I made this trip 70 years ago. As I recall the train had wooden seats then and there was nothing at the top except the stupendous view. Sheer nostalgia!
I did the journey to jungfrajoch in 2015.The scenery was beautiful.Surprisingly, the train was driven by a lady driver. The ticket checker were jovial person. After checking tickets he took out big swiss chocolate from his coat and gave me for eating. What a pleasant surprise. The food at mountain top hotel was also very tasty though little costly.Enjoyed the memorable journey. Thanks for posting this video.
i was only 9 when i was doing the same thing..brings back good memories since when i saw the top, i remember it was a clear day and there was snow on the ground..me and my brother were having snowball fights in mid July! that was over 20 years ago..thank you for bringing me back good memories and i wish you well on your continued trip around Europe!
I travelled to the Jungfraujoch station in March 1963 aged nearly nine! I remember the station itself being underground: we exited onto a terrace overlooking a snowfield, then took a tour of an artificial ice cave containing various sculptures in ice. For some reason, one I remember particularly is a Model 'T' Ford car. There seem to be more handrails and lighting than when we were there. 9:58 - 'a nice view of fog!' We were luckier - it was a beautiful clear day at that observatory and you could see back down the glacier. I also remember that trip being the only excuse my little brother and I were allowed for quarelling, on the grounds that the thinner air up at the top made the two of us much more short-tempered! Very many thanks for that trip down Memory Lane!
Did this several years ago while staying in Wengen. It was mid to late September and the weather was glorious. If you go to Lauterbrunnen, be sure to take the train to Grindlewald, then to Klein Scheidegg then up to Jungfrau. Well worth the cost.
Personally, I don't think it's worth the cost to go right up to the Jungfraujoch. Much of the journey is in a tunnel, you have to be well equipped to go out on the snowfield at the top, and as this traveller found, the visibility can be nil! The other rides in the area, whether by train, bus, boat, cable-car or chairlift, are far better value and equally scenic. By the way, are you Chris the clarinet who studied at Sheffield?
@@tommccanna7036 No, I'm not that Chris. We were lucky the weather was so beautiful when we were up there. Some of the other "rides" and such have been added since we were there.
Great 👍 video of Switzerland awesome places, train ride, mountain 🏔 tops, birds, superb scenery! 😊Thanks so much, Kuga for sharing with us. I love ❤️ all your videos! Well done 👏 n have clicked Super Thanks too.
I haven't watched all your European trips on your channel, but I can't imagine any of them were as amazing as this one! I'm not a guy who likes heights, but that view from the top was both amazing and terrifying (even in the fog).
Sugoi Kuga-san! It's always so disappointing when you go to a very high place that takes quite an effort to get there, and then MIST! So annoying! There was beautiful areas to experience on the way so still totally worth it! Thanks again for the great videos. :)
What a beautiful environment 😍 and nature. I've never been to any European country 😕. I desire to go Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Italy 🇮🇹 one day. Love your vlog ❤.
HAHAHA! @9:55 ... reminds me of a hike that a friend and I did once years ago, where he kept talking about the "payoff" view at the top of this mountain, and we got up there and it was... a nice view of fog. We could barely see ten feet in front of us, which almost was more chilling, especially when he said, "OK, you can't SEE it, but it's a 1700 foot drop straight down to the valley floor."
WTF?! You didn't leave the train at Eismeer? That is the highlight of the trip, since that full hour inside Eiger is everything but pleasant! Everybody is supposed to leave the train and enjoy the views for a few minutes.
The views from the train were beautiful. I love the mountains. Because where I live in the US we ain't got any. And you said you want top of Europe yeah you had a nice view of the fog 🌁🌫️. When you look down on the glacier oh no does not help my fear falling. But I love this video. I'm glad you're enjoying Europe.
I don't think I've ever heard you say "the train can wait!" Enjoy the views while you can, Switzerland's glaciers are melting faster than just about anywhere else in the world...
Back in 2000, my friend and I traveled from the U.S. to Switzerland to ski the Bernese Oberland. On the day we decided to ski Kleine Scheidegg, it was snowing rather heavily and unfortunately it didn't make sense to pay the extra money to take the Jungfraubahn to the top that day. I promised myself that I would return some day and finally make it to the top of the Jungfraujoch. Hopefully that will happen soon !!!
This was the kind of comment that i was looking for. 😅 Is it really worth missing a day's riding to do this? I didn't visit the James Bond museum in Sölden, or the ice caves in Hintertux, for the same reason.
Amazing! Kuga went to Jungfraubahn. 😄 Too bad at the clouds on the top, otherwise it would had such a great view. But still! Hope he had a great adventure there!
Wow, those views and ice sculptures were spectacular. I was doing okay until the pics of the glacier (I don't do heights). Thank you for this fantastic video.
Besides many beautiful scenery trips you can have in CH which are less expensive. To go to Jungfraujoch and the Matterhorn which are quite expensive. They are both definetely worth seeing it. Best of Switzerland:)
We did that journey in 1990. On a lovely clear day with great views. It was particularly interesting for us because one of my partner's ancestors was Louis Agassiz. He was a Swiss geologist who specialized in fish fossils. He climbed the Jungfrau in the early 1860's and found fish fossils in the rocks. Being a smart chap he worked out that those fish had not swum up there - and that what is now UP must have once been DOWN. The Plate Tectonics work came from there.
3,454 m (11,333 ft) being the top of Europe is kinda cool and adorable at the same time 😆 where I live, we have many peaks that are over 4,267 m (14,000 ft). Edit: That's so cool that Switzerland and Japan have exchanged their post boxes! 😁
@@jorgestravels For me, the Caucasus and thus Mount Elbrus are not in Europe, but in Asia. Since there are no clear borders, there are of course different views on this.
@@Roger-np3wi no it's not Mont Blanc, it's the 3rd highest mountain in Europe. The highest mountain in Europe is Elbrus in the Caucus mountains at 5,624m (18,510ft). Mont Blanc is only 4,809m (15,778ft).
Very nice scenery. Your experience at the top reminds me of the time I hiked to the top of Ben Nevis in Scotland. After 4 hours of uphill I reached the top. They say you can see Ireland from there. Well on that day I could see about 50 feet as we were surrounded by clouds. Still a good experience as I'm sure your visit was. Enjoy your travels whatever they may bring.
I was lucky enough to work in Switzerland for most of 2015 - I did this trip twice - and had gorgeous clear views both times - sorry you missed out ! Did you see the windows out of the mountain tunnels on the way up up (the 'Eiger Windows') ?
You had lovely weather in Switzerland when we went on that route we got as far as Kleine Scheidegg and you couldn't see the Jungfrau and barely able to see the North Face of the Eiger so we retreated to the cafe and had Apple Strudel one with cream and one without The one with cream appeared and it was a mound of cream with some apple strudel in the middle we ended up sharing the cream.
Sei salito con la giornata sbagliata, niente vista delle montagne dalla cima. Hai dimenticato però di mostrare la finestra nella roccia sulla parete dell'Eiger alla stazione sotterranea di Eigerwand
Oh this brings back memories...and not very good ones. I did this trip a while back, and the weather was appalling, you could see nothing from the top, the lack of oxygen in the air at 3500m was very unpleasant....and it cost a fortune! In retrospect, I should have not gone beyond Kleine Scheidegg. I spent a week in the Swiss Alps and the weather was so awful (in June) that I never even saw a mountain!
