As we have yet to visit only three of the falls on your site, Burgess Falls, Rock Island and Fall Creek Falls, I have to say that Burgess Falls is our go to place to relax. We live about three hours west of Cookeville so making it to some of the others is still something we want to do. We got to Rock Island late in the day and didn't get to see a lot. We also visited Fall Creek Falls and weren't impressed because the water flow was limited then. Still want to go back to these three again, as well as Cummins Falls. Great videos of all the falls...Thanks...
A repeated theme in this video; an hour and a half from Nashville. Thats why this Nashville native lives on the Cumberland Plateau! My farm backs up to Colditz Cove SNA which has beautiful Northrup Falls as it's center-point. A moderate 25 minute hike out my back door and I am under the falls! Started hiking to most of these other falls in the late 70's as a student at Tennessee Tech.
You forgot to mention Lost Creek Falls which is about 3.5 miles west of Virgin Falls. It is pretty incredible. You should probably mention Laurel Falls on the north side of Savage Gulf. It's entrance is just off of the road about 7 miles north of the entrance to the Greeter Falls and Boardcreek Falls entrance. Piney Falls in Grandview, TN which is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Nashville is definitely worth a mention. There are some smaller waterfalls worth mentioning in Middle Tennessee. 1. Cul-car-mac Falls which is east of Smithville. 2. Machine Falls which is in between Manchester and Tullahoma. It is just southwest of Rutledge Falls. 3. Waterloo Falls which is about 10 miles northeast of Cummins Falls. It is off of Waterloo Rd not far from the HWY 136.
Wow! You guys made the Virgin Falls hike? Respect! It's a tough hike by anybody's measurement and I never carried video equipment. And well, Rutledge Falls is 2 miles from my house so that's always been a favorite. Short Springs Natural Area is about a mile from Rutledge Falls and has 1 big-ish fall and 2 smaller falls and lots of beautiful hiking.
I went to Burgess, Fall Creek Falls and Cummins Falls just last year. My wife and I love riding the backroads throughout the state of TN and checking out some great scenery. Some of our favorite places to stop are at waterfalls. We will have to hit some of the others this coming year.
When drove a truck - all through Northern Alabama - beautiful drive on Hwy. 72 - the twin bridges over the Elk River. Gotta get back down there sometime - flea market in Madison County, Isom's Fruitstand, and - yes- Dreamland B.B.Q.
*Can't be more wonderful when watching interesting videos like this at the weekend. Very alluring. Wishing you a weekend full of joy and happiness!👍👌🤝🙏*
I have been to Burgess many times. One of the coolest features is that, during the Spring when the water is high, you can boat in off of Center Hill Lake right to the base of the falls. It's SO cool.
I went to Cummins over the weekend and it was amazing.. My only complaint was the huge amounts of people that crowded the area by 11am and the amount of trash people were throwing down. I feel like social media has helped many people discover great new places to explore, but it also attracts lots of kids that could careless about being respectful.
I am from East Tennessee and I love the waterfalls here in the Appalachian Mountains and Great Smoky Mountains. But I also have a fond spot for a waterfall I have only seen in film. That is the beautiful waterfall in the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No".
Very well made video. Thank you. 7th generation native of Tennessee. Grew up in Williamson County, now live in White County - ''The Land of Falling Waters''.
Amazing video! loved it, were heading up there right after Christmas and i wrote all your Falls down to check them out. I have been to Burgess Falls a few years ago and was curious if you were going to cover it then you finished the video with it. very enjoyable hike and a really cool split tree trunk along the way.
I have a dog that is absolutely obsessed with waterfalls. Her favorite place to go in the summer is Jackson falls on Natchez Trace. It’s only about 60ish miles down the Trace from Nashville and only about 30 minutes from where I live. I plan on taking her to Cummins falls in about a week and then going to some of the other falls you have in this video.
The Virgin falls hike is the one Michael Scott would do on his own. Dwight would secretly follow him and let him become partially dehydrated before enacting a rescue...😂 ps - great video!
Im from the west side of Tennessee and have been very sad to see not many falls by me. I did manage a weekend in middle tn. Falls creek falls was too crowded for my taste. Greeter falls and Old stone fort was amazing but i absolutely fell in love with rock island falls. The fall was mind blowing
Just got back from Scandanavia 'chasing waterfalls' - looks like a decent option for the future - Twin Falls, Rock Island WOW 6:09 and Rutledge Falls 8:43
Cookeville, TN born and raised and spent lots of time in the outdoors. Spent countless hours at the places on this list. Surprised Waterloo didn't make the cut.
I've been to nearly all of these, minus Foster and Rutledge, which I plan on visiting soon. Virgin Falls is DEFINITELY difficult, if you want to do the whole thing I recommend camping so that you can enjoy it without it being so strenuous. Greeter and Ozone are probably my favorites, because they are less crowded and beautiful. Cummins is great but extremely crowded in the summer. Same with Fall Creek. I have taken my dog (golden retriever) on nearly all of these, but not all were easy. I can't get him down the spiral stair case at Greeter to the base of the falls and have to stay up top which is a bummer.
While Cummins Falls does have relatively easy access for the overlook, you will need a permit to hike into the gorge to get to base and the swimming hole. A great waterfall to piggyback with Cummins is Waterloo Falls at the Waterloo Venue and Event Center on Spring Creek.
Enjoy the falls but please be careful you don't fall ! When I visited Ozone falls a man had fallen and they were bringing him up on a stretcher. I helped carry him out. He was alive the last time I saw him. I don't know if he made it or not. I know of at least one person who died when they slipped into the stream above Fall Creek falls.
Thanks for posting this vid. I enjoyed it, especially the report on Rutledge Falls (which I had not seen). Your description of Fall Creek Falls was generous. Even after a major rain, it doesn't look all that great. The 256' drop is way out of proportion to the narrow stream of water. The other falls in Fall Creek Falls State Park (Piney Falls & Cane Creek Falls) are more picturesque.
Fall creek falls in very interesting. When it's in full flow, it's absolutely incredible. We've seen it in just about every stage. But 70% of the time it's not in full flow.
I love your video, the waterfalls are gorgeous! I've seen pictures videos of the water falls around Cookeville, Sparta and nearby cities, would love to visit. So in love with all of them! My interests in these places are because of genealogy ties to the area. I have never lived there, except in Millington briefly when I was a little girl. Maybe someday this grandma will make her way there.
TN has so many riches. These are some amazing falls. There are some that are more amazing, though. I live in Eastern TN and I have to say, Western NC is the best for waterfalls in the lower 48. Brevard and Transylvania counties have the goods in NC.
