The standard method is to suck out as much old fluid as you can, pour in new, turn wheel stop to stop several times, suck fluid out, refill, and repeat until fluid is clean.

Unreal..saw a guy performing this procedure at a self-serv pump as he and his family were travelling on I-75 and, frankly, Dodge should be ashamed of themselves for this design which I still find unbelievable...wow, a true engineering blunder if I ever saw one!

why don't you just let the power steering pump pump out the old fluid while running, while continually add new fluid while your buddy is turning the the steering wheel to lock to lock until the discharging fluid runs nice and clean, the stop and add fluid if needed or remove fluid if to full. works for me.

Thanks for your video, I was searching where was the danm steering fluid reservoir in this car. Have only experience in germany cars. but man, you should never run a steering pump without fluid. If you wanna clean you need to make two or four fluid changes starting the car always with full reservoir and new fluid. Steering pump running with air, always keep some bubbles in chamber forever and is the beginning of ugly noise there and eventually lost efficiency. That is why mostly steering pump when is replaced for specialist is pre charged with fluid using specials tools for avoid air bubbles inside before mount in car.

What I’ve noticed on several videos is you guys are turning the wheels to get the old fluid out but y’all aren’t turning the wheels with the cap off after filling with new fluid for one the system is going to take the fluid you fill which lower the fluid level you put in and two turning the wheels with the cap off with bleed the lines taking the air out the system that’s why you had that issue and why you had to add more fluid plus you can’t go by what you took out you were low to begin with

You shouldnt run the motor without fluid. Also are you sure you used the correct fluid? This is a EHPS system that requires MOPAR Hydraulic Fluid or equivalent meeting MS-11655, such as Fuchs EG ZH 3044 or Pentosin CHF 11s.

Never did. I was rear-ended about 2 years ago, so right around when this was posted. Since the car was in a shop getting fixed, I proposed finding one in a bone yard and replacing it, which is what they did for me. The damned pump cost me about $600 and I think labor was $350-400. Worked like a charm, though.

@MOPARGuy you need to turn the steering wheel from left to the right about 20 times to get out the old power steering fluid from the power steering rack and then filled it up with new fluid and again 20 times turning steering wheel from left to right.

PLEASE HELP. My 2012 Challenger RT leaked out the power steering fluid and I got a "service power steering" message. The vehicle was towed home. Now with the leak fixed and pump installed. The pump won't engage in order to bleed to system. I've checked fuses and all connection plugs. The error message is still displayed and can't be picked up and cleared with a regular OBD2 scanner. Do I need to have the dealer reprogram/flash the pump? Thank you so much in advance

Have power steering fluid checked every 20k. This will save a lot of money and headache. The dealer won't look at it unless you ask. I put 80k on my 2014 RT and found out that my power steering fluid reservoir was almost bone dry and never has been checked. It has been serviced at the dealership since I bought the vehicle. Your steering will feel numb, rough and noisy when low. I was fortunate to only needing a flush at the tune of $260. You can do this yourself cheaper I know, but I was under a barrel and needing my vehicle asap. Hope this helps!
