I've been going through a rough year. Dusting off my Feist and Ron Sexsmith CDs has really helped me to remember that there is still real beauty in the world and people to admire.
I think the reason I love watching this clip in particular so many hundreds of times is that there’s a “Marty McFly playing Johnny B Good” factor going on here. A bunch of British fans are hearing Ron for the first time and he blows the other two out of the water.
im 12 and i think this is absolutely brilliant; i guarantee u if this song came out by paul mccartney, E.L.O, or the Eagles this would be a top 5 hit keep it up ron
I'm a major McCartney fan and I just realized why I liked this guy(Ron Sexsmith so much). You're so right about them sounding alot alike. I never noticed it before.
Geez he's just so good. I first heard him about 15 years ago on some Canadian music program. He gets better with every song. This one is especially good.
Haha, thats not what I meant. Even the best bands/solo performers do not typically have one straight acoustic guitar. Even when they are not singing they use all sorts of trickery like echo/delay, shitloads of compression/eq so the guitar doesnt really sound acoustic anymore, and extra filler tracks to thicken the sound. Ron manages to provide rock solid rhythm driving the song, melodic picking.. all whilst singing. So many performers famous for being guitar virtuosos would fail miserably at this.
I love this. But -- you've never heard James Taylor? Joni Mitchell? Bruce Cockburn? (couple more Canadians, notice here..) N.Young? There are more than a handful, and 'guitar virtuosity' has nothing whatever to do with it! But I repeat, I love this, and I LOVE Ron Sexsmith. Superb. ~

@@BrianthatiscalledBrian I know Chris Martin came out on stage during his set and sang with him.. but not sure what song? Being that it was my first time seeing him 🙂🤷
Miche....Dylan is the biggest overrated faker ever unleashed on mankind. Lyrics make no sense (by design)..nobel prize for poetry ??? Dylan uses clever wordplay that goes nowhere. Ron is just clever enough to get the message across.
The older guy is Graham Gouldman of 10CC fame (he wrote "Things We Do For Love"). Gouldman became on of the two main guys in 10CC after Lol Creme and Kevin Godley left 10CC in 1974/5.
Love this song...but correct Me...I swear if I close My eyes I hear a hint of Paul McCartney...I swear it would be a song he would sing...just a thought.
If Ron were to keep producing records with a band in e background, he should look to the Roy Orbison sound. Timpani, real live horns, back up singers, back up acoustic but not what he has now. The band just doesn't work. Ron is a solo artist.
Have a listen to Bus Stop by The Hollies, Heartful of Soul by The Yardbirds....Graham Gouldman has nothing to prove to anyone as a songwriter. Ron is very very good. Gouldman has a string of hits with some massive artists....
The most underrated artist of our generation
Highly rated ☝️😊
I remember watching this back then, great stuff
This man is a genius with melodies....and lyrics..
This is an amazing song. One of the most underrated songwriters. Gives me the chills. Peace & love.
Believe it when you see it!
Holy crap...This guy is the very real deal...Just discovered him tonight, and it is like the best Christmas present since Meet the Beatles...Wow.
Just brilliant as simply as that

That chorus climbs into your soul so brilliant
What a great musician & singer he is
Ron Sexsmith has a great sense of melody. I haven’t heard this song before but like it after only one listen.....so I played it again.
I'm a major McCartney fan and I just realized why I liked this guy(Ron Sexsmith so much). You're so right about them sounding alot alike. I never noticed it before.
songwriting at its finest
saw him at Glastonbury a few years ago.brings a tear to a glass eye.
Geez he's just so good. I first heard him about 15 years ago on some Canadian music program. He gets better with every song. This one is especially good.
From the BBC series Songwriters Circle. What a great series, such amazing talents just with their guitars and voices.
Their voices echo to reality
I love this song!
The consummate singer-songwriter. Sexsmith is as good as anyone around.
Thank you for being you. The music industry needs people with integrity
Great stuff Ron, he has a fine guitar accompaniment style
This is all so beautiful. Thank you Mr. Sexsmith for such beautiful and meaningful music.
Amazing
It breaks my heart that Ed fecking Sheeran is a global superstar, while this genius of a man is hardly known.
The last time I saw Ron here in Alberta, he was learning to play the piano! This man rocks.
How can one man and an acoustic guitar fill a auditorium with music? I dont think I have ever heard this in my life.
Amplification, that's how, although Ron is a powerful soul,

Check out Richard Thompson folks.
Whistling over trestles
And past the graveyard sign

Inside a wishing well

A hole to fill with days
On a road where children stray

If seeing
If seeing is believing
I'll believe it
Believe it when I see it
I'll believe it when I see it
With my own two eyes
If seeing
If seeing is believing
I'll believe it
Believe it when I see it
I'll believe it when I see it
With my own two eyes
This ain't no random shuffle
There's reason in these rhymes
A season and a time
In a climate of fear and blood
In the tavern two men did scuffle
Their drunken battle moaned
They groaned like cattle groan
No diamonds here in the rough
And as for peace and love
If seeing
If seeing is believing
I'll believe it
Believe it when I see it
I'll believe it when I see it
With my own two eyes
If seeing
If seeing is believing
I'll believe it
Believe it when I see it
I'll believe it when I see it
With my own two eyes
And when faced with a difficult decision
Would you listen to your heart or mind
We're bound to waste all our free will and ambition
If we got no vision and we got no spine
And as for peace of mind
If seeing
If seeing is believing
I'll believe it
Believe it when I see it
I'll believe it when I see it
With my own two eyes
If seeing
If seeing is believing
I'll believe it
Believe it when I see it
I'll believe it when I see it
With my own two eyes
See it with my own two eyes
Thank you!!!
The other two are Graham Gouldman who was in 10 cc and wrote a lot of songs for other bands, and Fran Healy from Travis.
I saw him in 2003 open up for Coldplay in Denver Colorado..He did a George Harrison tribute medley....blew me away..I've been a fan ever since ❤️
Oh wow, I didn't know he opened for Coldplay. Did they do Gold In Them Hills together?
@@BrianthatiscalledBrian I know Chris Martin came out on stage during his set and sang with him.. but not sure what song? Being that it was my first time seeing him 🙂🤷
Even acoustically (without the definitive Bob Rock production) this is one of Ron's best songs. The man is an incredible talent.
this has to be the best version of this song beautiful
What amazing talent!
Simply put....a real treasure.
fuck knows how many times I've listened to this in the last few months
ah well, one more play......... :P
especially in 2020 /2021
So much better solo than the album version - breathtakingly good
Dang those chord changes get me everytime.
It doesn't get realer than this folks.
Stunning!
Word play masterclass
both guy's like "what the f*** am i doing here" Rawn is incomparable!!!
exactly the same today with me.. cheers berh
The silversmith does it again...
great songwriting !
The guy's a fucking giant, just great...
Simplemente genial Ron, un maestro.
compelling-as always. More Ron genius.
I love this song! Amazing!
Great talent
love this song...nice performance
what a great song for paul mccartney!!!! hope ron will let him..
Great song
Inspired and inspiring
Well, Ron, it's OK even with just you and the guitar. No sweat.
Great tune.
Most insincere word of all time. It’s has an element of sarcasm.
Looking forward to Cadogan Hall March the 2.
I feel the same way listening to Sexsmith as I do with Dylan both so honest.
Bailey Runnett haryavisongd.
Miche....Dylan is the biggest overrated faker ever unleashed on mankind. Lyrics make no sense (by design)..nobel prize for poetry ??? Dylan uses clever wordplay that goes nowhere. Ron is just clever enough to get the message across.
I love him.....who are the guys st his side?
The older guy is Graham Gouldman of 10CC fame (he wrote "Things We Do For Love"). Gouldman became on of the two main guys in 10CC after Lol Creme and Kevin Godley left 10CC in 1974/5.
Thank you!
Kristin Tran The guy on the left is Fran Healy from Travis. He wrote the famous songs "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" and "Sing".
Yeah i'm voting Timpani and horns !
@burpo Glad you liked the video, New Feist CD out tomorrow too.
great song!
Who are the other two? Can anyone tell me?
Love this song...but correct Me...I swear if I close My eyes I hear a hint of Paul McCartney...I swear it would be a song he would sing...just a thought.
Ron needs to produce a solo album. No band. I've started to realize that seeing Ron lie alone is ten times better than with his band.
Nope, wrong
:) I believe!
The Rodriguez of Canada
I'd go along with that comparison, yeah.
2 guys asking themselves " how the hell am I supposed to follow that ? "
I didn't know Jay Mohrs wore a hat when he watched other people play guitar.
100% Jay Mohr 😎 I didn’t know he played guitar. He is a good listener though.
You might see it from afar unless you turn to God
Excuse my typos. Damn iPad.
If Ron were to keep producing records with a band in e background, he should look to the Roy Orbison sound. Timpani, real live horns, back up singers, back up acoustic but not what he has now. The band just doesn't work. Ron is a solo artist.
dudes are sitting there wishing they could tap into that.
Have a listen to Bus Stop by The Hollies, Heartful of Soul by The Yardbirds....Graham Gouldman has nothing to prove to anyone as a songwriter. Ron is very very good. Gouldman has a string of hits with some massive artists....
I'm a convert.
Thanks Cole...yeah, he's pretty good. :)
much prefer his acoustic version, hear some needless auto tune on the album version :/
yes, also a touch of latter day Bob Dylan
I am a huge fan of both, and that comment is ridiculous. the only similarity would be they sing, play guitar and write music.
The saddest musician ever.
