I currently drive a 2019 WRX STI. Back in March 2007..I bought a brand new EVO IX GSR..At the time it was the few remaining brand new EVO's in my area for sale at local Mitsu dealers..Till this day I miss it.
How’s reliability with alll them horses been? And what have you built? I wanna know how much hp that car can handle stock (reliably). Ps, I’m 17 looking into first car tings
@@latuba2478 So my car was a built 2.0 with a 6226 turbo running on full e85. Tuning is very important for these cars, I am blessed to live in an area where a very known evo shop called "MOORE AUTOMOTIVE" in Fairfax VA. My car was very reliable and very easy to drive. However, Stock motor evo's can handle 400whp really easily. You'll be below 400tq on a stock motor, but it should last over 100k miles. Check out evolutionm dot net. Or hmu on here before you buy an evo. They are awesome man, as long as you a patient and don't buy a crappy one you'll be fine!
There's a raw Racecar feeling about the EVO. Steering is precise, throttle is precise, power comes on hard, shifter is notchy but can be upgraded. This thing car is extremely nimble and precise, like a sharp blade. Where it can really shine is off road, snow, dirt, mud. but most people wont do this with an EVO.
I worked at the power plant on the Ohio river just down the road from where you were filming. Excellent road to "test" that car on. Drove that exact road everyday in an SUV and wished that I had a fun car like the Evo to use on it. I enjoyed the video.
I love my Evo Ix. Was also my dream car the year I graduated. Took me till 2012 to get mine. Still have it to this day. Bought it with 19k miles now I have 44k on it. Would love to have another to drive everyday.
We still use those in professional rally racing just with MoTec racing ECU(and anti lag) and they are almost unbeatable. The way they get traction on Pirelli rally tires even in the rain using slicks it's simply amazing.
From own an Evo Ix mr, I absolutely agree with everything ur saying except the driving skill set. Driving the Evo isn’t just clutch shift and go. The Evo shows u ur driving flaw. It tunes ur driving habits. Being in touch with the car, knowing when to shift with precision on boost. Techniques like match reving, heel toe, double clutching, and more to stay within the powerband/ boost threshold. Besides that, love my Evo. My bullet train....
It's great to see new Evo videos. I've had mine for about 11 years now and I think I can sell it for at least what I paid for it, if not more. But, it has been a bit expensive to maintain that car over the years. They are not cheap to fix and parts prices are obscene, though pretty much available because of the huge aftermarket. The car is definitely worth it though. It's such a pleasure to drive and just stare at too lol. I probably won't sell it until I retire or something and I bought a 9-3 daily driver.

Yeah I get your point about learning advanced driving techniques in an Evo. It wasn't made for it. It was definitely made for advanced drivers to completely obliterate tracks. Like Matt Farah once said, the fastest person in your local track day is always a retiree in a stock Evo 8/9.
@@seansmile Owned six Dsms and owned an import repair business when people actually cared about Evos and in the hands of a layman this is exactly what happens. totally wrong about the gearbox, the boxes are so much stronger than the WRX, they're like crystal compared to the evo gear boxes. the 6 speed isn't as strong, but it still comes down to how it's driven. An STI gearbox will beak with minor launch's.
