Bogoroditse Devo - Rachmaninov - Tenebrae Choir conducted by Nigel Short

- Bogoroditse Devo is the most well-known movement of Rachmaninov's exquisite Vespers, and for very good reason. It opens with beautifully contemplative, hymn-like phrases, before developing and giving way to the electric climax at the repetition of 'Rejoice, virgin mother of God'. First published in 1915 and composed for SSAATTBB, this sacred anthem is a staple of Russian Orthodox choral repertoire.
Recorded live in 2020 in St Augustine, Kilburn by kind permission of the Vicar & Churchwardens, and produced by Jonathan Coates.

Rejoice, virgin mother of God,
Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb,
for you have borne the Savior of our souls.

Magnifique, un peu de lumière dans cette période obscure que nous traversons
tout a fait d'accord. paisible et magnifique
This is the antidote to a busy, stressful modern day. Thank you so much for putting this out there. Even my dogs are loving it.
That is one beautiful performance!
I really liked Maestro Nigel Short's stylistic choice of making sure the singers had ample time to catch their breaths by allowing organic pauses between phrases unlike most other renditions on UA-cam where the singers are expected to make their pauses overlap, which usually makes for a dizzying rendition that isn't really emotional and sounds rather 'tiresome' because it feels endless and dragged out.
This was truly splendid to listen to and brought back the pleasant memory of discovering this song thanks to the rehearsal that was uploaded a while ago.
Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤
TRULLY FANTASTIC every single singer, big thanks
La perfection, le paradis, une sensation de bien être, je me sens portée ❤ merci
