My 98 year old father, born in the UK, is thoroughly enjoying this series as he and my mother cycled tandem, towing a trailer, across Canada in 1953 on their honeymoon!
Currently I'm 16. Every summer i make bicycle trips to foreign countries all alone with a tent and cooking gear. Last year i went from Holland to France (400km) and the other year from south to north Holland (250km) it's slot of fun
those brook saddles are bomb proof. I've had it sitting in the rain over night then rode it the next day. It was soft enough that it actually improved the fit of it because it formed to my body. It is good to apply the brooks wax consistently though. I've put 10000 km on it and it still looks like new.
haha love your comment, made me laugh! We've met a man who had an 80 year old Brooks saddle and it still looked quite new even though it's been used a lot! They are quite something!
Great editing. Wonderful hacks on the gear. My spouse and I have had a hand-built Assenmacher tandem since 1981. Still have it. Still ride it. We've toured all over in the US (of course), parts of Canada, a few islands in the Caribbean, NZ, more islands in the South Pacific and in Ireland. We're in our 70's now and, having the means, we have changed out the camping routine for hard roof stays in posh places where we can get a shower, get warm and a table cloth at dinner. But, still do tours from time to time. Be well.

Damn, I started to think he abandoned his channel. Good to see they are still going! This channel inspired me to do my own world bike trip (in the future) and creating unforgettable videos. Seeing his enginuity once again getting this bike ready, reminded me of my big plans. I won't just put bags on a bike and go. I will supposedly construct my very own custom bike, which will be a combination of a recumbent trike and a pickup truck, yes you read right. Sitting in front in some kind of capsule that provides protection from the weather, and having a big bed in the back - literally a bed, combination of sleeping area and storage. The whole construction being made of aluminum, I want to be sleeping with a little bit of protection from animals and the like, which you don't have at all in a tent. I know, the whole construction will be ridiculously heavy, but on such a trip, you are not needing to get anywhere fast. Such a construction would come with unusual benefits, like a huge plain in the back, where you could spread out serious solar chargers, and power is always a concern on such an insane trip. Having watched his world trip, I got the serious wanderlust.
@@aisholaaisaeva Thank you for reading all that. And yes, that would be insanely awesome and could actually happen. I mean, how were the odds of Ed meeting another Brit, Will randomly on the other side of the planet? Once I will do the trip and do videos, I'll certainly refer to you both in those. =D
@@tompi6256 Thank you for saying so. Makes me believe more, that people would really enjoy, what I could be showing. I know I enjoyed it a lot, when Ed showed us very distant and lonely places all over the world.
Just followed you, looking forward to see this come to reality. I barely can imagine how your vehicle will look like, but you are the only one who needs the vision of it. I hope you will end up doing it, you just gotta start. I did my first bicycle tour this year and after postponing it for like two months I just started some day at like 4pm without much preparation just to get rolling and I dont regret it.
Back in August I bike packed (for the first time) from Lands End to Dover along the south coast. Stunning route, but yes very very very hilly. Enjoy Ed - watching your world trip was the main reason I wanted to put a tent on my bike in the first place, so thank you!!
A couple weeks ago, my brother and I were spit-balling on some sort of adventure. We decided on RAGBRAI 2022, but decided to do try it on a...tandem! Neither of us owned a tandem, but I went out and found an old touring tandem, a Burley Duet from the 90's. Been tricking it out, we don't need to 'camp' it, as tour vans will cart our luggage between stops.
me and me girlfriend have a tandem. its a modified walmart tandem. Its not hardly my size, its hard to get comfortable or stay comfortable. So far we've used to for juist one overnight bikepack trip, but were interested in more, partly because of your videos. Im sure this series will get us moving on that again!
I always thought everyone must be exaggerating about the Cornwall hills - especially while doing John o'Groats to Land's End where we started in Scotland - I thought it must just be those soft southerners... But how wrong I was! So glad to see you back pedalling again Ed and lovely seeing it with Aishola too! You inspired me to start cycle touring and making videos.
Recently got a Thorn bicycle for the missus, the only recommendation I'd make is upgrade to full length steel or aluminium mudguards when your plastic ones break, they keep the road spray off the drivetrain much better.
This is such a positive channel. I would probably never choose tandem bike for bikepacking because of reduced freedom of movement or view for the back passenger but hey : it's up to you and this video definitely hooked me up for the series! Good luck!
The start of this vídeo made me remember when me and my ex-girlfriend got 70 Kms/h on our tandem, in Alentejo, Portugal, it was amazing, the mix of fear and joy of it all !
Good to have you back, I love your trip ideas and Aishola but your beautiful editing makes each video warm, cool, personal and down home charming. So very British
I am excited for your trip. I walked 350 miles of General George Patton's D-Day cleanup journey thru France, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. I was a member of the 1st of the 39th battalion in 1977 when more than a dozen re-enacted that journey 35 years after. I had learned to plan for events from my parents because of a missionary trip took in 1967 to Brazil from California. Later I decided to ride the Arizona Challenge a 325 mile event done in one day. I tried it 3 times and finished it 2 times. The journeys are important but you need to do good along the way. I see you and your family efforts and am happy for you.
Great video and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series. If you haven't already figured this out, the correct and easiest way to start off on a tandem is for the stoker to have both feet on the pedals when you push off. The bike is much more stable this way.
I didn't realize you are the same Ed that I watched unicycling almost half a year ago (and yes, you made an impression! It was a video where you bumped into a chinese gentleman cycling with his daughter in a trailer, in that same video, I would never forget ... the police officers told you there were wolves up in the mountain, and you went, "nah! don't worry about it" or something like that). Much braver than us for certain! Now, not "only" have you got a tandem bike, you "also" figured out a way to mount the gopro ONTO the handlebar to achieve hands-free recording (this has been my most recent project/question). We are in the US and own the Bike Friday quick-fold tandem (we love the 20" wheels), haven't tried folding it but love the option. We want to record footage of us cycling on it (with a gopro, which we have yet to invest in). Your video gives me a good idea of how hands-free recording might be achieved. Now, I just have to figure out a way to "quite easily" take the selfie-stick on and off the tandem easily. We bike commute and at any point, might want to fold up the bike to go into stores (not the most graceful thing to do but it's do-able, if we wanted to go into the stores bad enough). For the 2 things mentioned ( one, you got the tandem now! 2nd, you taught me the gopro hands-free recording on the tandem handlebar) ... SUBSCRIBED!!! boy! It's not easy to get a Customer these days is it? lol ... Ed was working diligently to teach us multiple things in this video here. Would you please just subscribe alreay ! jeeezzzee ... hahahhah.. Question for you, have you ever considered a trailer? I asked because we are a trailers household, we own a few of them and have always prefer them over putting weight on the bikes. Strangely, I'd always felt less weight whenever I'm pulling a trailer. Curious as to your thoughts.

This man is my biggest inspiration from when I turned into an adult I admired Ed. No interest in unicycling. But I will travel like Ed in some format. LOVE YOU ED!!!!!
Thank you from the US. Just your story alone inspires me to get to my goal. A sail boat so I can live on the sea and see all the world. Again thanks for being strong that’s what’s inspires at least me.
Beautiful !!! Happy to see you again Edd ; all the best!!!
