This is the first field theme you hear ingame, so it leaves a lasting impression. For me it’s one of Ys VIII’s best tracks, as it perfectly matches the feeling of adventure and exploration that the game is all about.
Ahh yes, Y's and the first dungeon/field music that sounds like end game music. It makes sense why you thought of that, good call. I love how the guitar drums are heavily rocking left and right only to get the violin hot drop in the middle of the stage and steal the show. Love it, there is something about melodic violin combined with heavy/metal sound that it suppose to not wok but the music of the magic kicks in and make it work. Fantastic music for the fist area of the game that makes you hyped for the adventure to come! On point reaction and analysis Jesse, keep em coming!
It’s from the starting area of the game. The Ys series tends to have pretty happy-go-lucky, beginner friendly sounding stage songs for their early game. There’s also different versions of some songs out there including this one.
As others have said this is the first main area’s music and it hits you hard on your first playthrough. Ys games in general have had a tradition of using more intense and upbeat music for field and dungeon themes, mainly cause of the fast paced and action focused nature of the series. Anytime you’re not in a town or other similar place, you’re usually mowing down enemies and dashing towards your next objective.
Also I'd say the most memorable tracks from falcom are the heavy metal tracks, but personally I really love the calmer osts in Trails game, like the field themes and a lot of the scenario themes.
I just realized this was uploaded on my birthday last year AND it just so happens to be my favorite track from one of my top 3 games of all time! Absolutely perfect!
Oh please tell me someone requested "Overcome The Rocky Path" from YS VIII cause it is one of the best field themes in any video game I've ever played and I've been playing video games for 29 years now. It is Final Fantasy Omega S Tier level amazing and I hope you get to listen to that masterpiece soon ❤
Commenting from before the premiere and I'm already super happy you're checking this song out. Honestly you should try this game out, it's a great entry point into the series. It says a lot when this is one of only like 3 games I ever bothered to get the platinum trophy for and one of the others was Nier Automata :)

Yea as others pointed out this is the first field theme here once the game proper starts. Adol (the main character) up until this point has been giddy and wistful about exploring this island and now he's on it. Hence the upbeat tone. My favorite Ys track ("the strongest foe") is also meant to convey certain feelings rather than being a song. I'm certain that one is on your request list as well so i can't wait to see what you think of that one.
yeah for me this is my favorite video game track like i just personally find it to be a perfect set of music and when i played the game the first time you hear right at the beginning after the intro and it takes you into that world right then
I think a lot of the falcom ditties also suffer from being short loops. Once you are done with the early area of this game, this song will be burned into your brain forever. And in a good way.
Once you get past the intro sequence of the game you end up on a big mysterious island and THIS is the song you get in the first regions you explore. Just pure adventure as you're setting out! There's definitely plenty of mellower music from Falcom too--you got Lyrical Amber from Cold Steel for one--but Ys especially has a ton of rock influence and you've been getting a lot of the songs that have more rock.
Very interesting. Ive never played any Ys games before, so I have no memories or sentiments attached to this song at all, yet I think its one of the most beautiful gaming songs ive ever heard. Specifically the super arranged version. Have to disagree on it having a not so strong melody as well. I think its very memorable. But yeah, always fascinating to hear what others think! Wish you listened to the super arranged version instead, as its longer and is mixed much better.

Ya it just a metal gear rising situation. Similar to Rule of Nature where it the first battle theme in the game and sorta memoriable hence why everyone requesting it.
To be fair, they did plonk this song right outside the shipwreck survivor's base camp so you do hear it a lot. It eventually lodges itself in your head while running around smacking seagull monsters and Historically Accurate Giant Enemy Crabs.
Falcom JDK never disappoints. Seriously, anything from Trails, Ys, Tokyo Xanadu or Nayuta: you know you'll be listening to fucking bangers the entire playthrough. Still to this day, this is one of my most favourite videogame tracks of all time. Ys8 is also one of my fav games of all time. I have a tattoo on my wrist of an important symbol from the game (won't say to avoid spoilers for anyone else).

Technically we have the boss music before this one when fighting the tentacle on the boat.
It's extremely refreshing after the annoying boat music lol
There's also Smash Up which plays when you fight the wolves after waking up on the shoreline.
