motorcycle accident shattered his left leg in 1955, refused to have it amputated and left him chronic pain and permanent limp. But still he gave so much to the rockn roll music, Gene Vincent and E Cochran will never be forgotten
I have loved Rockabilly music since I heard Elvis on my dad's 8-tracks in the 70's. There is a feeling that Rockabilly music can give that no matter how I try to describe it, I can't. This Gene Vincent cover of this song describes exactly why I love Rockabilly. Them guys back in the day didn't need fancy markting to sell there music. Their talent did the marketing. I never even heard this song before tonite and yet I get an eery feeling of deja vu, even a slight tear in my eye.
Digne des plus hauts rockeurs du Monde et qui nous a fait vibrer comme Elvis, il a sa place dans le panthéon du Rock, vive Gene vincent à tout jamais,tu régneras sur le paradis rock'n'roll Merci Gene.....................
The best version , it is listened as a canticle thanks Gene once again you move us . Rest where you are . We regret you so much in France. La meilleurs version , elle s'écoute comme un cantique merci Gene une fois de plus tu nous émotionnes . Repose toi ou tu es . On te regrette tellement en France .
Gene vincent you are wonderfull l listening everytime this song but gene vincent this song different singing because from heart singing rock n roll this soul we are missing you gene vincent
was in liverpool 17 april at the great billy furys birthday celerbations to legands rocking in heaven gene was in my thoughts i miss him and billy a great deal thank you for your talent.
Gene Vincent was a great rock and roll singer. In Chile, was big hit (1957-1960). Chilean radios, now, play everyday his songs: Be-bop-a-lula, Baby Blue, Rip it up (sorry, I don't speak english...) UA-cam search MANUEL VARGAS (DISCO 45 and VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL) and you will see an honoring to many beautiful songs of these years.
This is one man who was destined for superstardom if it hadn't been for the motorbike accident that done his leg & the horrific car crash that ended his friends life Eddie Cochran to which he never truly got over,RIP Gene Vincent you'll always be remembered.
Philippe LEBLANC Je suis a chaque fois ému moi aussi j'ai du brouillard devant les yeux . Quand je l'écoute chanter il l'a chante comme on chante un cantique . Magnifique !!.
Rock n roll's first wild man sounded just as great on slow songs like this and the beautiful "Time will Bring You Everything" as the aggressive blasters!
As a TeddyBoy who only had listened to Gene sing Rockers You Tube has certainly opened My eyes to what a Great Ballad Singer he was and this is not his Best Ballad He Was a Humble Man With A Great Talent The First & Forever (UK) TeddyBoy
I saw this quote and Its appropriate to put it here ... " Skinny White Sailor .. I miss your Sad Virginia Whisper .. I miss that voice that called to my Heart .. Sweet Gene Vincent .. Young and Old and Gone .."
Hi, You can this song on the Capitol Record 1957 "Gene Vincent and the Blues Caps". It's available on CD since 2002. One of his best records. Get it !!!
Lillyblue thanks for posting this. I met Gene Vincent several times when I was just a kid back in the 1960s and I like this song because it reminds me of his gentle side. Gene had a reputation as a wild man, but whenever I met him he was a perfect gentleman, sweet and caring towards his fans and very courteous.
Gene developed a style that was/is immediately recognisable. Llike Elvis he could handle ballads like this and then launch into wild Rock "N" Roll. I saw him on stage in 1969. He was physically struggling and did a very short set, which upset the Teds. But, he could still cut it...if it was only for 20 minutes.
This is a beautiful video, which I have watched many times.(even though it sometimes makes me cry) I cannot express how much I admire and adore Vince, maybe because I love an underdog and I feel he will never get the recogition his talent deserves. At least not in America. When I think of R&R ,this is the first guy am thinking about.Thank you for making me feel like I'm not a voice in the wilderness, thank you for helping to keep Gene Vincent's spirit alive. Long Live American Music.
What a GREAT video tribute to Gene Vincent!Thank you SO MUCH! Everybody knows that Gene was one of the greatest in Rock & Roll, but I wish everybody would realize that he was also a great ballad singer. This is one of my most favorite songs of all time, liking at least 8 different versions,my most favorite one being by the Blackwells but Gene's is a strong 2nd favorite. He had one of the greatest bands of them all.The Blue Caps should have recorded a "Gene Vincent Songbook".
Just been to a rockabilly rave in Camber on the south coast of England. Very hardcore but the thing that stood out for me was the late great Gene Vincent tribute. Can’t get this version and Pink Thunderbird out of my head
I bought the 45 in a secondhand shop around 1969. (B side of "Brand new Beat). I played it to death for years, then cried when I dropped it and broke the edge. But I found another one, which I still have. What a voice. My favourite of his also.
I've heard many versions of this song from Jimmy Young to Elvis' and although I'm a hardened Elvis fan since the 1950's I have to say this version by Gene has to be the best recording made.
Gene under rated, was over shadowed by Elvis, I was never a fan of Elvis, he had good promoters. I will take Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins who I grew up with, I collected 45rpm records as that was what to buy. I still have those, plus the record player. That was great Rock N Roll music in my ERA, I still prefer to listen to those songs.
A beautiful song sang by a beautiful man. We had this played in church at my daughter's funeral so it always brings back lots of memories for me. Thanks for posting this Lilly.
Hi there. Sorry came across your comment whilst watching GV videos. I just wanted to say, thanks for sharing your comment. I lost my Dad when I was 4 years old. I think it is hard for some people to actually understand what it is too lose someone who you value more than life itself. I hope that every day you think about your daughter and remember for who she was and smile......have a great day! and I hope this wasn't an inappropriate comment.
I grew up listening to Gene and he has inspired many musicians, he was the true king of rock and roll.
motorcycle accident shattered his left leg in 1955, refused to have it amputated and left him chronic pain and permanent limp. But still he gave so much to the rockn roll music, Gene Vincent and E Cochran will never be forgotten
❤❤😊😊
The late great Gene deserves more recognition
Saw Gene Vincent on both his UK tours at Mansfield Granada absolutely brilliant ,my then girlfriend screamed her head off.magic.
Si merece más reconocimiento.
This song makes me cry, dont know why...
Loved Gene Vincent under rated his entire career, and overshadowed by ELvis. I grew up with Gene Vincent, the way he sings this song is magic.
No body could do this song like Gene .
@@marijooneill8015 Of course not. Why would anyone want to sound like a frog on a log?

First time I heard Gene was as a kid seeing him clad in black leather on British tv clinging to the mic stand..... iconic. Been a fan ever since
