Greeting from Virginia USA.
The grain structure of this wood must be extremely fine. I can’t imagine the muscle control this art must take. One slip and the piece is toast? It’s hard to even imagine. Is there a way to repair something like this? Brilliant!
Was in Western Honshu in 1999 with my students. I attended a class in making lamp work beads. Also visited a ceramics studio where the master was considered a National Treasure.
Phenomenal and exquisite work. The exactitude needed for their crafts had me holding my breath so many times. They must train from the get-go how to breathe properly as they work. I could see how meditational that would become. They spend thousands upon thousands of hours in pursuit of beauty and perfection.
Im a semi-professional bespoke tailor of men's historical suits - I dont advertise or have any website, I could fill my time 10 X over. I have to avoid publicity as I hate turning enthusiastic people down. There seems to be a massive resurgence in people interested in "REAL". I bought a mechanical typewriter last month to type the name in the labels - apparently, typewriter repair shops are booming, the business they have been in 30 years.
I lived in Tokyo when i was 13-14yr- i never heard or saw the carving - i wonder now what tree: wood carving was used? It takes patience, knowledge, tools, and professional way to carve with your fingers and something wood to use the scapel
Superbe. Extra !!!
I work with yarn but if I make a mistake I can just rip back and correct. So many of these must be done right the first time or the whole thing won't turn out. Takes way more skill and precision.
I find it fascinating that many Asian artists don’t work in solitude, and that they use a collaborative process akin to the assembly line to complete their artistic inspirations. Although I would go absolutely out of my mind producing nothing but hair or heads or hands or garments for different types of Asian dolls all of the decades of my working life, and really can’t understand why 1-2 artists couldn’t do the necessary stages themselves, one can’t really argue with the results, if that’s your sort of thing. For stamp making and the other arts, I wonder if the people who carve or paint the designs ever get to produce their own ideas, or if all they do is work with others’ designs.
Stamp carving was crazy intense work. Too much work. Kiseru was amazing. Was that a Sake cup the guy made from Tin? Lots of exacting labor intensive work. Still dont get polishing lacquer to a mirror finish. So much work for something purely decorative . Glass beads were nice though.
Tension is right. I was stressing just hoping she didn't miss a line carving on that stamp. Talk about the need to have a steady hand. Beautiful

I completely agree! The dedication and skill involved are truly inspiring.

Amazing all the craftsmen are perfect and detailed ! Congrats 👏🏻👏🏻
imo it's a solution for "AI stealing jobs" - people should respect & adore their craftmanship with calmness and sophistication

Very relaxing video to watch. I was out at half of the video. I was sleeping like the dead. 😴

It's definitely a unique approach to creating art, and it's interesting to see how the collaboration impacts the final product.
This is amazing. My fingers are aching on their behalf. This demands respect!!!!

The Japanese are about quality and beauty. The Chinese businesses are about quantity.
Such a flip to AI. Bam, try this with patience and precision. Wow. Most of us would just take an arm off in the process. ♥️
It truly takes a lot of dedication and skill to master these crafts.

What wood it that? It has an incredibly fine grain to allow for such precise carving.

Does anyone know what carving knives are being used to carve the wooden stamp? I havn't seen these before.
They look identical to those used for hand engraving metal (jewelry, swords and so on). I have several.
I assume the wood stamp is made out of hard wood, but is there a particular species that used now, or was traditionally used?

ought to leave the stamps un carved as an option to let anyone carve theirs. Supervise teens to carve even in the shop paint 🎨 them
