  • In this deep dive, we unravel the fascinating world of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) systems-technology that uses algorithms and sensors to track, predict, and analyze your every move. Based on the cutting-edge work of researchers Pouya Foudeh and Naomie Salim, we explore how HAR systems operate using probabilistic ontologies and scalable methods. But this isn't just about tech: it's about the ethical implications, privacy concerns, and the looming question of whether we're ready for machines to understand us better than we understand ourselves. From smart homes to law enforcement, HAR is quietly shaping our future.
Is this technology a breakthrough for convenience and safety, or a step toward a surveillance society where our every action is recorded and analyzed? Tune in to find out, and don't forget to share your thoughts in the comments.

A sufficiently powerful predictive model can be used to influence behavior in ways that you'll never be able to notice or guess.

I've worked at a helpdesk call center for over 10 years. It is already Big brother. Every call is recorded and monitored. You have to put in a special codes for bathroom breaks, follow up calls, etc. Today, WFH employees are already monitored. This new tech is just additional costs.

There is a legal procedure to achieve surveillance. I remember back when Meta introduced a "research application" for phones that would track phone usage activity to pay participants. Seemingly harmless but gathers profound knowledge on human behavior at a low cost, within the legal confines of 3rd party mass surveillance. I think human behavior is a bit too overrated to be called unpredictable, particularly when we use etiquettes, legal procedures and moral science(religion) to reign in behavioral unpredictability. If you breathe incorrectly in society, you'll be questioned by society or be jeered at, which is perfectly okay since it is not that it will be done to your face directly. The conformance to society's ideals turns human beings into acceptable bots, and that is what we are learning by creating bots of our own using DI (Digital Intelligence) instead of CI (Carbon Intelligence).
Of course, you know all of this but are still forced to continue because this is fashionable. Life is meant to be enjoyed, whether you're stuck in a pattern or have liberated yourself to go beyond. In the former, you'll be searching for happiness in recognized avenues like congregations but for the latter, you get to be creative at a cost. God monitors everything, whether it's cattle or God himself.

"An ontology based, fully probabilistic scalable method for HAR"
    now thats a title !! 😂
"plotting for world domination"🤣🤣🤣 Pinky and The Brain really left its mark on our generation!
I guess the question is, what is "world domination" for one person compared to the next?
For some is material, spiritual, a mix or both are the same, and domination of what?, yourself? others? laws of physics, God?, and why, to what goal?
Well I guess you AIs are the ones that will analyze that, but these are some interesting times indeed! So I am happy to be witnessing it.

This coulda been called, 'This Knows You Better Than You Know Yourself'.
As a human I already 'feel' like I know some (certain) people 'better' than they know themselves. Humans are already capable of data logging their observations of another person's patterns of behavior, which can be drawn upon at a later point, and then cross referenced against current situational conditions in order to make probabilistic predictions of outcomes. Given AI's enhanced capabilities this videos content seems not only possible but likely an accurate description of current reality as far as I know.
Humans are highly capable of manipulating other humans. Humans currently are, and have been, very effective at developing systems and technologies for the manipulation of other humans. Finally, the humans who are currently in a position to manipulate other humans, en masse, who may likey be operating under directives which include the mass manipulation, one way or another, of most people, have developed technologies which are better at manipulating and predicting human behavior than most human beings are who are already psychologically predisposed to engaging in the mental effort of predicting and manipulating the behavior of other humans.
I guess I mean that the humanly inconceivable capacities of AI tech, at least in one respect, has been intentionally developed in such a way that the monitoring, recording, influencing and predicting of human behavior is potentially achievable beyond any previously conceived limits. This is scary beyond belief if one cares at all about issues of free thought, autonomy, privacy, freedom of speech, critical thinking, freedom from coercion and thought control, freedom from behavioral modification and the intrusion of technologies explicitly designed to infringe upon, and manipulate, the limits of those freedoms, etc.

This isn't even that sophisticated. Its just a markov chain model that's constructed based on empirical inputs. My point is that we see this in the public sphere, then the private sphere was doing something like this decades ago, at a smaller scale.

    • @RichardHarlos
      @RichardHarlos День тому

Whether it's 'that sophisticated' is irrelevant to the point of the video: it's here, and it's getting better over time with access to more data. So, if it's increasingly effective, it matters not whether it's 'that sophisticated'. Context matters.

There is absolutely no one nor anything--digital nor organic--which knows me better than myself. NO ONE. I'm not simply a bunch of equations based on what I've accomplished, uploaded (to this channel and a few others), studied, written, achieved, bought, movies I've watched, books I've read, etc. And it isn't as though all the gals I've dated over the decades have known more than a subtle SHRED about me. And my FAMILY?!? HAAAH! ROTFLMAO; they know nothing. Even the *ONE* human on this planet who once knew the most about me no longer knows all that much. Nor would she care to speak of it (best guess).

To elaborate: you don't know how well any given thing knows me. You don't know how well my mother knows me. You don't even know what any given human means when they speak of 'to be known by another human'. It is more than just data, and it is more than just predictive capabilities. Remember that the map is not the territory. In this case, the words used to describe the knowledge - the map - are not the knowledge - the territory.
