Dennis' drumming turns catchy 60's pop songs into stadium epics!!!! I never realized he was that good
He was awesome!
Dennis looks like he's not having fun, Looks like he's struggling on drums,
That’s because he was! During this time he was struggling hard with alcohol and drugs, The reason he looks so miserable is because he fucked up a few songs during this concert, the song they played right before I get around was one of the tunes he messed up, Mike love was giving him shit and that’s why you see him shaking his head before the song starts, regardless of his mistakes during the show his performance still holds up in one of the best beach boys shows ever performed
@@miamibeachsunnydays8274 he's rushing the beat SO bad- i bet they brought THAT up later-lol
He was an amazing drummer!
Dennis is kicking so much ass on those drums!
I meet Bruce Johnson on February 18th after a show in sarasota fl
Who cares?
Agreed! He's one cool cat. 😎
This version is awesome! Especially Dennis' drumming!!!!!!
i know right!
I love his heavy hands on the drums. They all shine here.
They really do. Dennis is a very underrated drummer. I think he's an even more underrated songwriter. I mean, "Forever" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I always think that "Forever" could of fit in nicely on Pet Sounds, if Brian had the Wrecking Crew play on it.
MovieMaker484 The 70's were a great time for the other Beach boys (Dennis included) to shine. Some amazing albums that made the surf sound feel quaint.
Yes you're right. My favorite Beach Boys records from the 70's are Sunflower and Surf's Up. I also think the album Keepin' The Summer Alive from the 80's is very underrated. Especially Bruce's "Endless Harmony".
Think Dennis does a great job on drums. Really drives the band!!!!! R.I.P. Dennis and Carl!!!!!!
Watching this has brought on a whole new appreciation for Dennis Wilson.
Agreed! 😎
A good choice for the camera to focus all that time on the often ignored Dennis. He rocked this performance and he stole the show here
Agreed! Dennis is rockin. 😎
I met Carl Wilson about ten years before this video was shot. He was then actively looking for help for his brothers. Carl was the calm in the center of the family storm. I learned of his death while playing a gig at a seafront lounge, outside wind howling and rain blowing sideways across the water.
Anybody else think Dennis Wilson's drumming ability is SOOOOO underrated?
Yeah he's amazing
Brandon Butler He is a fucking legend, not underrated at all.
MetalMessiah2002 I agree, I was just asking becuase there are many out there who believe he was really underrated as a drummer. He hardly drummed on the Beach Boys best records because of the Wrecking Crew. I think he could have done fine making Pet Sounds on drums.
Brandon Butler You're correct. And I do not understand this treatment ! Dennis had no reason to envy Keith Moon, John Densmore or Ringo Starr.
+John Martinsen I don't want to destroy this thread, but OMFG:
*"You might have sucked at swimming drunk - but ...."*
THAT is INSANELY funny, and don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise!
Dennis made this a edgy rock n roll show and absolutely crushed it
This version is absolutely insane. I think I might even like it more than the original recording. Dennis firing off on all cylinders is a damn sight
That was probably his last good live performance :(
@@Aragonstaryeah. Rip Dennis. Carl too of course
This is _SURF PUNK!_
Agreed! They rock. 😎
Dennis Wilson is one hell of a drummer -- pure talent!
YES !!!!!!!!!!!! HELLBOY DRUMMER
I think "Animal" the muppet drummer was fashioned after him.
The last time we get to see DW somewhat healthy, involved, sober & together in the music! He was fighting a losing battle with his demons, but on this night--for a few magic minutes--he was THE quintesserntial Beach Boy. RIP 4-Ever, Denny. Wolfsky9
Dennis is absolutely killing it on this. RIP Legend.
but seriously, what a stellar live performance
My favorite performance of I Get Around ever, and it's not even close.
Play this on your car stereo and crank it up. It rocks!
Much rather listen to their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Tight and discipline and true to the original recording.
@@topgeardel This one was more rock n roll and fiery though. The boys definitely had a few drinks and.....substances before this show
yep i sure do, this and sloop john b and help me rhonda from this concert
This is friggin music gold. Dennis playing with heavy hands and Carl shredding the bridge/solo with a fuzz pedal. Far from the clean cut original version. Love this.
Dennis's drumming throughout this concert was just amazing. His style was to use his right hand as the back beat, where most right handed drummers use their left. It adds a real meaty back beat just perfect for stadium concerts.
Best song of Beach Boys! The strong of youth, really unforgettable.
Dennis Wilson and Steven Adler both have that ability to distribute an energy to the audience which is something that can not be taught.
Dennis during this whole show played his heart out. I think he was in a good place here. He is a underrated drummer, one of the best in my opinion. Its a shame he went so early
Agreed. 👍
Dennis and Carl Wilson Rockstars
This performance of I Get Around is one of the best performances I've heard. The vocals I mainly hear the vocals of Carl Wilson (who is on backing vocals), Mike Love and Bobby Figueroa which in fact they sound great along with Al and Bruce singing the backing vocals. Dennis was on fire with this drumming skills.
Who is singing brians part? I cant figure it out.
@@dudel39 I think it’s Bobby Figueroa
The best version the boys performed ever. See Dennis drumming and everybody is enjoing it and sounding great !!!!
Dennis is an absolute monster on the drums, such a cool guy
I've been a fan of these guys for more years than I liked to admit.
Same! They rock. 😎
@@petestaint8312: Amen! 😇
Best live performance of this song ever!
It was typical of the Beach Boys to bring up the tempo of many of their old hits for concerts. It might be true that Mike didn't like the fast tempo...but Dennis understood the crowd and the energy of the moment. When Dennis was gone, the band lost a lot of its energy on tour. They still had some great performances, but everything was more mechanical. Carl held it together and coached the drummers onstage. Al worked hard at keeping the integrity of the sound also. Yes, rockers grow old.
Agreed. Dennis was the soul of the band. He is sorely missed.
I want a beard like Dennis Wilson's. That is all.
The most powerful and best drummer in the world "Dennis Wilson❤"
Agreed!!! He's the man. 😎
Well no wonder they sounded great back then. They had jesus on the drums!
Jesus could walk on water. Dennis thought he could also and drowned to his death
@@resireg Geez dude, that's dark.
@@ayatollahkhamenei5014 well, dark is the revolution you pal Khomeini led in 1979
@@resireg I thought it was pretty fun tbh.
😄😄😄
Now THAT is what I call drumming. Dennis Wilson ladies and gents!!!!! I can just see after the concert was over Mike telling Dennis it was too fast and to not ever play that fast again. But I gotta tell ya, I loved the feel of the music at that tempo. It sure got me up dancing and moving my head in every direction. DENNY WILSON IS THE MAN!!!! I wish he was still around so I could enjoy him in person at a concert. RIP Denny and Carl!!
Why do people need to keep dumping on Mike?! Can't we just enjoy the clip?
This is their best concert. Solid.
@@paul4god310 agreed! 👍
Dennis is goin HARD
Every time I see this concert I marvel at Dennis and his energy, he was having a ball. One of the last times the original 5 Beach Boys played together!
I saw him play in Houston a few months before he died. Brian wasn't there of course. Dennis had gained weight but looked happier and healthier than I'd seen him in a long while. I was stunned when he died later that year.
My father in law was lucky enough to meet dennis back in 1981 at a bar in huntington beach CA, my father in law at the time was a aspiring musician and brought dennis to his rehersal studio to do some jamming. At the time my father in law wasnt as confident in his playing he thought he needed to know thoery dennis nust told him dont worry about it just play your heart out! RIP dennis wilson.
When I was 18 in my Senior Year of High School I saw the
Dennis Wilson Documentary, and it was because of the Documentary I learned how to play drums
open-handed just like Dennis. I'm 26 years old now, til this day I still know how to drum like him and never get tired of it whenever I play along to any Beach Boys song 🏄
Awesome! Also, he inspired my brother to take up the drums. For me, I took up the guitar because of Carl.
@@petestaint8312 nice.., maybe we can get a Band going?🤘
Dennis showed how a much better drummer he was on this than given credit for . His vocal on baby blue showed he could sing to and such a a shame his starshine came to late to be really appriciated in the mainstream .
Bobby Figueroa sings the falsetto on this one, though for most of this concert it's Al Jardine who handles it.
Jason Biggerstaff Whoever it is got robbed by the cameraman. I don't think they showed them once.
@@BrolitoBroskavitch There was other footage that wasn't included with the DVD that gave Bobby a ton of airtime. He knocked it out of the park.
Are you sure?
I was wondering who the hell the guy singing falsetto was.
@@greatcitysportaction2289 yes
Best version of I Get Around I've ever heard, and I've heard a ton of them!
Christian Bale is an awesome drummer!
BeachBoysfan4ever MLP no trust it’s definitely Christian bale
@@muncraft5976 Aaron Eckhart man
@@beachboysswiftie no that's not him it's bongo in the Led Zeppelin
I love how gave this song a hard rock tinge for this performance.
La batería de Dennis en este tema es pura fuerza y energía // Dennis' drumming in this tune is pure energy and strength 🎆
I'll swear to goodness, I didn't know Dennis could drum this well. That was really a great video! Of course, anyone who's listened to Pacific Ocean Blue knows the man had a ton of musical talent, although most didn't appreciate it at the time.
Dennis was gorgeous
GO DENNIS!!!!!
He was awesome! 😎
La mejor música!!! Saludos desde Argentina!
Just proves how perfect the beach boys are, even today, this would crush every « number one » in the charts. Outstanding band, equalled by the Beatles only, and to think that the two band existed at the same time…thank god, music would never be what it is other way
Dennis is really on fire this performance. Miss you Dennis.
Dennis Rocks!! He is the best drummer and he has his own drumming style :) Love it!
RIP Dennis and Carl
Dennis Wilson is a fantastic drummer!! RIP
Great seeing Denny on the drums.
He inspired my brother to take up the drums. Carl inspired me on guitar. 😎
QUE LINDO MOMENTO!
Brian Wilson ❤️ is 80 yrs old, Thank You Boyz for entertaining us kids 💯❤️😭
Dennis was an UNDERATED drummer!
Best fucking version ever from the Beach Boys--Energetic, powerful, with hints of punk.
This version is fucking badass !!
Agreed!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
My favorite Beach Boys song. Thanks.
They were all there, in that year. It would've been nice if it were so in 2019.
BEACH BOYS FOREVER
Dennis Wilson. Wow. Chills.
Wind through Carl Wilson’s hair. Amazing.
One of the greatest groups ever Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Al Jardine and the other one
The other one is the leader of the band, and Bruce Johnston the keyboard player
Mike Love the leader of the band...I don’t think the other members would agree. It’s known that Carl Wilson took the lead after Brians problems
@@JamesJones-bm1pj the name Beach Boys belongs to him (it helps the fact that he wrote many of their best lyrics and hits). Besides, in 99% of bands, the vocalist is the leader
@@resireg I hope your joking!
Man, this harmony was phenomenal!
yes, agreed he's terrific
Best version ever. One of the best presentations of the legendary group Beach Boys.
I love Dennis ❤️
I saw The Boys in Bournemouth UK in 1991. I couldn"t believe the sound they produced. Best harmonic concert ever@
dennis wilson is such a viking
i could listen to those vocal harmonies all day long... also, dennis is ROCKING in this video.
Dennis Jesus christ Wilson rocks!
Jesus Christ died for our sins, use His mighty name in reverence.
@@MegaSpiritualWarrior nah, you lot are free to use my name however you like
@@dd-lv9ih loser
From being a lightweight pop song to being re imagined as a heavier rock and roll number, I see this as America's greatest band defiantly answering their critics who had questioned if they were still relevant by 1980
Demny beatin' the snot outta them drums, yessah !
😂😂😂. Agreed!
@KreeshaMe --------- Bobby Figueroa is singing the falsetto. There was other video that is not part of the DVD that shows Bobby singing the falsetto.
my heart goes out to Dennis. you can see the vulnerability.
You can. He's trying to exorcise his demons here.
I think this may be my favorite arrangement of any song I've ever heard ...and I can't even say I'm a fan.
I watch this and I want Dennis to pull out of his tailspin so badly, but it never happens. What a great drummer to watch.
Love this whos the guy with the bard playing the drums
Great live performance of one of their best songs.
the best song ever !
@asura0528808 Yes, they are. Bruce Johnston on the small white keyboard (brought in after Brian left) Al Jardine (white fedora), Mike Love (singing lead), Carl Wilson (green jacket) and Dennis Wilson (drums). I think Brian may be on the piano, but he's not shown close in this video. All but Bruce are original band members. Of course, Dennis and Carl are deceased now.
DENNIS AND THE BEACH BOYS ARE THE GREATEST!!!!...PERIOD👍
Agreed! 😎
always when I see the beach this song is on my mind
People never gave enough credit for how much Dennis kicked ass on the drums
They were so good.
I think this is the best version of "I Get Around" :D (sorry for my bad english xD)
@Tash21 Thanks:D
Don’t worry u made no mistake
Agreed! It rocks!
Dennis kicking ass!
Yes! Awesome drummer. 😎
Absolutely first class!! You GO Denny!!!!!
Beach Boys best band of all time
Dennis was a beast on this RIP ❤
I can hear Brian 😊 incredible harmony
go on Dennis! smash the shit outta those drums!!!!!
This is rockin' ! ! Dennis is kickin' ass ! Bruce on the Wurly, Brian is hangin', looks like Chris Hillman(the Byrds) playin' bass....kinda The Brits love the BB's. amazing !
Dennis was pounding the hell out of those drums.
Times that will never be replicated.
my friends think im weird for liking oldies music....but I LOVE OLDIES MUSIC!!!

The Beach Boys ft. Jesus Christ on drums
Lmaooo thats mad funny

I meet one of the beach boys after a show in Sarasota fl on February 18th 2020
Iba a comentar lo mismo.
maaan, I laughed out loud!
The drummer is fucking good !
Dennis Wilson was awesome! 😎
this was the apex and the end of the real Beach Boys, 1980 tour;
before the tragic death of Dennis, the band embracing synths/keyboards, Brian going full-on solo, Mike Love's coup d'état, Carl dying of cancer, etc.
No rock song touches the sublime but this gets pretty close. Just watched it about 15 times straight and I still want to watch it again.
cloverboat ive watched it 1000 times and can still wipe my own ass. Go for it man!
Same.
Same here!
It's just awesome, extraordinary, nice, expensive, impressively fun adventure
It reminds me of Harley Davidson motorcycles 🏍 🏍 🏍 🏍 🏍
This one's from the muppet show episode part pigs 🐖 🐷 on the motorcycles 🏍
This is how this song was meant to be done, with DW killing on the drums & Carl screaming on his Rickenbacker 1060 !! Miss You DW & Carl!!!
