  • In this video I share with you the procedure on how to remove, disassemble, clean and reassemble the bolt (carrier group) from the Remington 710 bolt action rifle. I made this video because on UA-cam I didn't see any videos for this procedure that were easy to view and follow so I made one myself. Please, let me know any tips or tricks you guys use when you disassemble and clean your bolts from your rifles. Thanks!!

Something that I forgot to mention. You need to push the bolt release lever back down once you have placed the bolt back into the receiver and have locked the bolt handle back into place.

I am a pistol guy and bought a 770 in .308 for my great nephew but the bolt handle broke as they often due. Sent it to Alaska to a guy who TIGs them properly (instead of silver soldier). Didn't touch it for a year and went to install the bolt.
The head was 180 out. (We all make mistakes). You video helped me fix it. Thanks.

@CraigMiller How about an addy for that Alaska fellow and what he charged you? Also, how is the repair holding? I have a 770 and the bolt handle is ok so far, but I'd like to have it reinforced via a tig weld so it won't break in the future.

I can't believe how much difference that makes. I rarely clean the bolt on my rifles unless they get wet. Cleaning this one out I found grease inside that reminded me of the packing grease on a new Mosin-Nagant. After I cleaned up and added a little light lube, it really wasn't that bad.

Just bought a .308 770 from my father in-law for a steal but it was in serious need of tlc. Gummy bolt, horrible trigger action and surface rust. After following along with this vid for cleaning the bolt, copious amounts of CLP and 0000 steel wool, I'm confident I can fill my freezer this fall. It may be a budget rifle, but after a good deep cleaning, it cycles and functions way better than people claim it does from the factory. On to spraypainting camo on it next. Thanks so much for this. I found tons of vids on field stripping but nothing this detailed for the bolt. You turned my almost-regrettable purchase into a rifle I'm happy to beat up and put to good use.

Great how to video Travis. I've had my 710 (30-06) since 2007 and love it. I don't understand the complaints either. The action on mine is just as smooth as any other bolt action I have. Accuracy is pretty awesome for my needs. Winchester 180 grain ammo from Wally World and holding a 1 1/2" grouping at 200 yards... I've been looking for a 710 in .243, so I am a bit jealous of yours. Especially a good broken in rifle. Thanks for the info and have a great day.

Son ripped the bolt out while checking the site a couple weeks ago, haven’t been able to get it back in since, everything looked right but wasn’t lining up, when you mentioned the small half cock notch I put that hook there and it got everything lined lined up properly, the hook was in the big notch before since it wasn’t removed properly. Interestingly, the 770 solved the bolt head problem, it can only go on one way. Or at least the 770 I have is like this. There is a flat inside the bolt bore so the head can only go on one way. Too bad they still hadn't figured out the problem of the bolt handle breaking off, or the bolt stop fracturing. Thankfully someone in this thread mentioned ACCU-TIG as a good solution to the bolt handle problem.

Good info........I took mine apart to clean all the grease out, buff, and re-lube..........Simple. I use this 30.06 for long shots....The factory scope is good for 200 yds. I normally don't shoot wildlife more than 100 yds. If the target was more than 200 yds, I'd definitely get another scope.....So the package fits my purpose. I got it at a good price and it only had maybe five shots through it. Bought it for $75 so I'm not complaining. Just had to clean all the packing grease. Have an armorers certification through the military but their weapons are somewhat different than civilian models............Thanks

30/06 has noticeable more power that 308. 308 May be slightly more accurate for those shotters who shoot 1000 yards and slit hairs. Myself??? Im not one of this guys. 250 to 300 yards is more than enough for hunting or for overwatch in a defensive compasity. If I can hit a small melon at a little over 300 yards in content. Idk anywhere in at where there is 300 plus yards of open land. You can get 5. 6 7 hundred yards if you want. I just site mine in at barely over 100. After that I can hit anything w in 300 yards dead

The trigger may be adjustable. I no longer have this rifle as I sold it to a friend but there may be an instruction manual that you can find online for it that would show you how to lighten the trigger. Usually, there is a screw to do this on the trigger group.

@@travisp11 to be clear. In my case i scratched 783 bolt plug. it is bothering me - mean I have to spend extra 20 bucks on the new part.
again don't feel bad it is not your fault. your instructions was clear. it mostly my skills.

Khatuntcov Mikhail yeah, those parts are easy to scratch. Even the instruction manual says to use pliers which surprised me.

Very nice! I just picked up a used one chambered 270 up for $250. I want to paint it because I don’t care for the urban camo grey or whatever it is. But I’m looking forward to getting some range time in with it. Your videos look pretty interesting so I subd. 😎👍🏼
