- Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara; 5 September 1946 - 24 November 1991) was a British singer, songwriter, record producer, and lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. Mercury defied the conventions of a rock frontman, with his highly theatrical style influencing the artistic direction of Queen.
'Killer Queen' is a song from the British rock band Queen. With this fourth single, they reached second place in the English charts at the beginning of 1975 and became known to the general public. The song was written by singer and pianist Freddie Mercury and appeared on the album 'Sheer Heart Attack'.
Mercury has indicated that while writing this song he was influenced by early songs from The Beatles and The Beach Boys and textually by Noël Coward.
This was Queens first and only visit to the Toppop studios in the Netherlands. It was first broadcast on 4 December 1974. For later singles their videos were used in the program.
'Killer Queen' reached #3 in the Dutch Top 40, #2 in the UK charts, #12 in the US charts and #12 in the German charts.

Freddie had vocal nodules in his voice during mid-late 70s, which i think greatly affected his ability sing smoothly. While he could’ve had surgery to remove them, he feared that it would only ruin his voice further, hence why Queen songs in late 70s-80s was more focused on rock and roll (In which I mean more yelling and a more powerful way of singing, e.g “I want to break free”, “Another one bites the dust”, etc.). The change in Freddie’s voice was seen very clearly in their performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” in live aid, since Freddie sang it in a more rock and roll type of way, unlike the soft and smooth way he sang it in the 70s.
Though it is true that AIDS somewhat also affected his voice, since Freddie’s voice in the late 80s-90s was very soft, as seen in the album “Innuendo”, where most of the songs was sang very softly by Freddie, which can mean that he cannot sing greatly anymore.

I remember seeing Queen support Mott The Hoople in the early 70's and rushing out to buy Sheer Heart Attack when it was released in 74. Played it endlessly. Still appreciating this brilliant band all these years later.
