This vid is on another level, Birth looks incredible and it was so interesting to see more into the thought behind the gameplay - and it was interesting seeing more insight into the details of triple A games. Also, I loved seeing Woodo in the b-roll - haven’t thought about that game in ages so it was nice to look at again, I hope it comes out soon.
Yeah it was really cool talking to the devs behind it and seeing why they made the decisions they did. Most of the time they ran through dozens or hundreds of different iterations before landing on something the player won't even think twice about
Very effortful and insightful video! I don't know how many clicks this will get, but know that the few of us who did watch it loved it. It's nice to stop and smell the roses once in a while - to appreciate the insanely underappreciated work that goes into the games we love.
Thank you, I appreciate that. It's nice seeing people who ride with the content even when it doesn't hit the algorithm, really makes me feel like the work is worth it even if it won't reach the largest audience
This was great 💯 Good job to not have simplified the door problem (in the very aptly named section) to "doors are the most complicated thing in games!!" which I've seen a lot of people do! It's really crazy to think about that kind of apparently simple stuff in games that is just hell on the development side. I also loved that you talked about that in a video about simplicity... you really put a lot of stuff in that video.
The initial premise of this video was just about the door problem, but it's been covered to death and I really wanted to see the "corners" or extremes of the ideas it brought up, which is why I ended up with this much broader topic. Definitely one of my favourites to make
Really glad you enjoyed FF16, well, enjoying FF16 😂 special thing about this franchise that every title is different so there's fans from each who like then for different things so you don't know where people may land. Yeah I think that's another thing that makes this medium soo interesting. You can have things like your Gow's to something very minimalist like Pentiment or the games shown here. We often appreciate the bigger things in games but yeah the things we do constantly with these experiences like opening doors, picking up items, walking, crouching, is way more complex to get working in different environments, conditions, and even positions, than the obvious standout in a game.
FF16 has a lot of flaws that I just choose to ignore cause it's really fun and high production. I wish it cut some fat for sure but it's one of my favourite games of the year for sure Yeah there so many options at all times, even for someone like me who's 99% a pure action guy it's nice to wind down with games like these and just destress
Damn, man. This might be one of your best yet. I wish I could subscribe ten times. Also, downloaded whimsy and wishlisted Birth and Landlord of the Woods. Unpacking has already been on my wishlist for a while now. Those games just look like they have such a cool vibe to them. I wish some bigger games would adopt some similar puzzles/interactive moments as optional breathers and to get you better acquainted with characters. It wouldn't work with every game, but I think it could really enhance games like Life is Strange, or even TLoU. Hell, a Kratos axe sharpening/polishing mini-game could even be oddly compelling, but that might be taking it a step too far.
I'm glad you think so, it was one of the harder ones to coordinate so I'm happy it paid off haha Yeah I wouldn't mind if some games gave into their simple mechanics a bit more. It's cool to discuss how unnoticeable some of the simple aspects of games can be (even if they're a nightmare to make) but it would be even cooler if those elements got their own moments to shine within a larger game. All that work would be properly recognized that way. In a way the guitar in TLOU2 fits that pretty well, it's like a whole little minigame that also ties in perfectly with the overall story at the end. Would love to see more of that in the future
You should try it out if you like spectacle, high production, and ability based combat sort of like a more playful God of War (the Norse saga). It's story definitely drags and it has a lot of pacing issues but it's just a fun ass game for the most part. So if that's up your alley you should definitely give it a shot
Your videos are top notch

Absolute banger of a video! Also gotta say I haven't been able to finish FF16 too & I really thought I was the only one.
Also based Dr. Who reference.
I'm in like the last 2 hours or something it only took me 2 months lmao
I'm still laughing at the vat of acid you left in the sink.
All your stuff is primo quality. Ima be scrubbin' through more old videos for sure.
Prepare to be disappointed 😎
You might have convinced me to give FF16 a try… you really have an eclectic taste in games.

What was that last game you were showing after Limbo? I’m early alpha? I’ve seen some still of it and it looks gorgeous!
That game is Replaced, and I agree it looks amazing!
I could play the games in this video, but I could also play through the RDR games for a 100th time.
But what if I told you you could play RDR1 on ps4 at 30fps for the low low price of 50 dollars
Real nice
