You said clearly in less than 2 minutes what most can't say clearly in 20. Thanks.
I've watched numerous videos on this topic and was still confused. This one is by far the best and easiest explanation to understand. Great job and thank you!
Thank you glad this helped
Totally agree. The easiest and clearest video for determining the bypass valve direction. Thank you!
5 years later, and people are still learning this! Thanks for the cutaway-it was just what I needed !
Thank you so much. I have been scratching my head for hours not understanding why I did not have hot water. Again thank you!
Happy to help, Timothy!
That was probably the most useful short video of I have seen explaining my hot water system. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Be sure to subscribe and check out the other videos. We do a ton of videos with useful info like this

Perfectly explained. There's an old saying " I can explain it to you but I cant understand it for you." well, this explanation allowed both to happen.

thank you!! This was perfect in explanation and EXACTLY what I needed to know, I can't believe the manual to my camper trailer did NOT convey this.
What a wonderful video! This is what I was looking for all this time. Thank you! Much appreciated sir.
I echo all of the other comments. This was an incredible video. Thanks for actually showing us the system, and for your simple explanation of one setting for summer and one setting for Winter. I'm sure your RV center is in a different town, but if it were near me, I would go all of the time! For those of you who are near this RV center, go! We need to keep places where technicians are this helpful open!
Glad it helped! But I am not a tech just got great techs that teach me and we are your local RV dealership. Ask us any topic and we might be able to do a video on it for you. If not I will try to explain why

Watching this video was so refreshing for me. I'm going to Winterize my 2014 Tracer Air myself right after this week's camping trip and I was fretting over this procedure, but it can't be explained more clearly than you have done. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are always extremely helpful. Thanks for posting!

Duh! First trip out wife took a shower and had two minutes of warm water. OOPS! The middle valve wasn't shut off. Thanks for the video!
Happy to help!
Will bypassing it like this work if your hot water tank is cracked but you still need to have water cuz you can't get your tank fixed yet
Great explanation. You saved me a massive headache. 👍🏽
Glad it helped. Hopefully we saved you some money and a headache
Great to hear!
I have 2 valves. Should they both be open?
Was told not to let anti freeze in tank. Is that incorrect. Believe I got that fro my manual
How about a video on using your gas/electric to get your water heater working.
That has just been added to the list! Thank you I talk about it from time to time but it is a video that needs done
MARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Video idea and it is a good one!
Did you see we uploaded a video on this?

Gotta love spending over 30k on a keystone trailer to find they don't have a bypass valve for the water heater or the water pump intake
Yes another reason Keystone RV Center does not sell Keystone RV Trailers. Confusing I know we had the name first because we are in Pennsylvania the Keystone State
-JR
Hi Great video. I would like to sanitize my lines. I do the same for them . Also is bleach ok . Will it wreck any valves or gaskets. Thanks
We are going to be doing a video on this
2013 21fbrs water system valve settings for water pump. Is there a different valve set up for running city water or the water pump? When I have the water pump on it seems like it has constant air in the lines, but not when i'm hooked to city water. There are 3 valves up near the pump and I'm not sure which ones should be open/closed in the pump mode. I have the by pass valve set closed, all others are open.
Sounds like the winterize valve is open on the water pump
Would this be the same technique in order to sterilize my fresh water holding tank and all the lines in my Keystone Cougar travel trailer? Thanks for the great explanation!!
No it is not but we will be doing a video on this soon
-JR
@@KeystoneRVCenter thanks. I figured it out. My system is a single lever system.
Good information but is it really a hot water heater or a water heater? Messing with you. Thanks for sharing this information.
Both!
we are full-time in our Keystone Cougar 5th Wheel. It is 108 degrees here in Texas today so not winterizing. We are hooked up to city water and suddenly when we turn the faucet to hot water we get nothing on any faucet. Cold water side of faucets work fine. We have made no changes and haven't touched the water heater. What would cause this to happen and how can we correct the problem. Thank you in advance for your help or advice.
Was it working at any other faucets? Sorry this came in between Hershey and when I lost the password for my old account. Trying to catch up on comments.
Any updates ?
Where do I find that!!!! We have a new 2019 Jayco Pinnacle 38FLWS .... Kitchen sink water is only getting warm!! My specs show we have a water heater bypass but where???
Sorry just seen this. Should be in the front passthrough area on the drivers side
thanks for the video.. why are hot water tanks filled at the bottom instead of the top? seems backwards
No idea....just the way they do them
This video was excellent. Short, sweet, and easy to understand. I was looking for confirmation on the chart included with my used RV. But, I'm having an issue (which instigated this check/double check/check again on the valves). I winterized recently and did the bypass properly. Today I pulled the RV out of storage for a trip starting tomorrow and cleared everything out of the system and then turned the bypass valve back to closed and opened the hot/cold lines. The only time I heard water filling though was when the bypass was open. And once things were filled and heated I turned it back to close (per your video and my manual/diagram) but the hot water and water pump keep sputtering and spewing air...like there is some missed connection. Turn the bypass valve and it all runs smoothly, but as you said it is not HOT because of the mixing of the cold water. Ideas? Was I too impatient waiting on the water pump to catch up? I'll have full city water hook up tomorrow and will close the bypass again and see if I can get things to work right.
Try bleeding the unit with the water heater pressure release valve
@@therealjr9175 I have the same problem, when valve os inline, water is barely coming out. When in bypass, it flows freely. I tried the release valve, and it still doesn't work. :-( Any other ideas? 2014 Whitewater Retro 150. Nothing on the net to help on these trailers. Suburban water heater, no on/off switch on the outside, just inside.
Jen Fugit, did you get yours to work? Mine is having the same problem.
Did that work?
It apparently did, is working fine now and I don’t recall posting this comment. Hahaha!
We have a 2021 Lance 2375. It has a black lever attached to the blue pipe that feeds the hot water tank and it has another black lever attached to the water pump. Is this the bypass value?
A valve attached to the water pump sounds like it would be for the water pump bypass
I have plastic valve handles and the one that connects the hot and cold lines has lost the screw, and I can’t get it to turn to open up. Any idea where I can order a replacement handle and screw?
Not that I know of
So, just where are these located in the RV? I have a 2002 Keystone Montana.
They are typically the back of the hot water heater. I find them by referencing the location of the hot water heater on the outside of the trailer and locating a access panel inside roughly the same location. I am not familiar with the Montana.
Pennsylvania is the Keystone state and that is how we got our name. The manufacture came along after. Sorry I can not help with the exact location but this should get you going in the write direction. Check some of our other videos out on winterizing and that may help
Did you get this figured out?
We're having trouble getting the water heater lit in our 2003 Tail-gaiter we just purchased, We tried using the ignitor and it's not working. What could it be? Any suggestions!??
Have you tried lighting the stove first to purge the air from the LP lines?
Got gas to the line?
Very simple and well put thank you… But actually it’s a cold water heater or just water heater. 😝
Glad it could help! I know we joke about this all the time cold water heater haha
We did a video laughing about this very subject We have done a bunch of new videos that maybe helpful. Check them out

My hot water tank only has two valves. Any suggestions on how to set these valves? The water tank heats the water but it doesn't come through the RV.
We did one on our instagram about this. Change from current locations. We will be updating this video to show the new valve designs
I have a 22 jayflight SLX 324bds. I only see two valves…. Where would the other valve be?
They have switched to a two valve system
-JR
My unit only has a valve on the cold (inlet) and a valve on the hot (outlet) side of the heater. There is no “bypass” valve to allow the water to flow on through the system. In the case, just flip them both and winterize as needed or what?
Thats correct some do some do not have 3 valve. We see 2 valves more and more common now and even some single valve
Did you get this figured out?
Is it the same for a Truma
Do not deal with them enough to give you an answer on that.
I contacted my Tankless manufacture and got an email showing how to do mine. Paper trail
-JR
But keystone not make bypass this way, my keystone hot water tank is a only one shut off valve on it, why?
So we are Keystone RV Center in Pennsylvania the Keystone state who had the name before Keystone RV Manufacture. Some campers use a single valve bypass just depends
What about a 1 valve system ?
Turn the one valve to where it say winterize. You should see a red lever to do so
Yes I have a same problem from factory!
So this isn’t bypass kit?
I don't have a "hot water" heater, I only have a "cold" water heater.
So true
Though of you the entire time I shot the Hot water heater video
-JR
Would an open bypass also cause hot water to come out the cold side?
Not the way the pressure would work. I do not see how it could
Did you get this figured out?
@@KeystoneRVCenter I really don’t remember. I think I was looking for a reason how hot water could come out the cold side.
Wasn’t my problem, someone asked about it.
I remember, a friend asked why they had warm water on the cold side of one of the faucets. Turned out to be the outside shower was on but the quick disconnect hose was disconnected causing a bridge between hot and cold. Seen to affect one faucet more than the other because it was Very close to it.
Where have you been junior??
Going to do a video on that. I will give you a hint...if you hear in the news there was a top secret agent that was undercover as an RV salesman addicted to monsters and redbull that went out and saved the world....that was not me....
JR
I have a two valve system. Everyone shows the three, where can I find a two valve video?????????
Just flip both valves but we will make one soon
why do all RVs not have a water heater bypass built-in, I would think it would be essential for winterization process and long term storage when not in colder climates
I am not aware of anyone currently building one that does not have it
What brand do you have?
Where do I find those valves
Find where your hot water heater is on the outside, make a reference to where it is like by a window or slide or wherever it is and go inside. The back of your hot water heater has the valves so they typically have a panel covering of some kind
We will be doing a video on this
I can't even get to the back of my water heater, it's all enclosed in the pass through..
Whereis by pass valve on 2017 passpoert217
We do not sell Keystone products were are just from the Keystone State of Pennsylvania BUT it should be located directly on the backside of the water heater. We talk about easily locating them on our Catalina winterizing video
On the back of the water heater typically
Thank u bro !
Happy to help!
