- I grafted queens for the first time in years and decided to check on this. Was this first graft queen bee acceptance a success or failure? Watch and see. Joel from North Georgia helped me that day. We had nice visit and got a lot of work done! Glad he could hang out for the day!.

Good job on your grafts & queen takes. Those young queens will make a lot of honey. 👍🇺🇸
I hope so!
So exciting Bruce. This opens up so much for your operation.
Yes it opens up many opportunities. This has been a good year so far. Back to the basics yet trying some new things.
Looking good Bruce 😊
Thank you. It has been a fun year so far!
Glad to see you be successful with your grafts. I just placed cells from my first grafts I’ve ever done.
Best of luck to you. I was frankly shocked at the number of successful grafts I had. Hope it turns out well for you!
Well pulled a Brucie today... painted a queen green when marking her... Will have to call her "Big Neon Green" if she survives.
Yikes! Hopefully she will be ok!!! They can be tougher than you think.
@@brucesbees Checked on the Neon Green Queen today and she is alive and well and laying up every cell she can find!
@nancynolton6079 hey that’s great news!
❤great video.
Thanks
Bruce! What a great year you are having! Watching you mark those queens made me want to ask about” Big Red” is she still rolling?
Her hive is one of my strongest and also quite possibly my spiciest haha! Last time is looked for her she jumped out at me like a neon light so as far as I know she is still going strong! But haven’t been down into the brood box in awhile. That hive is now 7 or 8 boxes tall I think!
Amazing!! Take care and I look forward to your next video!
Hey Bruce, you can call that one queen “big green”😂
Haha. Fortunately I didn’t run it down her back and wings!
@johnhudson412 * What's the time stamp?
Great that the bees are doing so well Bruce!!
Thanks my friend!
I usually do find the new laying queen on the frame she emerge on/from or in your case the frame that had the cell protector installed. They seem to like to start their egg laying where they started out! I tend to mark the frames that have the queen cells and 9 times out of 10 the new laying queen is on that frame with eggs when I find her.
That is a good tip. Thanks! I can usually see the cell protector down between the frames.
Great job Bruce, ROLL TIDE !
Thanks for checking in my friend!
So happy things are working out an your queens are looking great . I think I am having the largest spring flow I have had in years and years just hope my main flow is the same. Keep up the great job. Thanks
Yep good year so far. Hope our tallow flow is good. If so it may be a record year for us.
@@brucesbees That would be great . I know there was so many bee keepers that lost out last season but luckily there was still had a dribble that came in . 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. Your colonies are looking great great . Thanks
Looking good, Bruce, makes me want to try grafting myself.
It’s worth a try. So far so good!
Thanks Bruce!!!
00:03:22 is that a white-green marker? 😂
It’s neon green. I guess it looks white in the video. But it really jumps out at you when you see the queens that are marked with it. You can see it’s green when I set it down on one of the hives during the video.
@brucesbees * I think the third queen looked greener. Amazing, the grass looks green. Filming is such a challenge. Thanks for taking it on!😊
White marker = Green 2024 right?? LOL Roll tide.
Sweet success feels so good.
It is green. Like a light like green color. Looks white in the video though. But it really pops. Almost fluorescent looking. You can see it is green when I set the marker down on top of the hive during the video.
Yes success does feel good. Could have been much worse the first time doing it. Thanks for checking in Russell! And Roll Tide!!!
I was marking with popcorn pens and probably ½ my marked queens went gone or killed. Skinny bee man says ½ the time the workers won't accept paint and end up killing her. He puts in queen cage with sugar plug after marking. I let her dry in a clip on top frames then release but still bad experiences with marked queens. I quit marking. Have you experienced any loses after marking? What brand water based paint pens you using? Also , the fast runners (very new) have actually flown away when I tried marking a fee of them , so I definitely don't attempt that any more. I've resorted to looking for signs of queen (like 1st 8yrs) I guess some people just got a special gift:)
I use acrylic paint pens. Brand is Competitive Advantage. They work well. Don’t know that I have ahead any bees get superseded sir or marking them. But I guess it’s possible🤷🏻♂️
if you have the green drone frame on the side, they will fill it up with honey instead of drones.
Never really used them much before. I moved some of them over more towards the middle. Experimenting a bit with them. Thanks for the tip.
That yard looks like its going to make you plenty honey.
I think it will. Gonna pull a little next weekend end to free up some comb for the tallow flow.
On average how long does it take for a single deep to draw comb in the second deep? Thanks for the video
So many variables. It’s hard to say. If a dearth is found on they won’t draw it out unless you feed them. During a good flow they can draw them out in a week or two. Also depends on the strength and population of the colony. And every colony is a little bit different. This is probably more confusing than anything but I done know of any specific way to gauge how long it will take.
Thanks I've learned alot from your videos. I just got my first nuc it's exciting to watch the bees work and grow. Keep up the great videos.
Awesome! Best of luck to you and your bees!
A whole lot of boxesl
Oh yeah. And this is just one of my yards.
very nice, unfortunately, I have an apiary on the border with Russia, which is constantly shelling
Oh wow! Be safe out there!
Why white? 2024 is green. Do you mark them all white?
Go to 4:21 in the video where I set the marker on the top of another hive and you will see that it is green. It’s kind of a light or neon green color and for some reason looks white in the video when I mark the queens.
@@brucesbees gotcha. I was wondering because some do use one color. And some use a baby blue for special or breeder queens.
@jamesguy8087 yeah the lighter colors seem to jump out a little more.
