- In this video I show my #1 method to easily flush the power steering system even with rack and pinion without the engine running. This is a quick and simple method that'll have you scratching your head thinking, "why didn't I think of that?" The vehicle used in this video is a 2005 GMC ENVOY with the 4.2l inline 6 cylinder vortec engine.

Hi Jimmy. I followed your instructions and did this to my Kia. It was so easy! I even took the reservoir out and cleaned the hell out if it. Apparently there is a screen in there that gets dirty. Anyway, you saved me hundreds of $$ in repairs and thank you so much!
Hey Jimmy, used your method on my '03 Ford ranger. Found the low pressure line and did everything as such, worked so well so smooth and quiet. Thanks for sharing!
Really good video, very helpful, long enough to understand what is happening, thank you.
Two thumbs up! Great video and by far the safest way to do a complete flush of the power steering system. Unlike other videos I watched which tell you to turn on the engine and purge the old fluid out that way- too risky of running out of fluid in the system. This vid is more DIY and makes more sense. Thanks for sharing.
Well explained for the viewers to do the job good. Thank You Sir.
One suggestion would be since you have the Turkey baster available use it to pull as much of the old fluid out as possible before you remove the line which should help to cut down on the amount of fluid spilling out. It would also reduce the number of times you would have to turn the wheel and refill the pump.
Turkey baster companies - our sales are thru the roof boiiioii!!!
I really like the way you teach it. Thank you.
Just did mine this morning using this method. Have just come back from a test drive to get everything up to operating temperature and topped up the reservoir. My son got to turn the steering wheel and loved it. The old fluid was nasty.
Again! as always very informative! Keep up the good work!
nice job jimmy, easy to understand.
First of all, thanks for putting in the time and effort to explain this procedure. Great video! Just did this on my 2010 Nissan Altima. I was unable to remove the hose barb from the power steering return line easily. Ended up pouring boiling water over the line and making a small nick in the line with a utility knife. I was then able to pry it free with a flat head screwdriver and some needle nose pliers. Hope this helps someone out there if they run into this. Cheers.
Just did this on my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer yesterday. I found it was easier to get that low pressure clamp off by going through the passenger side wheel well. Thank you for this video it really helped me out!
Finally found a real one saying how to flush, most of the videos with "flushing" is just drain and fill, this one will surely clean the system.
Nice one man operation & clear explanation. No air ever entered the rack thus a perfect job.
Just used your method and it was very easy as u said. I used a qt of powersteering fluid b4 seeing the clean new fluid. Thanks for ur informative videos.
Wow. Great job with visually gratifying results.
excellent video, thank you for posting this often over-looked maintenance item, none of my owners manual state a p/s flush but great idea to do one anyhow!!
Watching your video on p/ steering oil change from Mauritius. It is a very good and clear demonstration. Top.
Congratulations.
This was well explained and detailed. Thank you!
What size clear tube did you use? And size of the brass fitting ? I need to do this on my 2012 Honda Accord se
thanks for posting the several different kinds, glad i saw this for my Buick with the rack system. perfect. hopefully it fixes my stiff steering issues. great video, keep up the great work
Did it fix the issue
Chris thank you for the really great video, I know that you made three of them but I think that this one is the best. You got the best money shot when you showed the clear line and you saw the old chocolate brown nasty oil and the nice golden clear brown new oil together back to back, as they say seeing is believing. I really like this process as it assure that no air is introduced into the power steering/rack and pinion system.
Thank you Jimmy sharing your knowledge and giving us easy tips
I'll definitely use this technique for my upcoming car project, thanks much 🙂!
Hey Jimmy - you are a star - followed your advice to flush tranny and power steering - both went exactly as you described. God bless!
Thanks for this video. Professional, on topic, you spoke clearly and quickly. I'm no video critic, I just want to commend you on leaving out the unnecessary foul language, and your enthusiasm is contagious. I'm searching for a video about a hose/line (out) that keeps comming off . On a 96 c1500 power steering pump that was replaced after the belt came off during a trip. Thank you again sir, I'm now a subscriber and will be watching these videos!
I've tried using a piece of a 2x4 on top of the jack pad as you did to lift my Touareg, but it cracked while I was lifting, so I don't do that anymore (wood is not consistently hard). I have since bought some of those hard rubber pads and a couple hockey pucks which have been more reliable. Excellent video of the fluid change. Viewers should be careful to use the fluid that is called out either on the cap or the owners manual. My NTM Jeep Commander calls for a very specific Chrysler fluid spec MS10838 which is different from standard steering fluid because it also operates the hydraulically driven engine cooling fan. Apparently there have been quite a few Jeep owners who used standard steering fluid which ruined the hydraulic pump, and those pumps are expensive and not easy to find.
Jimmy, that is a sweet method to remove the old power steering fluid. Thanks for the idea!
Very good job sir
Thank you Jimmy...brass fitting is called a hose barb.
Makes sense. Noted. Thanks!
What size is the hose barb fitting?

hi just to say tried your method and it seems to have worked keep you posted thanks😄
👍 very informative, thanks!
*This video popped up on my recommendations after flushing my 2012 Yukon xl's steering fluid.*
I’m all set up to do this on my 2012 Acadia, can’t wait. Thanks Jimmy👍👍
You help me to get the idler pulley diagnosed and changed. Thanks!
very helpful video thank you 👌🏻
Thank you, Jimmy, and Happy Fathers Day(every day. :-) ) my Silhouette 3.4 doesn't have d easy return line 2 disconnect. No biggie; i just do d repetitive flushturkey baster. My others do. Only comment is d pressure relief valve path may not get flushed by not running d pump n hitting lock. Best wishes and thanks for yiyr energy! Thumbs up!
Love this channel 😍
I am going to try this. Looks great.
Hey Jimmy! Great video. What a super easy way to flush power steering fluid. I'll be using your method when i do my 2004 Envoy (275k miles and still going strong).
They're tough machines i love mine! 219 and climbing. No doubt ill make it to 300k
Great video, will be doing a flush on my 04 envoy, what size tube and fitting did you use?
Great video and procedure. Does this also flush the rack and pinion as well? Thanks
1Road again Present! Watching here Al Khafji Saudi Arabia from Philippines...
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
Super Excellent and Presented Great!! Thank you
@1Road I have the same vehicle. My fluid is leaking excessively from the bottom. The 2 metal lines that run into a long "pipe" underneath are leaking. I've replaced the little orings (pipe seals, according to dealer) and it still leaks. That is the only place its leaking from. Any advice would be appreciated.
Another great quick how to video! Thanks Jimmy!!
Thank you for the kind comment!!
I am replacing a leaking power steering pump on a 2001 Saturn LW300. The rebuilt P/S pump warranty requires that the system be flushed. Thank you for your simple, inexpensive, methodology.
Thanks for the Video!!!
Hi Jimmy, do these steps apply to an electronic steering pump system?
Very nice & informative video.
Great job and explanation. 👍👍☘☘
Thank you, looks so easy.
Thank you for your video! After I watched your video, I did on Tacoma 2011, it works OK. But, the steering wheel on 2005 Sienna has some "noise" after I changed it to new oil. What caused the steering wheel noise?
Great video!
Hi i from Costa Rica, mucha question is, how power steering use the range rover sport 2006, is atf or power steering mineral o syntetic? Thancks
Great video..doing this tomorrow
Great thanks for Your video... I will do the job a soon is possible...!!!
What was he symptoms of it before changing the oil? Was the steering wheel a bit stiff? I have a CTS 2012 that has a problem on the steering it says power steering service! I checked the oil and it’s pretty dirty same as I know your Envoy, do you think this may be the issue ? Dirty oil? Thanks in advance for your help
Nice thanks for the info
Awesome! Just did this to my moms truck.
Awesome video👍
Good video thanks
Great video Brother! My son and I will do this on his car later and then ours. Thanks for helping me look like a BOSS... You now have a new subsriber:)
Good job
Clear , very good
I followed this to a T, at least to the best of my knowledge, but turning the wheels pumped out very little fluid at a time. I was turning the wheel for a couple hours and it kept getting harder and harder to turn. When I cranked it and checked the fluid it was all foamy, and the steering was very hard intermittently followed by loud pump whining. Could it be a different system in my 05 Ford Taurus, or maybe a problem in it?
What size clear tubing and most importantly, what size brass fitting will fit into the return line? Thanks.
Please do an update on your suburban and this envoy to show how is it holding up after power steering flush. Your video gave me the confidence I needed to get it done on my two vehicles!
Adding to the request: Please detail where did you get the clear hose with its size and length,
Home Depot.
@@anibal2476 Get the correct *inside* diameter (provided you haven't done so already). 10' oughta do it.
Cool video... loads of confidence just hit me after viewing your video.
Its contiguous i cant wait to show my mechanic who doesnt seem to know they make drain pans, or how important it is to keep the mess minimized. It saves so much time in the end taking the time to prepare.
Thank you !
Lmao perfect impression of chrisfix right down to the "and wow!". Good video regardless
is it always the bottom hose on the reservoir for the return?
Fantactis job Jimmy.Regard from Croatia.I Will try too
What size hose and fitting would I need for 2011 Chrysler Town & Country? Maybe a dumb question trying to be a DIY and save some $$$.
is it a bad idea to clamp down the return line?
Can you do a brake fluid flush ?
What size hose you use to block off nipple on the reservoir???
This is great, you don't have to pump anything out
I really like this method! Just changed my PS pump on my own 06' Trailblazer (same as your envoy). Think I'll go back and do this, I know I didn't get all the old fluid out of the rack.
Gonna try on my 04 Trailblazer
He forgot to mention any time you change a pump or take off the return you will get air into the system and need to bleed it out by turning the wheel lock to lock with or without the engine running or use a vacuum pump attached to the resivoir.
Gonna try this.
How many liters or quarts of power steering fluid did the GMC Envoy require???
Super Jimmy.
nice one and easy bro
I was looking for a rack and pinion system because it's different than regular power steering
Could you also crank the engine without starting to push all the old fluid out as well??
Sweet!!!!!
I have to replace my high pressure line today, so I might as well do this while I'm at it.
Will this work for a Ford 2001 7.3 diesel?
Is this method a lot better than using a power steering fluid exchange machine?
Can u do that on Mercury car from 2000?
Thanks bro.
i have just one line in my power steering fluid reservor of chrysler voyager 1996, can you help ,thanks
Do you have to put the vehicle in neutral to turn the tires lock to lock after lifting?
Thank you for the video. Am seen lot of this kind of video. Bit doubt, adviceable to use back original PS Fluid as recommended by manufacture. But what if the manufacture itself state that ATF can be used? In my case i can use ATF Dextron 3 as replacement. But again SOCMED community say it bad for our PS system. Your opinions?
They’ve been using trans fluid in Power Steering for years. My GMC manual calls for Dextron VI and that’s what I’m going to use. On this, I think you can’t go wrong using what the manual calls for.
@@MarkSmith-js2pu well noted. Thank you.
Mahalo I just did my Toyota truck 4wd and it worked aloha 🤙🏽
Awesome so easy
Makes a much cleaner job than unplugging the hose from the bottom of the engine compartment and draining it as best as possible (which always results in a mess)! Thanks! 🙂
Hey Jimmy !!! Guess like I'm going to be doing this method, I'll come.back and tell you all, all about it 👍
I am going to try that on my truck but I will suck out the reservoir with a turkey baster first before unhooking any hoses and then with the flushing hoses hooked up I will put new fluid in the reservoir.
