In a Grammar school near Manchester England in 1962, the music master came into class and told the 1st year boys that he had met Hank and had a coffee with him in a cafe in North Wales, and that Hank had said that his one regret was not learning to read music. This was almost certainly a big, compound fib - but I remember it after all these years, and Hank bless him, is still with us to tell us so if he chooses.
@@Kevin-mx1vi I guess I was somewhat right back then when I was kid. Just never thought about it that deeply being an influence for western TV shows and films. More of feeling listening to "Apache" when it was played on the radio airwaves which it would have been good for a western film theme back then in the 60's. Which comes to mind now that I think about it, I always did like the theme as well for the TV western show that was on prime time on NBC, 'The High Chaparral' which takes place in Arizona.
I’ve always loved this melody ’APACHE❣️😄 Makes me think of the days years ago when I would race my mare over the wide open country of South western Montana where I grew up, hearing the rhythm of her hooves against the hard, dry ground, feeling the power in her hind legs, watching her mane flying behind her strong neck with each sure stride and my own hair streaming behind me in the wind. We would quietly and steadily climb a particular high hill, stop at the top,for brief breather, then RACE downhill to join in with the fleeing group of about 30 to 40 head of elk. Before long they would leave us behind, but it was a thrill to be almost able to reach out and touch these large, powerful yet graceful cousins of the deer family❣️I still feel that thrill of rushing along on my strong and quick-footed little red mare, and my heart begins to race again when I hear ‘APACHE’❣️😄❤️

In 1960 I was 12 years old; this was one of my favorite songs of that year. I’ve no doubt that I might remember other songs but none that I liked more than this!
I've been obsessed with this song for a few days now. I thought they were closer to 30 years old at first. There is every 'type' from the 1950s counter-culture, except maybe the Jazz-man. You've got bookish Hank with the Buddy Holly glasses, the pool-hall hustler, the James Dean-inspired Rocker, and the clean-cut sweater frat-boy. And somehow they all look cooler to me than anyone I could imagine today.
I knew that today it came out 1960 when I was 9 years old. In Korea I listen to and enjoy this from 12. I am now 71 years old. and play it on the stage as a guitarist. All of the world people love Apache! Great music!!

As a small child in Ireland in 1960, I was forbidden from singing along with popular music songs, and only allowed to sing traditional Roman Catholic Mass songs, such as the "Kyrie" and "Who's Father Keeler been touching now, anyway?" But then this song came out. And my father, stern taskmaster though he was, allowed me to listen and to learn this song. And I am proud to say that even today, so many years later, I still remember and can sing along to every single word of this song.
I heard this @ ten years old and learned it note for note. I'm 73 now and guitars kept me mostly sane in an insane world.. Learn to play what your heart tells you to.
Man, I'm digging the whole pakalolo-drenched Beatnik aesthetic, mellowed out, yet still giving a great performance, the clothes, the cool expressions - I wish I could be there!
Granted, I was only eight eight years old in 1960, but damn, how did The Shadows manage to stay off my radar screen until recently? I've always enjoyed instrumentals, and these guys really had "it" -- and it's fun to watch Hank Marvin play, he seems to enjoy it so much!

This is a great song by a very Imporant Band. Agree. But this comment section is again one of those places where people celebrate the "good old days" and that only back then we had great music. I dont think so. As a Fan of the 70ties Rock Stuff I have always been open for New stuff. Dont stay in the past. Look back sometimes but then Look ahead and keep going.
As a small child in Ireland in 1960, I was forbidden from singing along with popular music songs, and only allowed to sing traditional Roman Catholic Mass songs, such as the "Kyrie" and "Who's Father Keeler been touching now, anyway?"
But then this song came out. And my father, stern taskmaster though he was, allowed me to listen and to learn this song.
And I am proud to say that even today, so many years later, I still remember and can sing along to every single word of this song.
That would be easy-going.
As a boy in New Zealand at the time I wondered what the Shadows from England knew of the Indians in the Cowboy movies I saw at the matinee.
"Who's Father Keeler been touching now". . . . lol. . . HF . . what's going on here?
@@ClockCutter And just what is an HF? :-(
An HF is what the good Father was trying to give those boys...@@flamencoprof
Exelent❤IWAS BORN 1961❤AND I'M STILL A BIG FAN FOR THIS ADORABLE BAND! GOD BLESS THANK YOU!❤
I heard this @ ten years old and learned it note for note. I'm 73 now and guitars kept me mostly sane in an insane world.. Learn to play what your heart tells you to.
I was taught it in 1961..Took my mate weeks to teach it to me.I am 83 .
My mates name who taught it to me is Albert Lee.
WOW ...... first time I've heard of them and this song. Great vibes
Man, I'm digging the whole pakalolo-drenched Beatnik aesthetic, mellowed out, yet still giving a great performance, the clothes, the cool expressions - I wish I could be there!
If you can remember the 60s, you weren't there. 🤣😂🤣😂😎
Yes! These guys emit "coolness"! This is the first time seeing the video and hearing the whole song. I love it!!
Superbe, beaucoup imité, mais jamais égalé, un régal.
Absolutely incredible 🙏🎶
They were just kids back then. Brucie in a hat. OMG. So cool.
Granted, I was only eight eight years old in 1960, but damn, how did The Shadows manage to stay off my radar screen until recently? I've always enjoyed instrumentals, and these guys really had "it" -- and it's fun to watch Hank Marvin play, he seems to enjoy it so much!
Just four buddies hanging out in the garage playing badass rock n roll!
Home grown Brititsh rock 'n roll truly began in 1960 - with this and Johnny Kidd and the Pirates Shakin' All Over
Today is tge 1st time I am listening this. Amazing.
