I couldn't find the lyrics anywhere so here they are :)
Well my grandpa owned a racehorse, and her name was Victory Chimes.
She did the mile in two-o-eight and sometimes two-o-nine.
I can hear that old man yell, “Son, we’ve still got time,”
Before they shut them windows down to on Victory Chimes.
Well she won the pace at the county track and third at the Thompson fair,
And I don’t believe the leather whip ever came close to that mare.
My grandpa, he’d just say, “Soft and little gal, you’re running fine,”
And we was riding right on top in the back of Victory Chimes.
Victory Chimes, she’s a winner every time, see old Victory flying down the line.
Victory Chimes, I wish that horse was mine; there was never a horse like Victory Chimes.
Then came the day that we put the hay in the sulky in the truck,
And we shot on down to Rockingham just to try and change our luck.
My grandpa, he pawned all he had and then took every dime
And stuck it in my hand and said, “Put it all on Victory Chimes.”
Victory Chimes, she’s a winner every time, see old Victory flying down the line.
Victory Chimes, I wish that horse was mine; there was never a horse like Victory Chimes.
Now you can talk about excitement; well, it was a hell of a race.
Victory bolted from that gate, left nothing there but space. She did the quarter in 28
And the half in 59. It was a new world record on the way and right on Victory Chimes.
And somewhere out of nowhere, I could not tell for sure, but the crowd jumped up in the grandstand, and I had seen an awful blur. A horse called Reckless Abby came flying from behind to the records and the roses and for damn sure Victory Chimes.
We sold her off next morning for 50 dollars cash. My old grandpa, he took that money,
And he took my hands, and he made a dash straight back towards the grandstand,
And it made my spirits climb, when he said,
“Here son, put that 50 back on the nose of good old Victory Chimes.”
My grandpa owned a racehorse, and her name was Victory Chimes.

Wish I could find a copy of this. I loved this when it came out, and the bits of it I've still managed to hear over the years (Wasn't That A Party, Victory Chimes, Here's to the Horses, Matchstick Men) have all held up. Thanks!

I'm sure, as a kid, I heard a guy named Jud Strunk (Daisy a Day) play a version of Victory Chimes on The Tommy Hunter Show or Rowan and Martin but cannot find it anywhere!

Jud Strunk wrote the song, I believe.
