Which is EXACTLY what covered chest is all which is EXACTLY what all the greats did and none does now. It should be all the way to the top, but covered, balanced and released.
That may be the Russian or German tradition. In the Italian tradition, you don't drag the chest all the way to the top. You transition over the passagio and do something slightly different up top. It saves voices. There are many great singers in the German and Russian tradition, so nothing wrong with that. Takes a special talent.

Some person or people have told you this lie and you bought into it which is sad to see, but very common. Which is why we no long hear great voices anymore. It is all a complete lie. My teacher was Sicilian American. I have a student who studied with Corelli for 15 years and said I do exactly what he did, but I can explain much more than he could. As a teacher. So don’t tell me there’s some difference because you don’t know what you’re talking about. Try to learn more try to listen more and try not to interpret what you think from what you’ve been lied to about.
