  • Here is one of the most epic hikes we've done to date. We traveled to Tallulah Gorge for the adventurous and dangerous floor gorge hike from Hurricane Falls to one of the world's best and rare waterslide waterfalls known as Bridal Veil Falls (aka Sliding Rock).

To get a permit for the Sliding Rock Trail on the Tallulah Gorge floor, you must get a permit where we had to wait in line before they opened at 8am. Along the way to the amazing ending is a scenic stretch near Tallulah river where you basically boulder hop most of the way.
You also encounter a few other waterfalls before sliding rock such as Oceana Falls, and coming off the gorge side is one of Georgia's tallest waterfalls called Caledonia Cascades over 600ft tall.
A few other neat facts. Tallulah Gorge is one of Georgia's 7 natural wonders and they also filmed parts of the 2018 film Avengers Infinity War in the state park.
Some random info for hiking this trail. Walking sticks might help traverse the rocky boulders over the river, no sandals allowed, no pets allowed, alcohol allowed, and the waterfall waterslide is great to hang out on a hot summer day. I recommend getting there 20-30 minutes before they open at 8am in order to secure a floor gorge permit.

The Tallulah Gorge is a gorge formed by the Tallulah River cutting through the Tallulah Dome rock formation. The gorge is approximately 2 miles (3 km) long and almost 1,000 feet (300 m) deep.[1] The Tallulah Gorge is located next to the town of Tallulah Falls, Georgia. Tallulah Gorge State Park protects much of the gorge and its waterfalls. The gorge is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia.[2]
Just above the falls is Tallulah Falls Lake, created in 1913 by a hydroelectric dam built by Georgia Railway and Power (now Georgia Power) in order to run Atlanta's streetcars. The dam still collects and redirects most of the water via a 6,666-foot (2,032 m) tunnel sluice or penstock around the falls to a 72 MW hydropower electricity generation station downstream that is 608 feet (185 m) lower than the lake, except for a few days each year. The days when water is released are very popular for recreation, such as kayaking and whitewater rafting.[3]
