I just rebuild my 1998 Evo and it sounds and runs great. Except all of this motor oil (steady solid stream and blasts when throttle is hit) coming from the breather tube. Found these videos. I had a S&S reed breather and so I just removed it to install a factory gear plastic one. But unfortunately still doing the same amount of oil puking. I did install an Ultima High Volume Oil pump in the build. Maybe that is my problem? Or do you have any other suggestions.
That you. But I figured it out over the weekend. The shaft key was missing from the scavenge gear side of the oil pump. So the engine had good oil pressure but the oil wasn't returning back to the pan so the engine was filling with oil and puking out the breather. All running great now. Your videos have been very helpful.
every bike is different. on the 1983 fxrt it made no differeance. on joes, it runs better and stopped puking. i think it is about 20% against right now. all the others work just fine. one thing is for sure, the plastic ones suck. tatro
@@TatroMachine I'm not wrong. You are mistaken sir. Since when did an EVO start running the starter solenoid on the inner primary? It doesn't. A Shovelhead does. The EVO solenoid is on the starter not in primary. Nice try though! 😂 The FXR you're working on in the video is a Softail EVO. Why doesn't it have a starter solenoid on the inner primary? Because it's not a Shovelhead! 😲
damm you are a dumbass. go get a harley parts book and educated yourself. just because you spent 30k+ at harley school doesn't mean you know squat. go by a $70 1984 big twin parts book and see what harley did when they put that evo topend onto the shovel lowerend. tatro
@@TatroMachine I have tried it both bottom and top but in my cat S&S says 93-99. I use evo top breather heads on bottom breather motors and it did not like those motors either often they are larger. Swap back to conventional and no more problems. In the later top breather motors i found they seemed to like the reed vent.
If he would of done this in January I could have offered $100 for the reed breather or Swap I had the Jim's Breather in my engine I went to the Reed breather in my EVO

The only 86 that was wrinkle black drive train was the Special Edition bikes which were all serialized (numbered)
Just wondering would the reed valve work in a 83 shovel 80ci ? The hole is a little roughed up due to the plastic gear .

FYI... The inner primary that was held up fits a Shovelhead.
wrong again, its an evo softail. look at the part number cast into it. the starter fork was a big give away too. back to school.

I love my reed breather for all of my bikes. Even works well in my 113" Ultima motor
@@kennethwise7108 Mines working just fine and Zero leak down , has to be a valve guide or seal leaking .
