Thanks for this, Gary. I have been making models for nearly 70 years now, and picked up a lot of tips from your vids. I will be using my model (when finished) to illustrate a talk at 42 Hangar, Blackpool airport in July.
Looking good, Garry. Remember to not fill the seam between the forward bomb-bay doors...They were opened to load the upkeep mine from the front. (It was too tall to be loaded from the rear.) After they closed the doors the vee-belt was refitted to the drive motor. Everybody loves Lancasters. Brilliant subject matter.
Well done Gary it's looking very good, one of the things l like about watching these build videos and being a returning modeller is all the tricks and tips you can pick up by listening and watching what goes on looking forward to the next part 👍
I have not built a model for over 55 years, i have this one in its box to build. I dont remember them being so hard to be honest, and as much as i enjoyed the video, it has scared me rather a lot
@@garys_stuff cheers Gary. I like the stuff you do as you don't pitch things at too high a level as they do on some other channels and you get just as good if not better results. I also understand we're from roughly the same neck of the woods. I come from Southall originally & used to have a Nan & Grandad luve in flats near to RAF Northolt. Keep up the good work.
Hi Gary, you are making great progress on this very iconic aircraft, looking forward to the next update, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍
My first kit on returning to to modelling and as yet untouched as I then found out what had happened to modelling since my early teens! Back then I used what was in the box and nothing else exc. Paint of course! So this has been saved in the GS folder and will be watched again when I do finally make the plane. Now Gary may I suggest you wear gloves or those cots things as it’s impossible not to get grubby finger nails! And the macro really highlights the lot mate. Good work with great tips and experience shared, keep up the ace work! Bob England
Just finished the Lancaster B . Putting in the two side cockpit blisters was a pain. I used pva glue to avoid frosting, but took ages to get them to stick. Wish the cockpit canopy was in one piece.
Nicely done! 🙂 It's a great looking aircraft; yet another that I built about 5-odd years ago now! I cheated with the painting and used rattle cans - spray cans - for the main underside, and the brown upper coat, then hand painted Humbrol 163 green (if I remember right.... or was it a LifeColour dark green? Can't remember, however, Humbrol 30 is just not the right colour!!), for the camo finish! I also didn't mask off the fuselage side windows, as I believe from various sources in books and online, that they were painted over to prevent light-bleed....😉
Hey Gary great video, about 5/6 weeks too late for me as I’m building BIII version at the moment. I had a massive issue putting the fuselages together, just didn’t line up and also some reaction when i was painting, suggestions think I should’ve washed the spures to get the releasing agent off - we live and learnt. Looking forward to seeing the finish article, good skills, cheers Liam
I had similar issues with the fuselage. Looks like the parts are too hot when they come out of the mould and the fuselage halves relax and flatten out a bit. Another one in the stash fits together perfectly.
Another great video Gary, it really put me in the mood for my kit. What a disappointment though, warped fuselage and nothing went together to the extent that its now on the shelf of doom. Getting quite tired of being let down by Airfix kits and I've got a 1/24 Typhoon in the stash! Sorry for the rant, but you've made a great build mate.
Hi Gary, I'm new to modelling having only just completed my first airfix starter kit but find your work mesmerising...you make it look remarkably easy! Would you be able to list the tools and paint you use along the way for the model please? I'm hoping to make it my next kit and want to be fully prepared! Thanks for taking the time to share your work
For tools can I suggest to Ten Top Tips video I did ages ago - there is plenty of advice in there. The paints I used on this were all Vallejo Model Air acrylics - BS Dark Green, BS Dark Earth, Black, Tyre Black, Aluminium and Gunmetal. The kit will come with colour call-outs for Humbrol paints which you can use, or there are online conversion tables if you want to use someone else's colours.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Gary. Side note - I watched on t'big telly (therefore good sound) and there was a lot of background noise at times, like a radio or telly playing in the background. No biggie, but a bit distracting and I know you care about this stuff.
Hi. Beginners question. I notice you put in painted parts using TET onto the painted surface. ( Instrument panel etc.) Can I do this without having to try and scrape paint off the very small parts?
Have a look at the 1300mm 3dprinted scale flying model of the 3daeroworks Lancaster test flight video on my channel and rc groups for the build design thread
It's not necessary, it's a choice. Many of us wonder why we take so much time over things that will not be seen later, it's just part of the obsession of modelling I suppose. But you can make a view that you'll likely not see anything inside and not bother at all if you want - it's your choice and that's what matters.
@@garys_stuff Aha! Thanks very much! Having built a few Airfix kits in my youth (when a Series One kit cost 1/11d from my local toy & model shop!) I have decided to dabble anew with the hobby before I become too old and my eyesight too poor to manage the small parts. Accordingly I've purchased a Bf109 "Starter Kit", but have been eying up some of the bigger/more advanced stuff too.
Good evening Gary, I’m wondering if I may use your thoughts per your last reply. I have yet to do so, as this is beyond the copyright law. I wish to include your name but that’s just it, I’ll be using your name . I will not include your thoughts to my next message to Airfix as you may not be wanting to be used. I did send the airfix shop a note already. This aircraft is my own love for Canadians and, trust me, we number in the thousands. Any way, I don’t want you to think of me as a nasty pest so there it is then. Forever in His service
Alex, you don't need to use my name because it won't make a difference to Airfix! And I do understand the passion of Canadians as I have some family over there. All any of us can do is give Airfix our opinions and they will decide what they think is best for their company.
I like the ASMR effects in your videos. If one listens closely, they can hear the crickets outside your workshop. 🙂
Some clips it's louder than others...

Nice run-through of the first part of the build! When I heard the dog barking, I was reminded of Gibson's N-worded pooch
Our two would have to have similarly unacceptable names, being the opposite hue...
Thanks!
Thanks Barry!

It is a pain - I suppose it's a way of making enough versions for all the options they will sell, the Mosquito is the same...

Navigators desk needed a copy of your upcoming book "Gary's Guide to fitting more stencils on your models" 🤔☕🐢
The publishers have refused it - the font was too small....
Great stuff as usual Gary
I have the battle of britain memorial flight by airfix to build with the hurricane and the spitfire with the awesome lancaster
Imagine a 1/24 Lacaster to compliment the Spitfre.

Possibly m'dear wife watching TV downstairs if I was filming in the evening. I've stopped filming at night so this shouldn't be an issue in future!

I've never had a problem with that, to be fair, but you can try to make sure contact surfaces are clean.

Why is it necessary to be so particular when spraying the inside of the fuselage? , I mean it's not going to be visible anyway as it's on the inside

Hi Gary, I have a question. What do you mean by "imperial thumbs up"? Thanks!
Just a little joke. Harks back to the trope that in Rome the emperor would turn his thumb up to signify mercy for a gladiator.
