    This entire movie very heavily implied that, during the course of Danny’s life as a physically tangible and living man, he could have psychically lobotomized *ANYONE* with his Shine, and at damn near *ANY TIME HE WISHED.* He only failed here with Rose because of how powerful and experienced she was in psychic combat. But he *ALMOST GOT HER* with one of his mind coffins. Rose was an ancient and unfathomably powerful quasi-immortal woman who used her incredibly powerful Shine to feed on the Shine of others. And he *STILL ALMOST GOT HER.* 🤯

      @@Ay3shizzle I also thought about this. although it is implied and mentioned that Abra is more powerful than Danny, I believe both of them are equally powerful but with different shine. I believe people have underestimated Danny's ability basically due to how he was portrayed in the shining as a helpless scared little boy rather than someone with great potential. I mean, come on. what kind of psychic locks up a lot of powerful scary, soul eating ghosts in his mind? all the fear lurking and just waiting to come out. those fears would have fed the True Knot for eternity.

      It had respect for Kubrick's vision but not King's. They even fckd about with the casting in this to make it more 'inclusive' but it's just masking greed, basically soulless virtue signaling for profit.

    • @50Nobody50
      @50Nobody50 Місяць тому +9

      @@1ManNamedDan there are instances where I'd agree, this is certainly not one of them. The casting is fine, what are you even referring to? Being that its a sequel to the Kubrick film, why would they worry about King's vision when he famously hated the Kubrick film? This is perhaps among the best sequels to any film I've ever seen, but trying to be a sequel to basically THE film decades later.......this was really well done. Pretty heavy opinion over such a short clip, don't seem like you've seen the movie or you'd have said at least one specific thing rather than a vague rant.

    • @1ManNamedDan
      @1ManNamedDan Місяць тому +2

      @@50Nobody50 If you'd read the book you'd know what I'm talking about, the girl was described many times as blond with pig tails and very blue eyes. The same year they made King's Gunslinger a black man and made Sandman's pale goth Death into a black woman. I'm no bigot, I just hate this ploy to create a larger audience for profit by casting characters who are not what the author described, it subverts the vision we had when we supported the work, it's a false for profit inclusivity and not any real social or artistic effort.

    • @50Nobody50
      @50Nobody50 Місяць тому +2

      @@1ManNamedDan I don't particularly like Stephen King's writing style, so no I didn't read it. Is there some experience the character has that a black girl could not have had? Is her eye color or hair color in any way pertinent to the important parts of the narrative? I am totally on board about changing the original material for no reason, but inclusion is a reason. Its only shitty if it ignores something about the original character, if it doesn't than I hate to tell you it would then sound like you are being prejudicial. I haven't read it so only you know that. Here is an example from my end.....see what you think.
      I read all of the Anne Rice vampire novels. The old movie with Cruise and Pitt was fine, but if you were a book purest you would have hated a couple of those character changes. The new tv series comes out last year, or two ago, and the Pitt character is now black. Also, his occupation is now a pimp. Pitt was a plantation and slave owning white man. The experience between these two people during the era of slavery would be so different that you simply can't pretend that character is in any way consistent with the original. That did piss me right off. Not because he was black, but because their different life experiences make them different characters in any situation. This movie doesn't come off to me as an obvious cash grab, its done too well for that, the real "rings of power" level cash grabs while dumping on source material almost universally suck very bad, and this movie didn't suck. Original depictions on how to show psychic power on screen.

      Andy learned to hide his power 😉

    • @insomnimac8368
      @insomnimac8368 17 днів тому

      It's the repression.
      Years of alcoholism hid him off the radar and he was exquisitely powerful. It is inexplicable that she didn't find him as a child - but the reason for that is he was hiding from ghosts, his mother had some very minimal shining and so did Jack. That's from the books.
      Together they hid him for quite some time without even realizing it. They ran from their life and hid his ability so he wasn't exploring it, and then when he aged he repressed it with alcohol. She's amazed they never detected him but that's because what person suppresses raw power?
      Danny might've been an alcoholic and took a turn for the worst, but he maintained a certain line. Shine power you don't use to manipulate people or steal is probably pretty rare, Danny turned to alcoholism because it was a burden, not just for what it is, but for the trauma it caused his family.
      This is a very unusual story, a more common one is likely their victims standard routine. You think you win the lottery, then you use your power and uh-oh, the ghouls come for you.
      Repressing it took humility and while it was a bad thing, it also was party of Danny's righteousness. With 100 ways to use it, he only used it to lock up ghosts and to comfort his mother.
      She couldn't *fathom* this, living a life *without* letting her power define it?
      It'd be practically blasphemy among her people.
      She's an aged immortal, she's had a lot of time to master this gift - and his surprises were the kind of thing she never would've done. Capturing ghosts? She couldn't even figure out what the hell could be in those coffins. She'd never dream of doing such a thing. Danny warns her too.
      "You don't know where you're standing".
      And she didn't listen, she thought her power was plenty.
      Couple hundred years of hubris and being an apex predator can really make you quite confident but also oblivious. It really was the only negative of her skillset, it's normally all upside.

    On reflection, _Doctor Sleep_ took _The Green Mile_ into account in the mythology of the Shining. A certain child-like man's simplicity kept him off the radar of those like Maggie, but it also left him unready for the darker nature of man when it encroached upon him. Daniel Torrance managed to contain his darkness and the shadows imprinted onto him by the Overlook, but John Coffey started with the horror of the deaths of those girls, followed by the Mile. When he went full-on Sin-Eater... in reverse... and fed Percy the essence of darkness as he understood it, John surpassed what Maggie was capable of. It is no wonder he wished to end; once a Shining One expresses the darkness instead, they become more than tainted. Maggie was a Shining One once, but she preferred to eat and live, embracing depravity. John Coffey managed to fight that back down, for which he is to be commended. Had he not... Certain Dark Men would have had competition. (Please note, I've said as much commenting on the clip "The Death Of Percy Whitmore" posted here by IvusRainbowHead.)

    If they could've just follow the book, then the movie could've been saved.
    We need a closure and this movie didn't deliver.
    Luckily, the book did. And we did get to say our goodbye to Danny and Jack.

    Maybe it’s just me but the writing really doesn’t stand up in review. It’s just missing something, it’s like a writer that hasn’t found their voice or something. And it definitely doesn’t stand up against anything Flanagan’s done for himself on Netflix.

    Only in movies we see a woman fighting like this with a man, not real life. In real life that woman would have been dead by now. 😆😆😆😆😆
