    Thanks for the video! I watched your videos about 2990, I love this little radio, but can't really use it for contesting as it's power is well below the spec and I'm looking for up to spec tuning.
    As you have tuned yours, is the output filtering OK? Have you had a chance to check it? And is it possible to adjust the "low" power? Thanks and 73!

      Hi Pavol, I would love to have a nice quality spectrum analyser but unfortunately they are a little expensive for the occasional use I would have. Maybe one day if the right deal comes along.

      @@justradio5521 Hello. You can maybe check RF Explorer, these are not so expensive and maybe it can do the job. I was thinking very hard about it myself, but so far there was always something more important to invest in and I'm probably not skilled enough to get into radios tuning and servicing (even if I would love to), so my use would be limited.

    Love the 2990, used 99% for RX while traveling but need to touch up the TX frequency. What coils or other adjustments are there specifically for TX freq warp? I have schematic but it lacks descriptions. Using calibrated Viavi monitor

      Try this link, the Magnum is basically the same radio:

    Thanks for the information,
    I have one of the newer version, it doesn’t have the “RPT”, everything else is the same.
    I would love to do that mod you talking about, I’m very confident in doing the MOD, but I’m not equipped with those kind of test equipments.

      Yes, it's like working on your car or your home, it's difficult to spend money on tools you may only use once. Sometimes it makes more sense to go to a rig doctor.

      @@justradio5521 Dr. are hard to find Lol.
      Which way is peak,
      Clockwise or counterclockwise?
      Equal for t11,t12 & L9?
      I know RV2 is clockwise to peak.
      Thanks

    • @justradio5521

      @@3000kitesurfer It won't be just one direction to peak, you may need to go clockwise or counterclockwise to find the peak. All depends how it been set or drifted over time. With your instruments connected you just need to adjust slowly in one direction, if it's rising then keep going until it starts to drop again then come back to the peak. If it's going down then go the other direction until you find peak.

    Is it possible to increase over 4 watts of transmitting power?

    • @justradio5521
      @justradio5521  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Jose, you may get a little more, it's good to find the peak but with a handheld you really need to get best power out to power consumed ratio. You could get to a point when a very small increase in output power requires a bigger increase in consumption which means bigger battery drain and the small increase just isn';t worth it. Also don't forget because of that inefficiency a lot of heat is generated which can be a problem in such a small radio where everything is packed in really tight.

      @@justradio5521 allright nice lesson here, so lets say as of a thought experience, would it be possible to pump it to 6watts? taking what you said into account it is still good to know how to do it for an emergency situation

      @@itrstt66 I doubt you'll get 6W, don't know if you've watched my other Albrecht video but take a look if you haven't. I got up to 4.7W carrier on my radio, I also talk a little about the heat build up in that video.

      @@itrstt66 Yes, if your radio is already at 4W then I really don't think it's worth worrying about. Each radio might be a little different, mine was at 3W when I started.

      Hi Nokiaman, just wondering if you got your power sorted. What test equipment are you using?

      @@justradio5521 Just an HF power meter. Also some idiot had been into this radio and removed the entire ferrite core from the inductor L9 meaning that the main drive to the PA was too low. another screwdriver expert. Radio is useless now.

    • @justradio5521
      @justradio5521  3 роки тому

      @@nokiaman2002 That's not good, these inductors are paired with specific cores to get the range required but it's worth trying cores from spare inductors/other radios, you might be able to revive the radio.

    Thank you for your great videos. Can you please explain to me in detail how to adjust the power of this walkie takie? I have one and I would like to adjust the power and I am told that I am out of frequency! Thank you so much.
