSTs on the 64.
thank you for uploading this. this game along with legacy of darkness are HIGHLY underrated and don't get enough credit. i also love how dark, haunting, eerie, and spooky this soundtrack is giving it more of a horror kinda vibe. and yes i do own BOTH N64 castlevanias. both are excellent games in my opinion.
My favourite game of all time and fave soundtrack ever 😍❤️
One of my favorite games ever
This is still my favorite Castlevania. It had mood and atmosphere, especially the music. Although it was clunkily executed, it did have a 4 part story and all the characters are likable with clear motive and story arcs. For the generation it went above and beyond other 3D platformers in terms of storytelling (Visual and audio). It has a special place in my heart and I always yearned for more lore on Carrie and Schneider (and Rosa).
Badass. I loved this game.
I absolutely love this game , thank you for this
silent madness and underground tunnel invisible sorrow, and maybe the nitro cell theme too lol.
I have so many good memories of this game... I remember watching my Father in his own playthrough with Reinhardt (on Hard I believe), he made it to the Reaper boss near the end and then he didnt have more time (went to Metroid Prime later). Also remember watching my Aunt's playtrough with Carrie (she beat the game even before me). Ah... good, much simpler times. The soundtrack is amazing as well.
This game had a huge impression on me as a kid. It inspired a lot of fantasy and fun in my childhood. Glad I got to experience it... (even if I did have to use a gameshark to get past the maze for a while)
I love the rendition of Divine Bloodlines and Dance of Illusions in this video game.
I used to play this without a memory card, when I reacjed the villa my sight was already worn out, then the music.. I used to fall asleep at that point
The ending music when the castle is falling apart is awesome
I don't understand why this game was hated on. It is a personal favorite of mine! I highly doubt it, but I hope Nintendo will put it on the Switch one of these days.
I remember when play this game i dony have the controller pack, and end the game always all in one day, great game
EspacioGamer Zero this was me and my brother, also getting halfway through the game and having to start again in harder difficulty
The Introduction and A Night of Peace and Quiet are ones of my favorite pieces of this game
El primer Castlevania que jugué fue en la versión de Nintendo 64 🖤
El mejor Castlevania , los jugue todos y este es el mejor
Best CV games in terms of atmosphere by far (Including Legacy of course). And cinematic appeal as well. I also loved the vampire depiction, from the mystery of Rosa and Malus to the bestial nature of the lessers, and others like Gilles de Rais and so on. They each have a class and a nature to them that sort of covers the levels of "thirst" in some vampire depictions, where the more deprived of blood they are the more animalistic they look and act - and the higher level ones were pretty unique, like Rosa being good, and the Malus reveal just showing Drac's sort of bored/curious nature, and so on.
I also don't mind clunkiness if it's done right (which...this game wasn't perfect but a remade one could be). Thing with a _certain_ clunkiness like Monster Hunter and/or Dark Souls is that encounters tend to be more rewarding, because you have to treat them with a lot more care - I don't mind the hack-n-slash alternative but it does get a bit repetitive after a while when some button mashes clears room after room without much emphasis on timing and positioning and things like that, and I don't know, I'm just kind of over it.
I don't even recall the camera bothering me as much as others seemed to be affected by it. The only issues I had with the game was how damn hard the Nitro section was, and how stupid the Motorcycle Skeleton was as an enemy design (literally the design, it's just stupid). Other than that I wish the series would return to this level of atmosphere and cinematography. And no, the Lords of Shadow duology(ish) pacing and dialogue was just... I don't know, maybe just me but it felt like adolescence trying very hard to be serious, so they were both pretty cringy games for me unfortunately, and the combat again, just wasn't fun to me after a while. I think the only game with hack-n-slash combat that really impressed me was Darksiders 2 (I haven't played 3 yet), because dodge timing and the like was absolutely paramount in it, especially for the challenge fights - and one other game is, surprisingly, Kingdom Hearts, especially 2 (haven't played the followups). The rest, from most of the DMC games to GoW, were just too button spammy for me outside of the bosses to maintain fun for long. The Lords of Shadows games looked fantastic though and did have some good cinematography.
Great music, good atmosphere .. it really fits
this is a game i never got around to completing.. i really need to do this
The very first game I ever played, and it will always hold a special place in my heart
Fascinante...invaluable y nostálgico....
I bought the cd was huge fan and in love with mallus and rosa
epic, great underrated -Castlevania game, courage will never leave the mighty Reinhardt Belmont, anyway you all might like to check my Reinhardt Schneider homage series I doing on Dark souls 3 my channel is all about -Castlevania theme
omg that darn clock tower my peeps... So good but so difficult.
One of the best games i played with my brother on N64
Very nice .....thank you
Love the Tower of Science music. Happy Halloween!
Thanks !!
Liked and subscribed
First Struggle(15:29) is a amazing music. makes me feel scared and adrenaline at the same time!
Exijo un remake
I love this game!
I bought this game on it's release and while it was atmospheric and fun in places, the controls, camera and certain gameplay elements really detracted from how good it could have been.
Childhood game, I wish could play it again
My favorite track in this game is without a doubt "the sinkin old sanctuary"
I played this when I was 6-7 year old, as long as the Star Wars game where you had to set free the snow monsters, always scared me.
I remember when I first encountered the huge Skeleton Gorilla.
That setting songs ! Hits hard
It's up there with Goldeneye's setting song.
This game is soo good, on the first hand the story and the sound were mysterious and very emotionally, on the other hand the playability was good enough in that time for a 3D transition game. Playing this was like playing a different kind of Castlevania 3, so rustic but gooood. To me, this game had better story and was more funny than Lament of Innocence.
I love castlevania ♥
It was one of my favorite n64 games and I didn’t know about legacy of darkness till literally yesterday.
Though this game has flaws, one thing that shines through Castlevania 64 and legacy of darkness is tone. Both games have this creepier haunting feeling, that always makes you feel on edge. From the grim lighting to the music and even the jump scares they throw at you in this game. That's something that not even the Lords of Shadow series could even bring in both it's games. Clunky controls aside in these two Castlevania games, Konami really had something going here. They just didn't have enough time to refine it.
They need to release an HD Remaster where this and Legacy are combined. Take the best of both and combine it.
If budget allows ad what was cut due to hardware limitations.
the music in this game sounds like a cross between majora's mask and goldeneye 64

Cool!
Literally fourth struggle is from another dimension, haven't heard anything similar, I think video game composers in general are under rated, lately some of then have gained some recognition (Marty o´donell, Mick gordon)
can't argue with that
I need this CD... OMG!!!
Classic💯
À masterpiece soundtrack for a masterpiece game ❤️
For mi this game is a 10/10!
BELLEZA DE MÚSICA!! 💯
the soundtrack is so good it should be better known
Catch me at the maze garden son lmao I stay stuck on that part
Awesome game and amazing OST!!
A Night of Peace and Quiet is best ~!❤
Man that main menu theme is so good. (After the Intro) Then the credits serving as a sort of redux edition of it . 1:46 and 58:06
