The pianist David Hirschfelder went on to be in the John Farnham Band when they recorded Whispering Jack album and further. He did the arrangements for John’s concerts including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert that we all love. He went on to win awards for his music arranging.
When Nic does the head wobble we know he thinks it’s a ripper! 🤗 There is NOTHING John Farnham cannot sing. He’s got so much soul and groove in his voice and the band sound fantastic!
Little River Band are so underrated. They are one of the greatest old rock bands in history, let alone Autralia. And a super bonus having Farnsey in there too. Check out their other hits!
John and Wayne Nelson(the bass player) were ALWAYS great together. The high falsetto screech is coming from the the guy on the right(Goble), Wayne taught John how to BELT....Wayne was VERY GOOD too. Same bass player of Chain Reaction.
Graeham Goble is singing on top. He and John both say they learned a great deal about singing and intonation from each other. LRB were tight. David Hirschfelder was incredible on keys.
I believe it's because John wrote it. They were so much in debt to the record company, and only song writers got paid. He worked on the side to earn enough money to live, and came away carrying a large part of their debt.@@MandyRRAh
@@iankearns774 yeah I know it should’ve been the 3rd single from Playing To Win . But at this point they was trying to establish John as songwriter so he could get some royalties making 2 songs from the album that he was the leading songwriter as the singles Playing To Win and Blind Eyes . Don’t Blame Me seems to to Graham’s response to John’s Playing To Win or he’s interpretation how John was feeling .
@@markjames3522 The whole album is good, Blind Eyes and Cathedrals were white also great songs. I had the cassette in the car back in the day and played it all the time.
Ya know, his time with LRB brought him into focus of their management company, Management House, run by Glen Wheatley, formerly of the band, Master's Apprentice. Glen knew that he was onto a winner, he saw that the best of Farhnam was yet to come. The music industry owes a debt of gratitude to Wheatley and his belief that Farhnam wasn't finished in his career. Franham's star just shon brighter and brighter. I was working for another band managed by the same management at the time, couldn't believe that Farhnam was replacing Shorrock.
@@ChrisFirth-do2sm thanks mate, I didn't know that he was already signed up with them, I was under the belief that he was being booked by Premier Artists previous to LRB. Live and learn.
It's a strange thing. Musically and vocally, LRB were awesome with Farnham. I think, however, that they sounded so different from the 'classic' line up that some people just resisted it. Perhaps they would have had more success under a different name to get rid of lingering expectations on the sound. But they are a crazy live band. . .and the harmonies. Wow.
Don’t Blame Me should’ve been a single in 1985 it’s from the underrated Playing To Win album . The whole style of the Playing To Win album was totally different to what Little River Band earlier music diehard LRB fans didn’t like the change musical style and blamed John . Another songs from the Playing To Win other than the awesome title track of the same name which John wrote and kept on his solo concert set lists . Is a song When Cathedrals Was White absolutely brilliant John vocals are at their strongest on that song . The LRB is very controversial there’s been over 30 members over decades. At this stage chief songwriter and only original member left was Graham Goble reality it was his band . Steven Prestwich from recently in 1984 broken up Cold Chisel on the drums David Hirschfelder keyboardist that left LRB same time as John and became John’s musical director until 1993 . David went to be a successful movie film score composer musician even got nominated for a Academy Award . American Wayne Nelson on bass he also played bass for John on and off juggling his commitments with LRB until 1991 . He is the current lead singer of LRB the current lineup hasn’t got any original members and zero Australians . Stephen Housden guitarist he is holder of the naming rights of the band and his stopping the original members to reform und their name they created in 1975 . Stephen is now retired and living in Ireland. This lineup was so underrated extremely talented and unappreciated .
Little River Band is a band that’s been going since 1975…. Now in a different incarnation…..with the bass player in this lineup the lead singer ( Wayne Nelson)…..this song from the Playing to Win Album….even though John appeared on 3 LRB albums… this one , The Net, No Reins… and got to play in the U.S … he never really had the success that he should have got …. Some reports suggest that the U.S label Capital wouldn’t release a LRB vocal with John on it as a Single A side preferring Wayne’s Vocals….( a shame if true)….when John left in 86….original lead singer Glenn Shorrock returned…… side note David Hirschfelder piano was later in John’s band…. Steve Prestwich ( drums) was a member of Cold Chisel and a great songwriter sadly passed .
You have to listen to “when something is wrong with my baby” by John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes, any version , it’s incredible! Also suggest Wrinkles by John Williamson or Dolly Partons cover of Stairway to heaven!
Little River Band were all about harmonies. To be honest I never took much notice of the years they did with John Farnham, I prefer them with Glen Shorrock and John doing his solo thing.
The classic LRB was fantastic , but egos clashed unfortunately . Last album with Glenn Shorrock Time Exposure they didn’t even record it together they went into studio separately so they wouldn’t clash . Glenn wrote some LRB’s best songs like Help Is On It’s Way , Home On A Monday and Cool Change but couldn’t keep up with Graham Goble’s songwriting Graham was out writing Glenn . Glenn was fighting hard to get his songs recorded. Graham firing Glenn and then hiring John totally strategic move by Graham. John was only a casual songwriter , Graham knew that their wouldn’t be any argument over John trying to get his songs on an album.
Sadly John Farnham is SOLD his soul. John has allowed the Labor Party, who wish to use Indigenous Australians as leverage, to STEAL OUR LAND RIGHTS - to use his song 'You're the Voice' for this CON JOB on ALL Australians. Believe it or not Paul Kelly has also backed 'The Voice' . I was a HUGE fan of BOTH of these artists, featured on this channel. This is a VERY SAD time for Australia. We have a Referendum on October 14th to vote on this, 'The Voice' CON JOB, as a nation. I will not go on a full on rant here, as this is a music review channel. I enjoy the reactions, and how Australian music has been showcased. I hope no more big names fall. 🙏
This is a joke, stop it. John can do what he pleases based on his conscience and values, you can do the same but to try and bring him down and say he sold his soul disgraceful and utterly wrong.
You should be ashamed of yourself John Farnham done more for Australian than anyone. When there's a disaster concert, he is there and support our troops overseas he was there, before covid started he allowed mich Tambo to help sing his song for Fire Aid so it's no surprise that he supports indigenous Australian, everyone has the right to there opinion without judgement, And Referdum not about indigenous stealing land rights, your one of the misinformed people that like to spread fake information you should be ashamed John Farnham has the right to his Opinion without being judged for it, You're The Voice Song lyrics is one of appropriate songs for this Referendum for the YES or NO camps "You're the voice. try and Understand it Make a Noise and Make it clear", these lyrics Can apply To the No Vote aswell as The Yes Vote it shouldn't matter if John Farnham if you were a fan before he allowed his song to the YES camp judging him on his support and not on his talent and helping Australians when in need is wrong, fans should still remain fans what ever John Farnham Opinion is of The Referendum, no one has the right to judge someone based on there opinions.
What a brilliant bunch of masters of their craft❤❤❤
The true little river band.
"Playing to Win" is my favorite LRB album...😝
The beauty of John, is when he sings, he Ssssssiiiiiiinnnnnnngssss 🥰

Won 4 APRA
We cannot get enough of John Farnham and David Hirschfelder goes alright too 🤩🎶
I think Hirschfelder doesn't get enough credit for Farnham's solo stuff. There was a difference in the arrangements when he left.
Hirschfelder is the man! His talent is endless!

this song is almost 'new wave' style like crowded house or split enz n.z group
I had the album and was a BIG fan. America was asleep during the Playing To Win album.
My favourite LRB song with JF, is Down On The Border 💗👌
Graeham Goble is singing on top. He and John both say they learned a great deal about singing and intonation from each other. LRB were tight. David Hirschfelder was incredible on keys.
But he also ripped john off with copyrights Playing to win, John only got 45% of royalties
