Most people are in love with mild boost or mild overdrive but do not realize it and mistake it for needing a distortion pedal to chase the sound that they love and remain confused as to why they can't get the sound they want.
That actually registered in my dopey 50 year old brain. Even playing for 35 of those. You learn something every day. Thanks Nick 🎸 P.S. I got the Sabbra Cadabra. It’s dope.
It is easier to use simpler categories.. There is low gain OD (most transparent) __medium gain (Crunch) __high gain (distortion) extra high gain (Metal). Fuzz ...(it creates a square wave. They make odd order distortion as opposed to even order distortion, tubes) Boost ...primary distortion free where it's level going into an amp overloads your amp forcing it go into distortion)
Clipped! Every one of them "clipped" the signal. How much, more or less! It's overdone by most guitarists. Modern pickups overdrive the amp sometimes and some guitarists don't even know they're doing it (tin ears). I love the sound of my guitar when the signal is squeezed into my tube amp and a minor amount of natural tube compression gives me that blues sound that same sound I grew up with my Silvertone guitar into my Danelectro amp (late 60's). I turn my guitar volume pedal down slightly and try to keep all my pedals unity gain. Never use too many pedals at one time I want some hint of natural guitar in there somewhere. Loved the ending Nick!
I picked up a right handed version of the LP he's playing in this video accidentally for under 600 bucks brand new. I didn't intend on buying it, but I've got it and it's a keeper. It's actually a pretty damned good guitar.
History lesson .This is good. This Mr. Wave guy gets put through the ringer. Poor sucker? Or innovator? Her comes the FUZZ. Then 20 DB of boost. Link it. Then like or don't like it, Pour the lead in your ears.It is getting loud mom and dad.Now he OVER drives into your chest. You feel it. Great lesson here. It is called ROCK AND ROLL.
The market would be saturated (no pun intended) with boost pedals instead of overdrives if "vintage rock" players would embrace hotter pickups, especially with amps in the 15-20 watt range.
I dont mind this presenter! In this video, the information is relevent to the topic, this is always a good thing. However, the hand gestures, is way to much, as it is repeated ad nausium.

You should list the pedals Nick demonstrated and showed during the video in a link above.

I've been a fan of Mr Bowcott since the 80s.
This is a very helpful video! And I like the jokes. Thanks :)

Yay! A fellow leftie!! Great, informative video!
EVH Overdrive is an exception for overdrive. Use TS-9.
Question in the sidebar: “ How Many Distortion Pedals Do You Really Need?”
The answer, as with all guitar gear, is: “just 1 more”
Lol

Mild, Medium, Hot, Insane. As a not-guitar player, best thing I have learned 🙂
The 4 taco bell sauces? 😂
wow thats alot of pedals

I know everyone's tastes in music are different but I just do not get the appeal of fuzz. At all.
Not part of the monkey pox target demo, but Nick looks good with stubble.

Well explained. Thanks. Time for a bath.
Four minutes in. You could be done. But you haven't started.
...and "here's what Google says." Okay, SKIP.
