i'm sorry in advance for any scuffed audio/too low of my voice! i had issues halfway through the episode and had to troubleshoot/replay the entire first part, so by the time i could continue, it was late at night. one of my "neighbors" is an elderly fellow named Tom, whose bedtime is early, and i didn't want to wake him up.
i'll be sure to record earlier in the day for future episodes so i can still talk at a decent volume/turn down the audio in the game slightly!
i'm honeslty just glad i still have my youtube community and can play video games while i'm out here. i was worried i would be off the grid for months, but it's a lot less lonely with y'all here!
many thanks,
e
Finally got to finish it after many starts and stops, you’ve got nothing to apologise for, ASMR GoW is a cozy vibe…
Tell Tom we say hi

"What is this orange circle?" - I have never laughed so much in my life
AHHAHAH i will never live this one down...
@@eralia In your defence, the colour on screen doesn't match what's on the controller. The circle button was red for 25 years before Sony stupidly made all the PS5 buttons uncoloured. None of them were orange, and maybe that's a bug of the emulation.
@@lonestranger i just looked at my controller and realized they are not colored lol
@@hectorquintero8839 Not only that, but every PS5 game's UI has white & black button prompts. Even games that have been updated from the PS4 version, where they have coloured prompts. It's weird that they removed such a noticeable part of their branding.
@@lonestranger I never even realised they had stopped colouring the buttons 😮
eralia: these are innocent people
Kratos: yes, I imagine they were
What a funny comment 😂
yes, i did the entire serpent fight without blocking. no i dont want to talk about it (self-imposed hard mode)
I'm impressed though, that first part is brutal lol
I’ve yet to watch and I haven’t skimmed the comments so I’m not sure if someone else mentioned this yet, or if I mentioned it on you clip you posted earlier, be careful after dying because as you might have noticed the game will ask you at some point if you want to switch to an easier mode, and if you die multiple times as many of us have with some sections of this name, it’s easy to accidentally lower the game difficultly level by accident as you are trying to with frustration of dying, quickly reload your last checkpoint.
It's ok, your dreams will remind you of your L's
In your defense, the game doesn’t really explain the blocking all that well in this first one. This was made back when they more assumed players would have manuals.
By the way, since you brought it up early on, the PS3 emulator doesn't have this feature but if the rapid button presses start hurting your hands you can just set up a rapid press command by launching the game(emulator) as non-steam game through steam big picture and using steam input
When you're already in a game and using your controller:
Shift+Tab, Controller settings, Edit layout. You can probably do it through controller only using PS button in big picture to get to the overlay and do the same way as Steam Deck.
Once there, any button you want Cog ⚙, Settings
Turn hold to repeat (Turbo) on, Set the delay (Fire start delay) to how long you want to hold the button before it starts auto mashing. You can set it up other ways to use combo of buttons too. But in GOW's case the game never asks you to hold Circle so you set that to rapid press.
Circle button prompts are the worst in OG GOW and running prompts in RE4 2005 version is pretty rough on the hands at parts too. I do this now because I have played the game several times and my joints aren't what my 13 year old self used to have. I can still do it but I don't care to.
Alternative that is good to know using the PS2 emulator you can set something up in its own emulator settings, but I recommend Steam for most use cases.

@@eralia The irony of playing God of War while deployed. You're awesome.
"I don't have to kill these innocent people"
*brings down the wrath of the Blades of Chaos and annihilates them*
OOPS
@@eralia A little tip for any of these OG GOW games: aggression is always rewarded, and innocent people are just a resource for green orbs.
Yup. We oldies live for gameplay like this. Lookin' forward to this playtbough of yours.
Damn man oldies? I played my first GOW game in 2010, Chains of Olympus. You're making me feel old.
@@nikitakuznetsov8446 you are old... we all are...
@@nikitakuznetsov8446this game came out in 2005, those who played this game on release is already eligible for senior discount
I love that you're playing the older games now! YESSS 🔥
Ahaaaa...!
What I love about this game, aside from all the dope puzzles, is that the bosses really make you work for it. Im so stoked you're jumping into it!
1:00:15 The Boat Captain NPC. His only purpose is to show the player how much of a-hole antihero Kratos is at this point of his life. But we all love this guy.
I see too often reactors apply modern gaming sense to older games if they're not familiar with them. Don't try to overthink too much with this game. I see what you're thinking when you're analysing the Hydra fight by asking if you need to climb. They didn't think of that back then. It's very simple. See a prompt, go near it, and just press the button. Think in simpler terms when playing these games. Especially since it's a hack 'n' slash game. The game mechanics are fast. There isn't a whole lot of steps to defeating bosses. It's just drain life until the mini game. The game itself really does the rest of the action.
Well said
Yeah , but it contains harder puzzles and crazy hidden chests
@@The-07-Legend it's alway forward though. You don't backtrack in this game. You only move in circles to open areas not accessible. But you always move forward.
@@juliangrant9718 yep but i am sure 90% of who played haven’t find at least 40% of chests and the puzzles are harder especially in gow2 .harder puzzles than the new ones.
@@The-07-Legend definitely. Lucky for a game like this you don't really need every secret chest. Maxing out Kratos is assured without them. Unlike the GOW2018 where it's like "I need that Valkyrie armour so I got drip to fight Bauldr." She's very thorough with exploration so I imagine she'll come across most of them.
TC Carson is the original Greek Era, voice of Kratos, his older self in the Norse era is played by Christopher Judge.
And yet, they both sound the same XD. I thought it WAS Christopher Judge in the original GoW, because I thought "That sounds like Teal'c from 'Stargate: SG-1!"
I loved TC in Living Single!
Spinning orange disc Now that's a great description 😂 don't worry you'll get us to it
the older games sometimes can be a little on explaining
Prime example why it was a bad idea to remove the face button colours on the duelsense.
Adding motion controls was a worse idea. They wanted to catch up to Nintendo with their motion sensing controller and devs experimented with it (or were forced to by Sony more likely) and did so in all the worst ways. Fir instance with the six axis controller Naughty Dog used it to control the arc of grenades before you throw them… sounds like a cool idea, on paper, in gameplay it’s a terrible feature that takes too much time and curtails the flow of action. Thankfully they removed this “feature” from the remasters.
best vid i ever watched you made it feel like you are playing it in 2005 with webcam thank you , you made my day and keep going i support you
thanks so much 🥹
I'm loving these ASMR gameplays😂
But for real, thanks for uploding videos for us even in this situations
thank you for watching them!
I’m so excited to see you play this!! Now this is the “God Of War” that I know and love. God Of War 2 was the first game I ever played all the way back on the PS2 when I was like 5 or something (probably shouldn’t have been playing at that age lol). I have all of the Og GOW games on my PS3 these days!! ❤️🔥
Normally I'm okay with someone choosing to play games in whatever order they want, but when Kratos said, "Then I must go home...and pick up something I swore off long ago" (or however he said it) those of us who played the original games, who knew what he was talking about, started FREAKING OUT!!!
So exicted for this , can't wait !!
Yup. The box doing exactly what it is there for, making you tune into Kratos' limitless rage XD
I feel the frustration. I remember saying very unkind thing to my television at certain moments back in 2005. You're always so much fun to watch, thank you!
Not sure how I feel about 2005 God of War being the oldest game you’ve played. Makes me feel REALLY old haha.
Yeah. I'm 40, and that's making me feel ancient now...
Not to worry, you're learning in the beginning. You'll be fine. GoW 2005 was considered one of the toughest ARPG back then. Seeing you playing it again brings back lots of memories. Cheers!
thank you!! i have to be nice to myself and remember everyone sucked their first time playing these games, haha. :)
@@eralia Oh and go easy on your gamepad. I broke my thumbstick on my ps2 gamepad when I first played this game, accidentally of course. Lol.
thanks so much eralia for still playing and uploading 🤩 i really like your playthroughs
Back when you could block almost everything in the game XD totally forgot about that. Giant monster trying to literally bite you? Just block XD
Now you know the true pain of older games. Welcome to mash city.
The music is iconic, still hum it randomly
I think most of us picking up the OG God of War were just more in tune with the design sensibilities of the times. Gaming was a very different landscape back then, but for those of us regular gamers, this was all much more intuitive.
I am already excited for part 2. I’m pretty decent at the god of war games and it’s probably my favorite franchise so I love just going back and watching people play the games
Yeah this game has a completely different vibe after playing GOW 2018, glad to see you checked it out!
“I killed those who were deserving, and those who were not”
The box part had a simple trick to it. The archers shoot where you are going not where you are unless you are still but there is a delay because arrow travel time and animation. Change direction at the right time and they never hit you or the box. Watch the arrows firing for the sixth one and figure out you time between first and sixth. Using the charge to get from behind the bigger boxes when going left or right instead of slow push because slow push makes them shoot the box because it is the direction you are going at the pace you are averaging. Timing the charge so the box is way ahead of your predicted position also works. And the slow push can be used as deception on your part to bait an arrow and do a quick charge push. The arrow will be fired between you and the box. It's just a matter of timing pushes between shots and baiting arrows to the wrong direction. If you figure it out and execute, they never hit you or the box. This takes time to learn though and isn't obvious on the first playthrough for most. The reason I got right away is I played games in that era like Ratchet, Sly, and Jak all of which had the same style AI on delay projectiles that you had to dodge by juking going back three years earlier. If you knew how to not get hit in those games you figure out the box puzzle fast.
Cant wait to see you experience the "young" kratos story.I can imagine it was cool to see him in the new game thorwing around 1 ton tree logs, and killing dragon with ease, moving heavy objects but its like 30% of his old power, even when kratos was mortal. One thing i personnaly dont like about the 2 old god of wars is that, games back then wasant focused around story telling like nowadays.U have to play 3-4 gameplay to just watch few cutscenes whats 2-3 min long. But totally worth it,U will eventually understand why kratos didint wanted to tell atreus anything about his past. For me Kratos is the most badass fictional character thats EVER been created to a game.
Lol, ur expressions are so funny. I'm glad you're doing the greek mythology games now after doing God of War 2018 earned a new subscriber. Keep up the great work👍🏽
Glad to see you recognized how hard the first GOW is lol. But trust me…it gets harder lol. Can’t wait to see the rest of the play through! And HUGE respect for doing everything that you’re doing/pursuing. Keep it up and keep going! You can do it!
Always avoid jumping when fighting Gorgons. If you fall while stoned (hehe) then you'll immediately die, as you saw multiple times.
You will find out how scared this man was and will really show you how much he has grown from the damage in the 2018 version lets goo! This trilogy is soo good
I remember what made me try this game the first time. My parents had just gotten Direct TV and with that came a few new channels and networks I'd never heard of before. On of those was the (original) G4 Network, and on that channel was a video game review show X-Play. After watching a couple of episodes, I noticed that I actually agreed with the majority of their reviews, which doesn't always happen with video game reviews. They had their end of the year awards, and they gave their top 10 of best games for each console. They summed up God of War as "the ass kicking-est game we've ever played."
I tried the game, loved it and over time God of War became my favorite game franchise ever. Every game in the franchise is incredible, and I hope you enjoy your playthrough of the franchise too.
I’m glad we get to see more from you while you’re out there. Stay safe and as always thank you for your continuing service, especially in these chaotic times.
Eralia! 2005 God of War! That is awesome, I hope you like it. One of my favorites from the ps2 era. Speaking of ps2, I found 2 and they both work! Gonna revisit some old school games! Have a great day!
1:15:53 Yea, in GOW 1 Kratos is a mortal who has a little divine power from his blade which he obtained from a god, namely Ares, his half-brother. and here he also works for Athena, who is also his half-sister. You could say this is a family war from one father (Zeus).
Anybody else think Detroit become human would be a perfect game for eralia?
Yeeeesssss
Yeah that’s up her alley for sure
i love the cozyness of these vids hope u make more
thank you so much! glad yall are liking them even if theyre not fancy quality :')
Watching you today reminded me why I absolutely love the original god of war games, particularly this one. It might be my favorite in the series. There's nothing like it.
As with the 2018 release you can see that the need to backtrack are set ups to reaching new areas. That never changed throughout any of the titles and there are behind the camera items to find as well. Like in some rooms you don’t think there is something but when you look there actually is. Glad you are liking the game enough to try the OG games but in a way that is a great introduction for you as a new generational player getting to play the newest entries first. This way when you go back to the newest release later on you have the full picture of Kratos’s past with the gods of his pantheon
It’s kind of perfect you’re going to get Kratos’ backstory before jumping into GoW: Ragnarok. There’s one particular moment nearing the end in this one that I’m looking forward to seeing your reaction.
Pretty much everyone I’ve seen who’s first played the 2018 GoW then played the older games always comes out appreciating Kratos so much more. It’s also fun to see how people playing these first three handle the Aphrodite scene. Oh, and remember the ship captain. That’s important-ish.
I need a sticker that says "don't touch my @#%^!*$ box"
😂😂😂
Oh man the nostalgia is real with this game. Now I wanna play it again!
YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Are you gonna play GoW 1, 2 and 3 before you start Ragnarok? Also, if you have any down time, might I suggest you watch some "Making of the Game" videos on UA-cam. It's so f***ing cool to see what went into making the God of War games. Espeially 2018 and Ragnarok. 😍😁
yepp im playing the olde ones first!!!!
When people talk about GOW "making of" videos, I always think back to the GOW2 doc. Cory Barlog (director) was FRIED, holy shit. The crunch must have been absolutely brutal. GOW2 was an amazing game, though. Scale, boss fights, graphics (for the PS2), everything.
Do NOT be too hard on yourself for this game. This shit is hard even on normal. I think in their spare time the devs also made a DMV simulator because they hate people. I think you can switch to easy at anytime if you want.
Sooo excited to watch you learn all about our boy! Thank you for sharing with us!!
These games love to hide chests. So you have to check around a lot.
Feel like I’ve always wanted to watch this game being played but didn’t feel like any “relevant” UA-cam has played it tbh, glad I can🙌🏾🙌🏾
Now you will see truth why he is god war 😈
(Sees a circle)
48:48 - eralia: "Curse these confounding conundrums! If only there was a way to decipher the meaning of the ancient and obscure arcane symbol these devious masterminds present me with!!!"
- ...In all seriousness though, I looked up the PS5 and am *DUMBFOUNDED* as to why the default controller lacks the distinctly colored buttons. Color coordination directly linking something on the controller to something on screen is one of the best ways to concisely convey information!!! It doesn't matter if it looks "childish" it *WORKS* dammit!
1:22:35 - Oh, you have *NO* idea... Cast time back about 10 years ago and Castlevania Symphony of the Night makes God of War look like a dominatrix ordering you around on a leash. Cast time back about 10 years before *_THAT_* and the original Metroid and Legend of Zelda games make it look like being strapped to an automated conveyer belt traveling down a perfectly straight hallway.
Pro tips:
1. Avoid rolling, this will only get you kill when you roll off the cliffs.
2. Block. Kratos can block almost anything.
3. Save first and every time you can. There is no autosave.
4. Explore before advancing. These games are linear and if miss a chest, you lose it.
5. Kill everything. Orbs = good. More red orbs means you can power up so get it wherever you can.
6. Put the controller down and use your index or middle fingers for the O rapid buttons, it’s quicker than your thumb and you avoid carpel tunnel.
7. Enjoy the game!
All Good advices except the 1st one
Absolutely love that u were encouraged to pay the og have to get the back story. These games have plenty of lore to explore. On one note when u use poseidons rage (if u choose to do so) u can quickly tap circle to do a bit more damage.
"Don't touch my box!" Is my daily mantra tbh
Launching the enemies is a very good move and While the enemies are in the air press a circle to grab them ( try to play with your food 😂)
From this day forth, let it be known that the circle button will now be called the spiny orange disk button!
I am going to watch these (as I haven't played them myself :D ) but I hope you won't forget the little story details and lines for GoW (2018) for when you play Ragnarok!
The Original God Of War Trilogy from PS2 to PS3 are the absolute best and I highly recommend them to anyone. ❤️🔥
So I knew you were doing this, I didn’t think this soon though… it’ll put an end to some grumbling. The only grumbling I have right now is myself for not reading or overlooking in my excitement the big “upcoming”’ label and tapping on it and being made sad it wasn’t out yet!
Excited to see how you manage to play whilst trying to keep your yelling in frustration in check. Maybe you should get a controller strap so you don’t toss your controller into your screen! (I jest… mostly)
Hi eralia! I just happen to run into your channel, thank you for playing my childhood franchise. In my opinion this is a great trilogy, I recommend playing it! Stay awesome
Wow, what a rough start you had, I admire your patience with this game, show how much you like Kratos and its history 🙂 I wonder if this will be the most stable emulator. We will pray to the gods so that there are no more problems from now on 🙏 Thx for playing it!
This play through is going to be so much fun y'all.😅
all aboard the struggle train, choo choo!!
Eraliaa have you thought about a second channel for movies, tv shows, anime and stuff?
👀👀
please play the full trilogy, you will love it, amazing video btw
The original God of War makes the newer God of War seem like a cake walk doesn't it?. At least that's how I felt. I remember when I heard about God of War 2018 and thinking I'm not buying this game if it's as hard as the last ones. Thankfully I found it a lot more manageable. Seriously huge props to anyone who finished all the original games. My nerves couldn't handle it :D.
9:54 "I keep trying to press normal God of War controls"
That's what happens when I try to play the newer ones (I have the original GoW controls basically hardwired into my brain).
Pls continue the series this is my favourite
I've never tried it but apparently there is a glitch where after you tear off Medusa's head, but before you freeze and kill the enemies, where you can clip through the wall to bypass the freezing 5 enemies before proceeding part of the challenge. And because you didn't complete the challenge you continue to get infinite magic for the rest of the game.
Yep or swap to Poseidon Rage and get exp off high hit combos and upgrade some stuff early. Though once you beat the game once you just wear a costume for infinite magic, freeze infiniite harpies and gain enough experience to max everything before the oracle.
Welcome to the rage side of gaming.
The nostalgia is crazyy i remember playing these games on my GOW edition PSP😩🥲
Such a nostalgic game
1:15:14 if you jumped on the bed you could’ve pressed R2 and gotten alot of orbs out of them
i like this voice actor better.. hated that they went with someone else!
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks the same about GOW. I died so many times!🤦🏻♂️
"It's a spinning orange disk".. That's what playing games backwards do to people 🐧nowadays games have more clues and perfect explanations. Old ones just had Wakandan alphabets
I’m looking forward to hearing what you’ll think once you finish the Greek saga. You’re perspective will be interesting to hear when you compare young to old Kratos
Gawd damn will this series' be a ride 😩🔥
I was quite happy to see you back in my feed. Although Kratos doesn't say Boy often enough.
Just so you know all of the gow games has the best story in gaming history best of story even if you don't enjoy gameplay because of it's an old game the story is very good so you should play all of gow games if you want
“Are we gonna get to meet a bunch of gods and get their abilities?” uhhhh… that’s one way of putting it lmao
Not gonna lie these games are way more difficult compared to the new ones.Even the puzzles gonna give you headache lol.But I really hope you continue playing and play all 3 games. You probably wont enjoy some of the figths but it will worth the story =)))
Just a heads up
Your magic attack gives you an invincibility frame so when ever you're cornered or low on health don't hesitate to use it
1:13:36 You meet Athena on the front of a boat in 2005 and we first see her in the 2018 game at the front of a boat.
That's a really great observation. Never noticed that.
I had a thought, maybe you can protect against corrupt save files by saving in multiple save slots as back ups
The good old days when games through you stright into the action & refused to hold your hand
Hello, I hope you are feeling very well. The truth is that the game is great and at first it is a little frustrating, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a little easier. When I saw that you would start with the one who goes out with his son, I was a little disappointed because you You would lose how incredible it is to use the swords of chaos again since you didn't have all the previous games but anyway I enjoy it, I really enjoy watching you play, greetings from Cancun, kisses
Ah yes, the golden age of gaming. The hack and slash, being truly, a hack and slash.
I'll enjoy this first time with you!! I have never played these games, merely read up on their stories. Interesting to see how it is presented!!
7:18 this is in fact not the serpent of worlds. It was just one of the many sea beasts from Greek mythology. Although these leviathan would be the scourge of many sailors back in those stories.
17:50 well excuuuuuuuse me. This is straight up the Hydra?! I had the Disney version in mind. I guess this is the sea serpent looking one.
25:08 ...I have no idea. I think some of these games were REALLY unforgiving. Geez, this is...I do wonder, what are we missing?
33:00 Yessss, we are in the lands of the Greeks. As far as I remember this is a very VERY different story. Kratos was young, full of rage. And we can relate. We were all young once. We know.
1:08:20 OH NO!
All that work for that damn door😂😂😂😂, mom, brase yourself cus you in for a freaking treat😂😂😂😂
Now get to see how you handle craziness that is the old games. All the good and the rage. One small piece of advice if you'll allow it. Blocking is better than dodging. 95 percent of attacks can be blocked while dodging is more for certain attacks or for getting distance.
yeah i forgot about blocking and did the entire hydra fight on hard mode
@eralia and going from completely different play styles of 2018 to the original probably doesn't help. But you're slowly getting the hang of it by the looks of it. Keep it up and maybe you'll be ready for elden ring like you joked one time ( I assume you were joking anyway)
I think you should change your channel name to Square, Cross, Triangle, CIRCLE.
I’m digging your excavation of the old God of War series. Welcome to the GoW Family.
I did notice when I replayed these with the PS3 remaster that God of War 1 especially, the button command imput is a little delayed on certain enemies, the cyclops', "cyclopses?" the cyclops enemies. The rest of the trilogy is fine its just in the first God of War and a little in the PSP game remasters, with Chains of Olympus mainly with the analog stick finishers. Keep this in mind when proceeding forward with the older games PS3 remasters. I played all of these on original hardware back in the day on PS2 and PSP and never had those issues with input delays on the reaction commands and analog stick finishers
Just wanted to say I love your playthroughs!! 💯 I recommend you play the Danganronpa series and the Zero Escape series one day when you have time. It’s a different type of game than your used to but it reminds me of the Telltale Walking Dead and still has genius writing, heartbreaking lost and amazing fictional characters you’ll get attached to 😌
wow military Eralia playing the old GOW games before Ragnarok?? What is this magic? Wish you luck 😂😂😂😂
“Look at your controller!”
LOL
*"Mortal is easy? You calling me a pipsqueak?"🤣🤣*
P.S.
If you jumped on to the bed with those girls on the boat, you would've got a special surprise😵🔥
Remember to BLOCK, it's very important in these first GOW block saves you form many things
4 fat minotuars in a narrow corridor - I have a petrification ray and a huge ballista (siege crossbow), which is also in the corridor - and of course I have my fists. .... So how am I going to destroy the enemies? - There's only one answer to that: I AM KRATOOOOOOOOOOOOOSS!!!! 🥊😈🥊
1:14:15 And what kind of “mortal” have that kind of strength i wonder 😅😅…and can kill a sea monster like that
I havent seen this game since i was a wee lad. What a throwback.❤
