Beat us 5-0 then a few days later 2-1 in the milk cup. John Gidman og 😭, one of the most violent nights I've seen outside Old Trafford. One group of Everton fans stupidly parked outside the car showroom on Chester road. Openly mugged, I can still hear one guy screaming "get his rings", height of the Manchester/Merseyside rivalry. Went too far but no doubt it would have been the same outside Goodison if it was reds. Great Everton team that wasn't allowed to prove it at the top level. Would they have been European champions, they certainly would have gone close.
was on the kop that day with my brother , me a red him a blue, look @6.15 everton fans celerbrate the final whistle on the kop, no segregation , just an imaginary line with about a half dozen coppers spread from the fence to the back, atmosphere in the 80's puts todays grounds to shame, great goal btw..... jft96
Nowadays you have a 45 year old whoppers in a replica tops grassing on people for swearing or smoking!! I'm a City fan and miss Maine Rd so much. Football was brilliant as a kid back then, yeah there was trouble but it never stopped my old man taking us like the media nowadays report it? Atmosphere was a different ball game. Great goal by Sharp! Was on opening of MOTD for ages after.
I’m a Manchester City season ticket holder of 47 years. The last decade for us blues has been the stuff of dreams, and our title winning teams apart, and before that and the premier league, this Everton team that won the title in 1985 was probably my favourite title winning team of the last 50 years. An absolutely brilliant team of great pace, power and skill, they could all play, and they jelled together as a real great team. Neville Southall was unbelievable and easily the worlds best keeper around this time. Didn’t Derek Mountfield score around 15 goals from centre half? Such a pity this team was denied the chance of competing in the European cup the following season, and we all know who’s to blame for that, don’t we? They would have come really close imho. Read Wikipedia on heysel mate before spouting stuff you know nothing about. The behaviour of your fans in this era?? Do you know UEFA officials and a police chief were jailed for that disaster? They put LFC fans next to a neutral area for the locals. And guess what the locals did? Sold them to juventus fans. Do you know what separated the fans? Temporary chain link fencing. Some shit started between a section of the fans and rocks from the crumbling stadium started being used as missiles. Next thing is there's a full scale riot. If United, city, Chelsea or arsenal fans had been there would the outcome be any different? No, because no fans were snow flakes back then. I've nothing against juventus whatsoever, but they have to accept their fans did contribute towards it too. No doubt LFC fans misbehaved terribly. But always fans like you lay 100% of the blame at LFCs door which is wrong. One last thing. LFC tried in vain to get UEFA to change the venue weeks before the final as the stadium was that poor. You know what they said!! Yet it's LFCs fault. Not being arsey with you, or don't mean to be, but just take five minutes and read Wikipedia on it. And I mean all of it.
How dare those filthy evertionans invade our pitch after scoring....lol. Good goal though from sharp..he was always a thorn in our side...But if their is one player out of the 1980s Everton team I would of loved to have had in the great lfc team of the 1980s?....Its Neville Southall...The greatest goalkeeper in the world at this time...
Even as a Liverpool fan that was some strike from Sharp, and Everton were top class that season. Neville Southall was just amazing that season.
Amazing football, amazing team...FC Everton 1984 - 85
