Is Continuous Light KING In Studio?! Portrait Photoshoot BTS (Neewer MS150B)
#photography #portraitphotography #photographyforbeginners
In portrait photography, there's a place for both strobes and continuous light! But there's no denying that WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) in using continuous light can make a photoshoot a lot easier and more efficient. In this video, I'm testing out the Neewer MS150B - a 130W continuous COB light - during a recent studio photoshoot with Zaria.

    Really appreciate your work here. I tried to compare this by comparison test but i didn't see much difference by then. Maybe it's difficult when you are the one sitting at the front of the camera rather than a mannequin Thank you you for pointing out the output between the 2.

    with through the umbrella, one can adjust the position of flash and have more or less area covered with bare bulb and intensity also remains the same in comparison with Fresnel head. that is what i concluded from my online research. but now this video is new to me and it shows that w.r.t soft boxes the case is different. here one cannot adjust the adpro 200's distance from the edge of the diffuser like one can do in umbrella right? sorry i am newbie and so such a question

    since the distortion is only applied only to a small portion of the image as you zoom further in, the right way to do this experiment would be to have a wall with a projector which where you increase the size of the mannequin to fit the same frame. this is not to say that i deny your explanation about distortion. all im saying is, the experiment would be much more reliable is all

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife 24 дні тому

      I don’t understand what you’re saying here. If I moved the position of the mannequin, it would be the same as me moving my position and that would create a non-constant variable. The point of the video was to show that the lens itself isn’t causing distortion, but instead being super close to the subject creates a perceived distortion (I say perceived because as you saw in the clip, lines are still completely straight even when using a 24mm and being right up on the subject; if the lens itself caused distortion, those lines would bow outwards).

  • @keithvlogs1

      That's definitely what I was going for Rusty, hence my ISO at 3200 on the last shots (it was evening time and I wanted the ambient to still play a factor in the shots). I hope you've been well. Nice to hear aomeone who isnt convinced by the marketing rubbish. Yes in film cameras the filters were needed but its a digital world baby! The only thing i would say is that stopping the light BEFORE the lens gives a slight difference in the bokah or the way a lens flares when some lenses are wide open. Other than that just turn the evc down a stop and move on with your life.

    HI Anthony. Firstly, Kudos for going out and shooting in those conditions when many others would of stayed home GAS surfing on MPB or similar places. My favourite image was at 16:16 with the person carrying an M&M bag, it was if you built up to finding an image like that during the video, the option of a tighter square crop to edge of the bag works for this image as well I have had many conversations with people about ethics in photography, street in particular, it is an interesting subject. I always suggest people look up the pictures known as 'Fire escape collapse' taken by, Stanley Forman, as a talking point. There is a good article in, Art & Glamour, that shows the whole set of images taken. It raises the question of would you, if you came across a similar scene, have taken those pictures. Enjoy your weekend and good vibes to you from this side of the pond.

    It was a huge mistake when I gave the client ( an in house marketing person at the company) raw files upon request. His edit was so bad. Thankfully he showed the woman he asked me to photograph my edit also. Guess who's headshot she posted on her socials? Mine. I feel so bad for her that the terrible one he edited is on their company's social media. It looked like he didn't know at all how to edit a raw file, it basically still looked RAW lol, kind of flat looking, no vibrance, no anything. I'll never release the Raw files again. I'm glad she posted my edit, showed him. It was as if he had heard, you need to get the raw files because they are the best quality and he had no idea what raw files look like, unedited. As far as comments on photos, the photos I have shot of people get the most comments/engagement not their own photos.

I've had their in house people literally destroy beautiful, high res edited photos to a point that they should have not hired a professional photographer because they resized it to the point where it looked pixelated and I have no idea in God's name what they did to the color, it ended up looking like they desaturated it to black and white and then recolorized it with the paint brush tool and not it was not for effect, it was supposed to look like all the other headshots. I feel bad for the client, because I'm not cheap and someone is destroying the files lol.

      I love the AD-B2! Allows for two AD200’s when I need two strobes or combine into the AD-B2 for 400w when I need that. It’s great for my needs.

    Great review. Either this or the DJI, will you have issues if you have your camera in a cage, like a GH7.

      With the Zhiyun, I’d say no. With the DJI, I think it could probably handle it but it’d be at the top threshold. Zhiyun’s payload max is a little over 2lbs more than the DJI.

    Recently had a bit of bad luck with my photo storage, I lost all my images (RAW) files of four years. I had just taken a wedding and had quite the panic attack. Luckily was able to get the wedding portraits back, and chose to give the bride all her raw images back (+ the edited). I took a stab to my creative pride, she’s using the raw images over the unedited images. Not sure how to feel about it, but I do know I need to make some changes with my editing skills. But having the raw images given to the client was able to put a safety net if I were to ever lose all my photo storage again.

      For you, what’s the difference between RAW files and unedited files with respect to what your client is using?

      You can find the thread size on your lens cap, or on the front of the lens. Look for a number that has a symbol resembling the letter “o” with a line through it, in front of the number.

    Too many pluses to ignore. I wish someone could explain how to make the images look more like the 135/2 or 200/2.8 - not a fan of "bright and white" wedding look for other things, including portraiture.

      @AnthonyToglife 2 місяці тому

      Well, that “bright and white” look has nothing to do with the lens and everything to do with camera settings, but the 70-200 - albeit moderately close - is not going to look like the 135/2 at f/2 lol. I’ve never used the 200/2.8 but I’m thinking even it would render the background better than the 70-200. You could probably do some artificial things in post to get the look to be similar, but nothing beats in camera.

      @@AnthonyToglife Thanks, Anthony. This was an enjoyable and satisfyingly helpful video because It's grounded in your long real-world experience. That was the answer I was hoping for. I love the 135 and 200 but won't buy them this time because the 70-200 is just so versatile. I will get a black wrap, though (since they don't sell one with Pooh Bear images).

    Hi Anthony. People failing to treat people the way they would want to be treated is the problem. What is the ratio of models who behave like this compared to those who do not?

  • @colingerard7863

    Hi Anthony. Those personal shoots are the ones that produce images with a heartfelt passion that are missing from a lot of models portfolios. They are missing out as result. Some of the best people I have seen in front of a camera were always dancers Laters.

    Hi Anthony. Inexperienced models are like those people who genuinely believe they could play in Beyonce's band who only know three chords...ooof.

    Hi Anthony. This appears to be a product where Neewer have done extensive R&D with the result being the things you highlighted in this review. The handle on top of the unit, not overheating in difficult circumstances (the fan being on all the time that will extend its life) and the robustness of the product were good to see. What will you say in a six months time, well, it will be interesting to watch that follow up. A well presented and helpful review. I am new to your channel and will enjoy taking a stroll around over the coming weeks. I had the time of my life working as a photographers assistant, luckily, with good photographers. The dynamic of shoots, big or small, and the various people involved with them was a great learning curve. Where people gain knowledge in photography may be amongst the videos on your channel that I find as I look around. Sending good vibes from London and enjoy the rest of your day.

      Hi Colin, it’s nice to have you here! I’ve used the Q4 quite a bit more since this video and it has still delivered in every way I’ve needed it to. It’s a beast. It was a bit nerve-racking booming it overhead for a shoot (due to the weight of the unit) but it ended up being all good.
