      I think in the short term, Bezos is a lesser evil compared to Musk. In the long term, it's just not healthy for anyone in society to have that much wealth. The right to own property is not unlimited or absolute.

    One of Amazon’s worst practices is to monitor what goods sell the best on their site, then start making those products themselves, sell them at lower prices (because they control all the sales and pricing data) and put their own suppliers out of business. Utterly anticompetitive.

    If you do not live in a suburban hub, Amazon sucks ditch water. I live in The middle of nowhere, Arizona. My Amazon orders come in the mail. There is no two day delivery, or even shipping tracking. My orders can be in my mailbox or at the local post office which is 20 minutes away or at the Kingman post office which is 50 miles away. I literally have no way of knowing until I’m at my mailbox where my order is. They literally provide nothing in their prime, everything is an add-on. They want me to pay them $120 a year for my orders to be crushed in the mail and for crap selection of television. It will never happen again, I learned my lesson, the hard way, and multiple crushed and destroyed packages later.

    • @bertwilson4311
      @bertwilson4311 5 місяців тому +6

      I do not live in a suburban hub; in fact, I live 135 miles from the nearest traffic light. Amazon is a godsend to us. After dealing with retailers that won't ship to Alaska, including most sellers on eBay, sellers that charge $80 to ship items that could fit in a business envelope, I'll gladly accept the free 1-week shipping that Amazon offers. All those places that offer "free shipping on orders over $xxx" ? None of them offers so much as a discount on shipping to my address. I hate big companies, and try to avoid them where possible, but there is no one even close when it comes to rural customers.

    • @-Gramps

      Same experience here in rural central Texas, as you have experienced in Arizona. The only exception is that we occasionally have rain, which means my mail delivery person sets the 24”x24” cardboard box in a mud puddle. If I need to return something, I am obligated to drive 48 miles (round trip) to a UPS drop off location, or pay $7.50 fee to have UPS pick it up from my home- the original delivery location.

    I've never used Amazon because I believe in buying local. Local companies and their employees pay taxes, which supports schools & infrastructure. This does involve more time looking and sometimes doing without, but I don’t mind the physical and intellectual challenge of buying local. But I live in a suburb with a lot of shopping options.

    No Amazon is not a good company. I have a back injury due to Amazon testing machine equipment that caused me to be out of work for a year and a half because I couldn't walk. A year of that was fighting with my mandated Amazon approved doctor who told me I was ok to work even though I was in intractable pain. 50000 in savings gone as well as 40000 in credit card debt to cover my bills. So fck Amazon, they have made my life infinitely worse.

For example, imagine that Rudy Giuliani, Alex Jones or Donald Trump don't pay up sufficiently, regarding the penalties they have to pay.

    No Tim. Amazon has not improved our lives. And if you really are interested in the value of free markets - well that value comes from small businesses vying for customers. Immense players like Amazon can use market power in any market they choose and usually win. The destruciton of small retail via Walmart, Amazon et al, has destroyed the business districts of towns across America. So no. Some were advantaged but overall American life got worse.

    Um free shipping is not a convenience. Sometimes, certainly at the time Amazon started, is half the cost. I agree, Amazon has too many tentacles. I don't think ANY business, corporation should be allowed to have so many. But lets talk about the heart, the foundation of the problem instead of just one face behind it. Let's talk about unbridled predatory capitalism. Capitalism was an issue that some say allowed Hitler to rise. Yeah, let's talk about that.
