The S1 finale told us that Magica had a grude agains Scrooge. This episode shows the reason why that is and it's a sad/dark one. This also explains some thinks Magica did in the S1 finale like burning Scrooge's favorite treasures and wanting to kill is family in front of him.
@@rubybella1219 Yeah, just cuz you provoked someone and they want revenge doesn't make them a villain, it makes them someone who wants justice, just not always in the best manner.
this reminds me of spiderman 1. believing to be scammed by the organizer of the fights, peter does not stop the thief and his uncle ben dies because of it.
Yeah, it was clear that before they met that she was already a horrible person. Still though, if Scrooge could have helped her, she might have been as as evil as she is now.
I saw people criticize the episode because Louie didn't owe Doofus an apology, but that's not the point. It's all about Louie showing maturity and humility. Louie really never meant to cause Doofus any pain, and apologizing saved him from having to deal with a life-long enemy.
@@sadlobster1 Because Louie doesn't want to waste both of their lives in an endless rivalry, and he never wanted to hurt Doofus. He's not even excusing Doofus or anything, he even calls him an entitled monster kid during the apology.
I think people saying Louie shouldn't have to apologize to Doofus also forget/ignore the fact that Louie was never, nor did he ever intend to be, a good friend to Doofus. The only reason Louie wanted to hang out with him for the first time in The Day of The Only Child was because he wanted to indulge himself in whatever toys and experiences Doofus had to offer. He was only using him and didn't care about him as a person. Louie is being the bigger man by apologizing for his role in their relationship. He's taking ownership of it and being a mature, responsible person. Yes, Doofus is a terrible, insane person who is to blame for the vast lion's share of their rivalry, but in his eyes Louie started it by pretending to be a friend when all he wanted to do was to use him.
I like how Doofus organized an entire court trial with Scrooge's main 3 rivals all because he wanted an apology from Louie. It was honestly kinda nice when he left after getting it, because he had no personal stake anymore.
I really liked this episode. For all that Scrooge criticized Louie, he had a habit of being careless and selfish and prideful when he was just starting out. The point wasn't to punish Scrooge, it was to show his humility and prove that he changed and learned from the past. In turn, Louie also realized that having lifelong enemies wasn't worth his selfish goals. I think this episode really captured the lesson here
She treated Lena with utter disregard for her well being because she's her own shadow brought to life; as such, she viewed Lena as a lesser creature. Lena is essentially if the character, Magica's Shadow, from the original Ducktales was reimagined for a gothic fanfic. Lena's entire struggle to not let her connection to Magica dictate who she is can be summed up in one quote by the original Magica's Shadow: _I am my own person now; I don't need any blob of flesh to give me strength anymore!_
@Isabel Brokaw Frank and Matt did say in an interview saying that this isn’t the last time we’ll see their version of the characters. And Bobby Moynihan did state on Twitter the possibility of DuckTales returning on Disney+ for another movie.
@@christophercervantes5753 It'd be interesting to see Scrooge try to help Magica find her brother since he knows what it's like to lose a family memeber.
Am I the only only one who got the feeling Lena is Poe's reincarnation? She's the literal embodiment of half of Magica's magic, she refers to her as "aunt" Magica, not "mom", further linking her with the latter, and their hair look eerily similar once she transforms into her "blue/light mage" form. Hell, Webby is to Lena what Magica was to Poe, an impulsive, somewhat naive and inexperienced, younger sibling figure. There's a redemption arc for Magica hidden in there, regardless of whether or not she actually deserves it.
I ADORE the way this episode showcases a darker side of Scrooge. It feels very remmenissent of the comic "The Empire Builder from Calisota", where at his lowest point Scrooge burns down an African village, causing a witch doctor to curse him with being eternally chased by Bombi. It's a truly dark scene of the mistakes of Scrooge's life, and i'm glad something like this could be represented in the new DuckTales.
@@theshadygentleman7575 Yeah, though the Bombi never targeted Scrooge for the sake of targeting Scrooge. It targeted the richest person in the world whenever they didn't show enough humility. So there are some outside similarities, but the show's version didn't have the "punish Scrooge for a crime against humanity" core story element.
This isn't the first time. His cynism and bitterness can be shown in the series. Remember during 'How Santa stole Christmas' when he gave out coal to everyone because he thought it was practical? It may have been during your day, you cracked curmudgeonly Caledonian (see how I used his alliteration there), but now it's now no more than the dirtiest fossil fuel and symbol of punishment for bad behavior. And how dare he try to push Santa's idea down just because it wasn't profitable. Is there no wonder Santa backed out of the deal? Granted he did have a point about Christmas losing its spiritual touch to crass commercialization and lack of practicality of the toys, but the coal was no better and training kids to hate the world's one and only truly selfless being just because he decided to stay true to himself was so wrong, I hardly know when to begin. Still not thinking about coming onto all his enemy's side, though
@@flynnwhimster5371 I agree that this has been explored before, but not to this extent. Also there he genuenly tried to do what was best, while here he is a cold jerk just for the sake of it.
After losing della in the spear of selene incident, I wonder if scrooge thought for a moment it was a twisted form of karma. Twins he loved, one lost and the other turning his back on him, after he played a part in magica losing her twin brother. Just a thought
Even if it did feel quick/slightly rushed, I’m glad they didn’t go the route of Scrooge losing his fortune, It would feel kind of repetitive of the Glomtales arc.
Actually, it kind of does, except it was Doofus' idea and the plan only went wrong because of Louie's humility and logic, instead of Glomgold's stupidity, regardless of what Ma Beagle had thought
It was nice to see Doofus in a strait jacket because he's a psychopath even if he thought it would be fun. This episode makes you really feel for Magica. I love that they may have been evil but still loved each other with Poe taking the hit for Magica and Magica was even willing to sacrifice her magic if Scrooge would only stop Poe from flying away so she could find a way to turn him back. Honestly you can't blame Magica for hating Scrooge as much as she does. I hope Magica finds her brother one day. No matter what people say, she didn't deserved to lose her brother like that.
I don't think this episode was ever going to end any other way. At worst, this episode was just a quick way to wrap up the storylines of four villains that wouldn't be touched on any other way. But Scrooge losing his entire fortune to a villain and Magica getting his Number 1 dime? That could never happen, at least in any lasting manner, even just bridging one episode. However, seeing Ma Beagle temporarily reclaiming the Duckberg deed could be an interesting story.
yeah plus the plots rather simple scrooge and louie go to court face there past sins and try to make prace with apologizing and by the end they learn the the lesson of taking responsibility im thankful the story doesn't require much to analyze cuz im reviewing it today
No, season 5. There's been some serious Webby set up that feels like it would have payed off in the theoretical season 4, with this feeling like a seed that needs longer to grow
@@3oct1111 i think webby had plenty of screen time in the first season if there was gonna be a 4th and 5th season i always thought those would focus more on scrooge and donald
I thought the triplets' father, Black Heron, Rockerduck, Magica, Khan Entreprises (well, they did use Tailspin references throughout the show as well as introduce characters in episode 20 OF SEASON 3), Bulba, Negaduck, Dr. Akita, a disgraced McDuck relative or a rival clan to it would have been the villain, but Poe is a good option and I'm not just saying this because I love it when I hear Martin Freeman's voice. He was a sensible, straightforward villain that would have done well in FOWL if the Phantom Blot wasn't part of it.
I also think the whole Beagle Family would be a great option. They might finally win and briefly own Duckberg, now back to be called Beagleberg and Glomgold could save the day, like in the season 2 finale
Also forgot Lunaris, I would love him to return and have a melodramatic faceoff against Scrooge, Della, Donald, Penumbra, and Darkwing, who would join to have his moment of glory once and for all. It would start with Della and Penumbra showing their shock at his betrayal of their trust.
Well, it is. But isn't. Disney recently announced that their youtube channel is going to have a podcast done with the current cast called This Duckburg Life hosted by Huey once it's all over.
A somewhat wonky ending aside I like this episode, and especially the fact that they don’t give Scrooge an out for what happened with Magica. No trick, no “I was always hoping to get rid of my brother anyway,” nothing. Scrooge tricked Magica into cursing her own family, and beyond not helping he gloated about it. While it doesn’t absolve her of her own sins it justifies why she hates Scrooge as much as she does.
Yeah it's just a shame he never had to pay for it. He apologizes only after being caught by the court, and actual punishment get's immediately reversed cause the shows ending. -_-
@@Steven9567 Tell that to the village people whose money he took and the farm he forced them to work at to get him money for their milk. Capitalism~ :P
@@MrGabeanator Might as well take inspiration from the best. I think Ducktales nailed the concept and theme better too, but that's probably because they spent more time on the trial part.
DuckTales series finale may be coming, but there’s a DuckTales podcast called “This Duckburg Life” hosted Huey Duck, voiced once again by Danny Pudi. And Bobby Moynihan commented on his Twitter page saying DuckTales may possibly return for another movie on Disney+. Thought you’d like to know.
Maybe it can come back for a movie or special someday, Phineas and Ferb ended in 2015 and got a new movie for disney plus last year, so I can see the same happening for Ducktales
I feel like her trauma around loosing her brother, and the amulet being his originally, all contribute to why Lena is Magica’s niece and not her daughter.
Even if I do feel a penny sized bit of sympathy for Magica, where's the sympathy for those poor villagers she and Poe cursed? If they hadn't been so evil in the first place, Scrooge wouldn't have crossed their path. It's just plain karma.
Did you miss the point that don't even Scrooge showed sympathy for the villagers? I mean I don't blame even the episode forgets about that, and just focus on what he did to the villians
@@darkalicornkingdoom3572 Yes, that was more messed up then what je did to villains. I mean I did feel a BIT bad for magica but her and Poe weren't exactly nice or good people (not even kind of decent people). But the part about the villagers...damn I wish someone adressed it (I mean Louie kind of did, but there was very little overall emphasis on it) I get why, you don't want to make your protagonist unlikeable in one of the last episodes. And exploiting poor people is much more unlikeable then just kind of screwing over a tyrant. But I'm still salty about it.
@@elenanojkovic2554 my impression was that Scrooge had no means of turning them back. As for profiting off selling the milk, well the farm did need some means of keeping itself going. Still a jerk move of course.
This episode walks the line between showing a character’s flaws and artificially making a character act out of character to further the plot, but I think it does the former well here. 👏 a round of applause to the writers
Oh man, imagine a 4th season. If this episode was meant to end with Scrooge losing, then the season finale would've been far more satisfying. And there would have been a more solid and satisfying 4th season send off. But I'm just gonna say, I legit felt sorry for Magica. She was pleading & promising anything to get Poe back
Louie had pretty much fallen off my list of favorite characters after the Timephoon episode, but this one put him back on top. Helping Scrooge defend his honor, apologizing to Doofus, and finally accepting responsibility for any pain he inadvertently caused Doofus. It shows how much he's grown since the first season.
I really wish the series at least had one more episode if only to make this episode the full double sized length it should have been. It feels like this episode was made because they knew they weren't getting a season four, and they definitely planned on this sort of episode being that season's penultimate episode. The ending did feel rushed, but not nearly as rushed as some other recently canned shows. I'm glad that we at least got some history with Scrooge McDuck and the Beagles, which is something I'll admit the series was unfortunately light on. Also getting a bit of what Magica and a younger, and more arrogant Scrooge story would be like. I was surprised it didn't end with her being held prisoner in the dime. Seeing how much pain and shame he felt when Magica was telling her story about her lost brother really recontextualizes how he blames himself for Della's disappearance and how insane he went trying to find her. He saw it happen to one of his enemies, and he then saw it happen to him and Donald. It was his second chance to save a lost family member. And Poe is TOTALLY going to be a favorite character among a certain portion of the fanbase. Can't say I don't blame them.
That lilt money clip Duke Baloney stole was two million dollars? If that's true then Scrooge must've learned not to keep so much cash on his person from then on.
I think the ending would've worked a little better if the court had asked Louie and Scrooge if they had any last argument to make before judgement was made.
Frank said that all 3 seasons were secretly about Webby. So I don’t think that they were planning on having season 4 focus on her, but that’s probably what they would’ve ended up doing if the show had gotten renewed again.
I think this episode is a good conclusion on Glomgold, Ma Beagle, and Despell. I especially like how it showed us parts of Ma Beagle and Despell’s history with Scrooge, since that wasn’t really covered too much in depth. Also the Glomgold-shark backstory was pretty fun too. Also looking at the past 3 episodes, we have a Huey episode (Beaks in a Shell), a Dewey episode (Kit Cloudkicker), and now a Louie episode. If it was intentional to make the last 3 episodes before the finale a Huey, Dewey, and Louie episode respectively, that’s pretty cool.
If Scrooge was going to lose the trial I think it might have been a secret test of character to see how Scrooge handles losing everything and how the villains act now that they have won. My guess is if there was another season would have had a Scrooge to earn back his fortune only for Magica, Glomgold, and Ma Beagle to still antagonize him and abuse their new power. At the end the trial would be revealed to still be going and show Scrooge really won because his change of heart was true while the villains would lose since regardless of any outcome or even when they have everything they want they are still the villains thus Scrooge isn’t truly at fault for how bad they turned out. It is acts as a deconstruction of the whole the hero/protagonist wronged their villain/antagonist and blame them for everything bad they do and being unable to accept responsibility of their own actions.
I thought this episode was going to be almost 30 Rock-esque, where Hazel's lawsuit caused the cancellation of TGS, but allowed one last episode. Scrooge being found guilty, and thus losing his fortune, would end his adventuring career except for the one last adventure he could scrounge funding for, thus "The Last Adventure!" series finale
The most important moment in this whole episode is when Louie asks Scrooge if he returned the treasure to the town and then says he's not sure if they even have any right to argue against Magica's accusation. This shows that he has grown so much over the 3 seasons. He automatically knows what the right thing for Scrooge to have done was and recognizes how wrong Scrooge's actual actions are. This is the moment when you know Louie is gonna be fine when he grows up, despite all his cash-hungry enterprise. He's grown a solid moral compass.
There's two major things I really admire about this episode: 1) The fact that they brought some more characters from the original "Ducktales," in this case Webra Walter and Poe de Spell, and 2) how they delved into the unpleasant side of Scrooge's past. Magica's part really got to me considering what happened to her brother, and how genuinely heartbroken she was about those circumstances. As for your theory on this possibly originally being a lead-in to another season, I can kind of see that. It would've been kind of interesting to see how Scrooge would handle not being rich anymore, and maybe other characters like Donald could've helped show him what to do in the meantime. Plus, it would've cool to see what Glomgold, Ma Beagle, and Magica's plans were if they won the court case. With all that out of the way, let's brace ourselves for 'The Last Adventure.'
To be fair the apology thing is unfortunately true in real life court cases as well. It's frustrating as it means you can make things right on a personal level without fearing criminal prosecution.
It does put some context for Lena though. Yes, Magica literally lived vicariously through her own creation and treated Lena like garbage the second she was of no more use. There is no excuse for that. But that Magica refers to Lena as her niece, rather than daughter, might imply that she wanted to have semblance of her brother close to her. Probably why she wanted the amulet so bad too.
Yeah we see that she combined the magical strengths of her and Poe’s amulets into her staff, makes sense that she would desperately want to keep the only thing she has of Poe left with her (on top of wanting her powers back of course)
It's terrible that season 3 is this show's series finale. A lot of doors are left open for possible ideas for new stories and character developement. I'd say Disney's getting a bit too greedy and are rushing the writers to end this wonderful reboot. Corprate companies can be clammering cash cows.
personally i just feel like this episode should have been placed before the other 2 we got recently, just because in they had story progression and they usually have the episode before the finale lead into it.
If Tony Stark was still alive, he would be on trial by the Sinister Six for creating them, especially the Vulture and Mysterio. They also brought Spiderman as an example of his.
Why did I want this review as soon as the episode came out? Guess it just one of those episodes that is just as much fun in a review as it is seeing it by yourself
got to this episode before the next big thing nice! This episode really makes scrooge morally grey and how we could've gotten more villain development per each season. also the juror is voiced by the fonz fun fact. we easily could've gotten episodes centered around glomgold's turn into a villain morose than just the ballad of duke baloney. ma beagle only alluded to the deed of duckberg up until now. magica i feel needed the most development outside of the shadow war. we got the phantom and the sorceress which gave her some backstory with this episode
They replaced Scrooge's attack of the native villagers in Africa for their land with the exploitation of victims of the DeSpells. It's kind of genius, because even though Scrooge didn't engage in violence, his antipathy was just as vile. Maybe even worse. If Scrooge's scruples had been engaged, he would've agreed to help Magica catch Poe on the condition that they undo all the damage they'd done and change the villagers back. But as it stands, Scrooge exploited trauma victims for his own gains. That part of his fortune was NOT earned square. And at least Bombie was a consequence of his actions in the comics. In this version, Scrooge seems to get away without any consequence.
What if it’s a fail-safe episode, because of when it was written that staff didn’t know if there was going to be a season four or not? If the budget for this show had some extra money than it’s possible that it could have continued, but if the budget for it ran out after the third season than it would make sense for the way this episode ends. Also I believe that they were trying to bait us with this episode for whatever they have planed for the finale.
If someone else doesn't write this fanfiction, I might have to. Scrooge loosing everything, and then he and his family winning it all back is too good of an idea to leave behind!
thank you for your words. I took that ep at face value (so many shows as you said deal with the subject). that been said, I think something should be added: another way to look at the end of the ep is the lesson that apologizing won't necessarily make things better to the other side nor your situation. I think it adds more maturity to the ep
I wish we knew Poe's final fate. I would pay any price to see Poe restored to his anthro duck form. I'd like to see Poe back to anthro duck form in a DT2017 video game continuation. The episode should ended with this quote: "What are you gonna do when you face off with F.O.W.L.?"
I like the idea of the 'true' season finale ending with Scrooge and family having to get back his fortune, land, and dime and exactly how that would pan out in each respective case. The land would probably be easy, I can see the city of Duckberg quickly revolting under the Beagle's rule. And perhaps the Beagle's learning a (short-lived) lesson in compassion, with the three main Beagle Boys going against Ma's wishes in giving the deed back to Scrooge. The fortune probably wouldn't be that hard either. As while Scrooge wouldn't be rich, he'd be more focused on rebuilding his wealth through hard-work, than feuding with Glomgold. I can see Glomgold goading him, "How's it feel Scrooge? To be the POOREST DUCK IN THE WORLD? AHAHAHA." "Good afternoon Mr. Glomgold, I hope that you're doing well. Apologies if I can't spare time for our usual chats, but I'm a bit busy you see. In any case, best of luck with your financial endeavors." "What. What are you up to Scrooge?" "Nothing Mr. Glomgold. Just work. Good old-fashioned hard work. Tah!" I feel like the Number One Dime might have been the hardest to come by, but possibly would have ended with Scrooge scouring the globe to find Poe, and reuniting him with Magica. Not in exchange for the dime. But because it was the right thing to do. Perhaps Poe could touch the dime and regain his intellect, but wouldn't be able to change back so long as the dime was nearby, prompting Magica to return it. If knowing that a fourth season was confirmed, the Missing Mysteries could have taken a backburner till then.
I liked how this episode included Poe. But one thing that bother me is how we're suppose to feel sorry for him and Magica after they turned who knows how many people into animals and likely stayed that way forever. She and Poe got what they deserved.
If you think about it, reverse that last moment and you have a great stepping off point for a "what if" continuation that coukd be a movie or a whole season leading to a moment resulting in the end of that episide and the status quo timeline picking up to what we are sbout to see Monday
Whether or not things were changed at the last minute, I imagine it probably didn't affect how this episode was meant to end particularly, imho. The current series has been pretty good at very quickly switching things back to status quo whenever it seems Scrooge has been stripped of everything, so I doubt this would have led to a multi-episode arc. Heck, the bet between Scrooge and Glomgold on a quest contest that would decide who would get whose fortune feels like it was forgotten about after it was introduced, so I don't think we're missing out an a grand story storyline here.
Magica and including Poe kinda tortured a town's folks but that one moment when she tries to get his brother I feel bad for her, although Scrooge McDuck didn't bring back the town's money and just sold it...tho he improved as a person in other flashbacks
David Tennant was the Doctor Catherine Tate was Donna.. Besides nostalgia you gotta LOVE how these two actors work together and cooperate after so many years
Loved this episode. I think we saw the beginning of doofus becoming better and there’s a bigger lesson. You are the only one responsible for how you act and treat others.
So random may not be connected theory....since Magica had a brother and now possess his magic after sacrificing himself to protect his sister and was turned into a crow. Does that mean that Leena is the daughter of Poe? Born from his part of the magic since Leena calls Magica her aunt and Magica has a brother that would mean that Poe could be Leena's father due to his half of the magic that Magica now has.
There are parts that still bothered me. Specifically about Glomgold and Ma Beagle. Ma Beagle claimed that the city was originally called "Beaglesburg", but Scrooge took it away and changed it to "Duckburg". And also, Duke became Glomgold, because Scrooge underpaid him. In real life, underpaid workers were very prevalant under capitalism. And many people still struggle to make a living wage even after working hard. People in poverty can't just work as hard as Scrooge had. It's a lot more complicated and a lot more depressing than what capitalists tend to make it sound like. And also, there's been histories of lands being taken or stolen by colonialists through means of genocide or other horrendous means. And it saddens me that Ducktales just glosses over them and acts like they're a non-issue because "Scrooge is a altruist capitalist!" but is he really?
Speaking about overthinking everything. I wonder if Po, was meant to here in season four either as a new villain or a new ally, maybe as a Positive Member of Lena’s family, I mean it could of been a plot point with the whole Lena being introduced as Magica’s niece at one point in time.(despite being her shadow)
The problem I think Scrooge did with Magica was while she was before bad but she was limited to one village and after this she made more global problems
Tbh i still wish that it didn't end in 3 seasons, i think it should have at least 4, and by the way this ended, it really felt like it was changed when they were told it was getting canceled, like how they built up Della at the start, but didn't finish that arc until season 2, so starting F.O.W.L. in season 2 and ending it in a 4th season, more focusing on Webby and maybe Beakley, I do think she is/was hiding something more from Webby, and that could have been explored more if it wasn't canceled, like how they were setting up Beakley's lie at the end of The Lost Harp of Mervana! and others I think, but that is what I think
great review but you forgot to mention about how the reporter in the globgold part was in a few episodes from the 80s show as well it was atleast worth a say but great job as always
Speaking of legacy Webbwa Walters was the news anchor for the 80's DuckTales and in case you're too young to know a parody of real life anchor Barbara Walters who had a slight speech impediment at the time that got poked fun at often. Also Poe was Magica's familiar though I think he was just a talking Raven with no backstory.
I agree that if season 3 wasn’t the last season. You could said that seasons 1-2 focus on the missing relative of The Duck Family: Della Duck while seasons 3-4 could have focus on Webby’s family a bit more.
When I first heard of this episode, I half expected Bradford to become a witness. The question is...if that DID happen, how would that judge creature respond to all of Bradford's claims or how would the judge respond to him being a super villain team leader
That does make sense since Freeman is under contract with Disney due to the Marvelous stuff as a Cookson stand in ( though Jimmy Woods seems to fill that role better) so might as well use him while you have him.
I'm pretty sure that if this wasn't going to be the last season, The Karma Court would have ruled that Scroouge would have kept everything except the dime which would go to Magica as she was the only one who had a real 'case' against him. That way, Scrooge would loose something, but would use it as a lesson for Louie so that he could understand that action has consequence and that sometimes you have to pay for your mistakes. this would also make it so that Poe could come back, Lena helps Magica find him, Lena and Magica could make amends (somewhat), and Magica could be redeemed? (It's Disney doing it because redeeming villains is a trend in children's shows).
This reminds me of the BTAS episode in which the villains takeover Arkham and force Batman to participate in a trial in which they try to prove that they wouldn't exist if it weren't for Batman.
My hunch is that the finale will have FOWL get their hands on the Papyrus of Binding, and use it to reverse this decision. This would lead to Scrooge's wealth to a man who will squander it, the town to a criminal who would ruin it, and his artifacts to someone FOWL thinks they can best, with unforeseen consequences. Xiaolin Showdown and Jackie Chan Adventures pulled similar season and series finales back in the day, and it might work towards the thus far missing Ducktales plot of seeing what an alternate future is like
Kind of unexpected to be honest. I thought this was the kind of episode where the family would do their last preparation in order to face F.O.W.L. But on the other hand it was cool to see the story behind the more "classic villains" of the franchise. I'm curious for the final and looking forward for it. Thanks for a great review once again.
I mean we do get a three part finale, makes sense they wanted to step back and try to focus a bit more on the classic main villains in the last few episodes, show how Beaks is no longer seen as the trendy tech genius he was presented as in Season 1 and is finally getting what he deserves, we get a nice lil connection for Don Karnage to be in the finale, Louie makes peace with Doofus, and we get some nice backstory for Glomgold, where we see how they interacted like earlier on in their rivalry and why he holds a special place in his heart for sharks, Ma Beagle, where we finally see how Scrooge “swindled” the deed from Pa Beagle and how Ma became the boss, and Magica, where we finally see why she holds a specific grudge to Scrooge of all people and where Poe has been all this time
This was honestly one of the episode that stick out to me and a moral of don't just leave people that you don't like or it will just be an endless rivalry Also i find it kinda funny how doofus just yeet out of the court
I just had the idea that maybe Majica’s love for her twin brother is what made her decide to call Lena her niece rather than her daughter even though the latter terminology could be argued
It's true shame this episode is show to us only now, when the series is finished. It would be so good to focuse on this arc, add to Lena development or even have perfect occasion to intoduce Minima.I also wanted more for Doofus and Louie and see them as friends. My brother also point out, that Magica culd need his dime to find and turn Poe back into the duck hence her obssesion of getitng it for herself.
@jf k of course she was, that's was confirmed a long tme ago, but since she turn out to be Magica's shadow, this could be so cool to see more Poe and revile he had a daughter. Maybe even Magica didn't know about her. fanfics write themselfs with this magical duck family :)
as much as louie should've apologized to doofus to not have a nemesis, i'd say he and the others brought their misfortunes to themselves glomgold left the reporters to die and even he got the ruby, he would spend it in something stupid to boost his ego like a 5 stories tall statue of himself scrooge won the deed fair and square and any other than scrooge would have outsmarted them magica deserve losing her brother for hijacking the kingdom and turning that guy in a goat and poe enabled her to do it, scrooge was defending himself at this point doofus should've be in psychiatrist and/or military school, he go to therapist in military school
This episode provides a good example of, regardless of how Scrooge's values have changed, there's one core tenet he's always held: fairness. Traditionally, Scrooge wasn't known for being nice or morally right; but he always prided himself on the fact that he earned every bit of his wealth fair and square, or legally at the very least. In his mind, people are due what they deserve. Scrooge was arrogant and greedy, but his enemies were arrogant, greedy, dishonest, AND sadistic. Still, there's no denying that Scrooge's arrogance led him to going overboard. He left Glomgold out in the middle of the ocean on a pile of rocks surrounded by Sharks where he could have died from starvation or pneumonia, leading him to his infamous obsession with Sharks. After beating Pappy Beagle at arm wrestling and exposing him as a cheater; he needlessly rubbed his victory in Lil' Ma's face, prompting her to step up and lead the Beagle family to become bigger criminals. As for Magica, even if one was to argue that Scrooge wasn't obligated to help Magica recover her brother; Scrooge took advantage of her impulsive nature by mocking her for her reliance on family (her brother), which prompted her to fire the blast that ended up turning Poe into a raven. This may have influenced her treatment of Lena, if not solely because she was her shadow; but I feel this is why Scrooge ended up feeling regret for his lack of sympathy of Magica. He belittle her value of family, a value that he himself would later learn to appreciate; and now that he valued family more than ever, he regrets merely saying something like that.
The S1 finale told us that Magica had a grude agains Scrooge. This episode shows the reason why that is and it's a sad/dark one.
This also explains some thinks Magica did in the S1 finale like burning Scrooge's favorite treasures and wanting to kill is family in front of him.
Yes :(
With Magica, Scrooge didn't make a villain, he made an ENEMY.
Exactly she was already a horrible person he just did something wrong to her but he is not the cause of her being a bad person.
@@rubybella1219 Yeah, just cuz you provoked someone and they want revenge doesn't make them a villain, it makes them someone who wants justice, just not always in the best manner.
Justice isn't revenge.
this reminds me of spiderman 1. believing to be scammed by the organizer of the fights, peter does not stop the thief and his uncle ben dies because of it.
Still, Doofus is a rotten kid; why should HE be given an apologie
It's nice to know that Louie still has some humanity and maturity with him. oTHERWISE, the next generation of Duckbergers would be in real trouble
@@sadlobster1 Because Louie doesn't want to waste both of their lives in an endless rivalry, and he never wanted to hurt Doofus.
He's not even excusing Doofus or anything, he even calls him an entitled monster kid during the apology.
@@matti.8465 That IS a good point, life's too short to have enemies.
A pity that the rest of the villains can't understand that
I think people saying Louie shouldn't have to apologize to Doofus also forget/ignore the fact that Louie was never, nor did he ever intend to be, a good friend to Doofus.
I've always had a headcanon that Louie would go on to become a lawyer as am adult. This episode only strengthens that headcanon.
Sweet
That or politics
Its a good head canon! Louie the Lawyer, Dewie the Pilot( oh man Launch pad should be proud!).
But now that leaves Hewie...
@Lowell Lucas Jr. Huey the martial artist!
@jf k here's hoping. It'll be the finale after all
I like how Doofus organized an entire court trial with Scrooge's main 3 rivals all because he wanted an apology from Louie.
I think this episode really captured the lesson here
Magica's loss could be the reason she treated Lena the way she did. She would have difficult having another relationship with a family member.
Also since she lost her brother and not her husband that might be why Lena is her niece not her daughter
I'm still gonna want more Ducktales after the finale. It would've been interesting to see more of Poe and Magica's dynamic.
There is going to be an in character podcast called “This Duckburg Life” later this month, with the cast reprising their roles.
@@tompotter8703 I'll probably watch it. If they end up making an epilogue comic like Avatar: The Last Airbender I'm SO buying it!
@Isabel Brokaw Frank and Matt did say in an interview saying that this isn’t the last time we’ll see their version of the characters. And Bobby Moynihan did state on Twitter the possibility of DuckTales returning on Disney+ for another movie.
My thoughts exactly! This could have been the lead in for a fourth season!
@@christophercervantes5753 It'd be interesting to see Scrooge try to help Magica find her brother since he knows what it's like to lose a family memeber.
maybe Lena calls Magica her aunt because she's actually part of Poe's magic. guess we'll never know.
What do you think would have happened if she told Lena that her vendetta against Scrooge was personal.
I think that was an episode in season 2
@@foxymetroid Well, in the comics Bombi was very different. He was changed for the show to avoid outdated negative stereotypes.
The Glomtales arc itself is based off of the 'Catch as Cash Can' arc from the original Ducktales.
@@flynnwhimster5371 Well....i cant help but think that Ma Beagle will exclude Glomgold for the next teamup.
In the original series she temporarily got his fortune and home.
@@nl396 And he got it back by the end of the episode. By "long term", I mean spanning more than one episode.
Does anyone else think Magica’s brother would have been the main villain of season 4 if the show was never canceled?
The sad part is even Poe realised it was a trick by Scrooge and Magica simply didn't listen to him.
Yeah it's just a shame he never had to pay for it. He apologizes only after being caught by the court, and actual punishment get's immediately reversed cause the shows ending. -_-

Oh yeah baby
And who knows? Maybe it’ll even get a sequel or 2.
Maybe it can come back for a movie or special someday, Phineas and Ferb ended in 2015 and got a new movie for disney plus last year, so I can see the same happening for Ducktales
@Crystal Hampton. Exactly! How long it’ll take though will probably vary. But it’s bound to happen regardless.
But the part about the villagers...damn I wish someone adressed it (I mean Louie kind of did, but there was very little overall emphasis on it)
I get why, you don't want to make your protagonist unlikeable in one of the last episodes.
Scrooge still could have saved Poe!
He choose cruel to Magica!
You know what speaking of which, I think I am starting to understand why Lena called Magica her auntie. Lena came from Poe’s magic.
I still can't believe the last episode is here. I'm going to be an emotional wreck. 😢😭

@@shanryder oh yeah

Exactly! I might have been a good chance for Magica de Spell to reflect and change and eventually change the villagers back.
He's grown a solid moral compass.
yeah but we might of gotten a s4 with a different outcome
The only problem with that is Magica doesn't know how to change people back
@@maldon3659 No, but Poe did, and Magica hoped that Poe would be able to change himself back. Scrooge could've at least tried.
Poe turned into a raven. A reference to Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven"?
DeSpell has had a raven named Poe since her inception in the comics decades ago, and yes its an Edgar Allan reference.
OMG so hyped for the finale!!!
I wish we knew Poe's final fate.
I would pay any price to see Poe restored to his anthro duck form.
I'd like to see Poe back to anthro duck form in a DT2017 video game continuation.
The episode should ended with this quote:
"What are you gonna do when you face off with F.O.W.L.?"
The security guard dog, is clearly Anubis...and the Court is a version of Anubis' court in Egyptian mythology.
I’m definitely going to cry when this show ends
same
Ditto 😪😪😪
So if Magica created Lena to be her “niece” does that mean Poe is the “Dad”?
Also, it was cold how he turned Magica against her brother when family is so important to him!
AHAHAHA."
"Good afternoon Mr. Glomgold, I hope that you're doing well. Apologies if I can't spare time for our usual chats, but I'm a bit busy you see. In any case, best of luck with your financial endeavors."
"What. What are you up to Scrooge?"
"Nothing Mr. Glomgold. Just work. Good old-fashioned hard work. Tah!"
I feel like the Number One Dime might have been the hardest to come by, but possibly would have ended with Scrooge scouring the globe to find Poe, and reuniting him with Magica.
The teaser trailers for the finale pretty much reveled on the biggest secrets of the whole show, or so it looks like.

This episode also showed off the lesson that Louie learned from the Bombie. Humility.
Magica and including Poe kinda tortured a town's folks but that one moment when she tries to get his brother I feel bad for her, although Scrooge McDuck didn't bring back the town's money and just sold it...tho he improved as a person in other flashbacks

In this episode, Louie Duck was like a Kid Duck version of Phoenix, Wright Ace Attorney.
I loved how the wrapped up doofises character in this
There are parts that still bothered me.
I wonder if Po, was meant to here in season four either as a new villain or a new ally,
maybe as a Positive Member of Lena’s family,
I mean it could of been a plot point with the whole Lena being introduced as Magica’s niece at one point in time.(despite being her shadow)
The problem I think Scrooge did with Magica was while she was before bad but she was limited to one village and after this she made more global problems
Tbh i still wish that it didn't end in 3 seasons, i think it should have at least 4, and by the way this ended, it really felt like it was changed when they were told it was getting canceled, like how they built up Della at the start, but didn't finish that arc until season 2, so starting F.O.W.L. in season 2 and ending it in a 4th season, more focusing on Webby and maybe Beakley, I do think she is/was hiding something more from Webby, and that could have been explored more if it wasn't canceled, like how they were setting up Beakley's lie at the end of The Lost Harp of Mervana!
and others I think, but that is what I think
as he said when you rack up enough enemies you have to wonder if you might be part of the problem
great review but you forgot to mention about how the reporter in the globgold part was in a few episodes from the 80s show as well it was atleast worth a say but great job as always
If I remember reading correctly, Poe was still her brother in the original Ducktales.
I agree that if season 3 wasn’t the last season. You could said that seasons 1-2 focus on the missing relative of The Duck Family: Della Duck while seasons 3-4 could have focus on Webby’s family a bit more.
Mentions a season 4.
Me: TIME FOR FANFICTION! that im not going to write.
Aww and i was looking forward to reading some.
When I first heard of this episode, I half expected Bradford to become a witness.
The question is...if that DID happen, how would that judge creature respond to all of Bradford's claims or how would the judge respond to him being a super villain team leader
I mean like The First Adventure! showed, Scrooge never really was the reason for F.O.W.L’s creation, but ultimately became its biggest threat
Poe was played by the Younger Bilbo Baggins from the Hobbit movies! Though evil, I really liked his character!
I mean we do get a three part finale, makes sense they wanted to step back and try to focus a bit more on the classic main villains in the last few episodes, show how Beaks is no longer seen as the trendy tech genius he was presented as in Season 1 and is finally getting what he deserves, we get a nice lil connection for Don Karnage to be in the finale, Louie makes peace with Doofus, and we get some nice backstory for Glomgold, where we see how they interacted like earlier on in their rivalry and why he holds a special place in his heart for sharks, Ma Beagle, where we finally see how Scrooge “swindled” the deed from Pa Beagle and how Ma became the boss, and Magica, where we finally see why she holds a specific grudge to Scrooge of all people and where Poe has been all this time
7:12 “I missed the part where that’s my problem.”
This was honestly one of the episode that stick out to me and a moral of don't just leave people that you don't like or it will just be an endless rivalry
Also i find it kinda funny how doofus just yeet out of the court
I just had the idea that maybe Majica’s love for her twin brother is what made her decide to call Lena her niece rather than her daughter even though the latter terminology could be argued
This was the "Lawful Neutral is dumb" episode.
I was really hoping for 5 seasons. Sad ending in 3. Going to miss it.
I think you might be right, they pulled Louie's argument out of thin air, it seems. That felt like the prelude to an epic showdown.
Maybe even Magica didn't know about her. fanfics write themselfs with this magical duck family :)
as much as louie should've apologized to doofus to not have a nemesis, i'd say he and the others brought their misfortunes to themselves
glomgold left the reporters to die and even he got the ruby, he would spend it in something stupid to boost his ego like a 5 stories tall statue of himself
scrooge won the deed fair and square and any other than scrooge would have outsmarted them
magica deserve losing her brother for hijacking the kingdom and turning that guy in a goat and poe enabled her to do it, scrooge was defending himself
at this point doofus should've be in psychiatrist and/or military school, he go to therapist in military school
Poe is actually set to appear in the next/last episode.
@Sci Fi & Fantasy Lover And so as Ma Beagle. I wonder if Glomgold will appear as well ?
Am I the only one who was reminded of the Y-twins from Streets of Rage 4 when I saw Poe & Magica DeSpell ruling their kingdom?
I can’t wait to see your take on series finale mind blown
I miss Poe 😢
