This video shows something I think a lot of people don't realize. There's an art to running a good demo, especially with a complex game like Kingdom Death Monster. You can know all the rules and whatnot by heart, but there's something particular about the ability to get that info across and keep it entertaining for the people playing.
Thanks! It's well worth doing the demos at Gencon if you can get there. Plus the staff all work on smaller projects. Some guys can't talk about what they work on but most of them can. The gentleman running the demo actually designed the encounter!
I like the pick-up and throw and thrown off the mountain mechanics. Not sure about the bounce recoil, but I get that this is KDM's equivalent of a wrestler.

Compared to the actual game yeah the demos are really scripted. But they have to keep them short at the con to get as many people playing as possible. The real game has so many “you’re dead” possibilities. Never roll that death die if you cannot roll tens all the time 😉
well its cool and all, but its just more like a random luck die game, isnt it. you have no real tactical choises there. just attack attack or pass your turn (when the monster is to far away) and hope for the best. hmm
There's a lot more to it, is the thing. This is more of a demo to show off combat. The gear you bring to helps tremendously, as do your decisions in both the Hunt Phase and the Civilization phase. There are also lots of fighting arts you can pick up, and mechanics related to survival points that let you dodge a hit, get extra attacks, etc. There are also things that let you look at the AI and hit locations of the monster so you can anticipate the next few cards in its deck and plan accordingly. I could really go on and on.
VoodooD0g If you ever want to try it out before you set down the cash, there's a program/game called Tabletop Simulator on Steam that you could use with some friends to demo the game. Its been pretty extensively reproduced, but from my personal experience, nothing beats sitting down face to face.

Imagine having a full demo, and finished minis, and still waiting 5 years to get this out.
The should sell this guy with each copy of KDM. It would make the game even better, if this is possible ;-)
