I will keep all of my EF L lenses. I like the rendering better, more natural, don't know how to express it. The sharpness of the new lenses is impressive but they do feel a bit clinical. Once they stop producing EF L lenses, you will be glad to have some in your arsenal ! .
Clinical? The RF rendering is indistinguishable to the EF's...the only differentces one might find is that the RF is sharper wide open, better corner sharpness, focuses faster, focuses more accurately, and handles aberrations better. All the RF lenses are better than their EF counterparts...I have both...
I’ve loved this lens for years. Recently I rented an EOS R and the RF 50/1.2L for a long vacation in Europe, and while the newer lens was objectively better in every measurable way (except size and weight), I just preferred the character of the old one. It is probably my favorite lens, though the old early 1930s Carl Zeiss 5cm f/1.5 Sonnar rangefinder lens and its many copies is just as beautiful in its rendering when used properly.
I’ve got the same lens on a canon 6D mk. 2. It’s beautiful and has this old film rendering like. The colours it produces is just so different from other 50 mm.
@@nsl_black8053 yes. I have had all of the canon 50 mm’s. The 1.4 is great and fast. From f/2 it’s great. But lower than f/2. I don’t think it’s great. But the difference is much more the color representation. The L is just much more alive and vibrant in the rendering. And the bokeh is much creamier.
This is my favourite lens. Despite the imperfections it paints the world in beautiful colors and it enhances the subject. It is one of the most artisitc lenses you can find. I love your pictures BTW.
Outstanding video Really liked how you pay attention to the smaller details like sound, halation affects and beating timing Looking forward for more videos like this kinds and also other styles Highly glad I’ve subscribed
This lens is said to be performing better with mirrorless cameras. Was not very popular with DSLR users. However, I found the 1.8 STM version inexpensive, versatile and of great quality.
It’s was one of the most popular in the DSLR days, now on mirrorless I’m shooting it on an R3 it’s excellent as well The nifty 50 1.8 is always great Give this lens a shot if u can 🙏
Nice video. My favorite lens today is the 50mm 1.4 Zeiss Planar. I use it on Canon 5DM3s for landscape and street photography. My grandfather shot with one on his Contax II and I have that nostalgic feeling using it.
Nice work... I enjoy playing with the 1.2... The flare and boheh are magical... I also enjoy the tomioka 55 f/1.4 and the takumar 50 f/1.4... these are manual lenses but u will have so much fun experimenting and playing with them...Hope u can give they a try...All 3 have a very unique and beautiful render....
It is a marmite lens. Those who love it really love it and those who don't only find fault. You're correct in saying the images look better than real life. It is plenty sharp. Only the 35mm 1.4L has better colour rendition. Love your images. You just need remote flash for your portraits.
I shared this same sentiment until I recently found one for just over 500 usd used at my local camera shop and had to grab it (ironically enough I was looking to grab the RF 35mm STM xD). Keep looking!
I think it’s definitely relevant because of the specific special look it gives to images, yes it’s not the sharpest at f1.2 but it’s enough for my liking
Great parody on GxAce. I liked his style, but he got too carried away with hyping up useless equipment, and his aesthetic techniques began to repeat themselves. And an excellent choice of lens - 50 1.2 - literally the worst 50mm lens Canon ever produce. Even if we don't talk about the price, any 50 1.8 or 50 1.4 is simply better. GxAce also likes to praise all kinds of overpriced equipment. Not everyone will understand, but I see what you're doing - well done.
The EF 50L is NOT a good lens. It focuses slow, it has focus issues (shifting), and it does not mitigate aberrations so good. Those who think the EF 50L is a good lens have never used the RF 50L f1.2...a far, far better lens that is everything the EF should have been, although they do share the same rendering (no, the RF is not clinical). The EF 35L is fantastic, the EF 135 too, and the EF 85L (mark II) as well...Canon messed up badly by breaking that winning cycle with the EF 50L...the worse L lense Canon has ever made (2nd bad is the EF 17-40L). The only "good" thing EF 50L fanboys can say about the EF 50L is that it has "character", a word they, themselves cannot define, nor has a cogent definition...a truly nothing word. Perhaps they will use the word "soul" too?
Say whatever but I own the RF 50 L it’s great but it lacks some of the the image characteristics that made me like the EF 50 F1.2L The RF is a great lens but it’s better compared to Zeiss OTUS in image quality and size (RF is far better yes, do I like it more no)
Rf 50 is yuck. It's like a Sony lens. Too sharp, clinical, lack of characteristics. Bought it and sold in 1 Week. Changed back to ef 50mm L,saved me $1200 and bought RF 70-200 f4 instead. I moved from Sony due to their sterile lenses and "perfect" optical quality. I feel no joy looking at my images. When I got the RF 50L, I was so disappointed that it felt the same as when I own Sony gears. Now, 85mm L, that's a different story. Retains the characteristics of the EF 85L, but much faster focusing. Justifying in getting one though, is another matter.
@@torakun3573, too many others have reviewed the RF and NO ONE of reputation accusses it of being "clinical" and "too sharp". The turth here is that you're too broke! To deny the better qualities of the RF over the terrible EF is to ignore reality, truth, and evidence.
the new RF is much sharper but this one has character. It's a new age vintage lens.
Yeah own it as well, lacks the look I’m after it’s a great lens for everything just not character
No, it does NOT have "character"...the adjective "character" is a word people use who really do not understand the attributes of lenses.
I will keep all of my EF L lenses. I like the rendering better, more natural, don't know how to express it. The sharpness of the new lenses is impressive but they do feel a bit clinical. Once they stop producing EF L lenses, you will be glad to have some in your arsenal ! .

Love this comment! Appreciate the response and yes I can agree I’ve used the RF variant but it’s too big in comparison
I have owned this lens in the past and it was incredible to say the least. My favorite is the 85mm f1.2
One of the best ever yes

Totally agree! It really is special
I have the same body and can’t wait to buy this lens, it’s just out of my budget at the moment. Does anyone know how it compares to the 50mm f/1.4?

It does have a vintage old film look to me. I prefer the RF line better, but it does look unique…😊
Fair enough!

Zeiss Classics and Canon FDs for 'character'.

Canon EF L- Series Lens are so Magical ...
most definitely true.
Can’t wait for your next video 😍
Very soon!
You gotta do an update review of the 85 ef in this style. Actually don't otherwise I will have to buy it.
Haha I will do! Thanks a lot man
Nice work, i would really like to hear more about the Fuji 35mm f1.4 you mentiond :)
Thanks a lot! Noted I will make a video about it

Thanks a lot, yes the 35L is one of my favorites
Sure an amazing lens which I could've get in the future. It's just the price which makes it almost impossible for me to purchase.
It’s expensive for sure and a little hard to justify until you’re using it in the field
@@DanAllouche Yea, I get that. Must be amazing.

Most of the pictures within this episode were shot on my trusty Canon 1DX II
Nikon 58mm 1.4g is that special lens for nikon users..
Nice video! Now I want to buy this lens… but I the money is the problem
thanks a lot, I can understand but its worth every penny
Is the shot at 0:45 using a filter or just the lens? Nice reference to gx ;)
Just the lens as is wide open at a close enough distance looks stunning, thanks for commenting and interacting
@@DanAllouche that blooming looks amazing ^^
Do you think it is a good idea to buy the ef 50mm 1.2 in 2024?
Yo lo compré la semana pasada, pensé que sería más nítido en su máxima apertura pero me llevé una gran decepción.
I think it’s definitely relevant because of the specific special look it gives to images, yes it’s not the sharpest at f1.2 but it’s enough for my liking
why do you say "fast" aperture of 1.2 ?
It lets a lot of light in, so it gives same exposure faster than smaller aperture, you can use faster shutter speeds as a result
@@DanAllouchecopy that, thanks . Loved the video and watching the compositions build.
3:46 was this also on the 50mm 1.2?
All of the pics in the video
@@DanAlloucheamazing! It almost has a medium format film look
Are you using a bloom fliter?
For some things
Dont put the ugly filter on it🙂.
Agreed
תותח על!
תודה גבר!
killer
I like your reviews, just pleas less sound effects and lower the volume of the music...
Thanks 🙏 I’ll take it into account next
Every Canon DSLR bro thought that every fast and slightly soft prime lens was a masterpiece.
Obviously you didn’t use this piece of glass at all
“Character” = lack of sharpness
Absolutely not. This lens is quite sharp and provides very detailed images
Sharp pictures do not equal good photos.
