I love to see your reverence & appreciation for the animal. It’s something that’s becoming lost on hunters today in the age of social media. It’s all about the kill and not about the purpose. The range of emotions through a hunt fluctuate so much, the excitement of the hunt & closing the distance, the anxiety when the hunt comes down to the wire, the excitement of an ethical, clean kill & then getting choked up with every kill because at the end of the day, you’re taking a life. A deep appreciation for these animals & the process of doing what we were designed to do is the only way & reason to do it. Love what you do & what you represent.
David Bass bro you expressed how I felt to a tee, Clay thank you for sharing such a beautiful insight into your life, if any video deserves to go viral this is it!!!!
Clay nice to see a guy who doesn’t disrespect the animal. No I smoked em, he’s on my hit list or any of that stupidity! Congrats & that’s some fine meat enjoy it brother.
Exactly, i even cried at first hunt, my first hunt was a small fox , shot with my horse bow from 20 meters, i cried and pondering and say apologize to the dead fox even thou he's not aware of it anymore, i love when see you respect the animal after respectful clean shot, i kinda annoyed when people just shoot animal without purpose and treat it's dead body really bad, and they started terrorizing people with their bow now, even thou they shot pretty much awful and cocky, weapon and terrorism it's a big problem at my place, the main visible character from 'em so you can spot 'em as a terrorist was : shoot pretty awful, pretty dumb stupid and egoistic barbaric worst character especially when they hunt, it's really bad,....even they treat people like an animal,.... that's really good to see respectful hunt in this video...
You are an example of how we are too engage our families. How sharing are hunting practices teaches our children morals that will be with them the rest of their lives!
All I can think of is how lucky this kid is to have this awesome experience with his dad.. This is the kind of thing he will look back his whole life and absolutely cherish..
You're blessed, Clay. Seeing your wife and two sons with you like this... that's just beautiful. I hope I'll share the same thing with my little boy in a couple of years.
The best part of this hunt, and the part I respect you most for Clay, is seeing you show genuine respect for the animal that gave its life, to sustain yours and family. Also that you can do this as a family and that your showing this gratitude to your boys. From another stickbowboy !
Someday those boys are gonna look back and realize the gift you've given them. As a traditional bowhunter you really capture what it's all about. Thanks buddy.
Clay ,,you a one in a million. A great father, husband ,hunter, survival list, and someone who I would have liked to have known many years ago .. Congratulations on your elk .. and continued success in the future wherever it takes you !!
I tried still hunting this year late august. Learned a lot this year. Had many opportunities and got fairly close. Also learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes. Didn’t get an animal but I loved every minute.
What a good father you are. Not only is still hunting a lost art, but being a father and husband is becoming a lost art. Love your channel Clay. Your videos taught me a lot about traditional archery. I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon on my first solo backpack hunt into the Lemhi Mountains.
Congratulations on your Elk and your good fortune on Alone. You and your wife are raising your family well. America needs more parents like you and your wife.
So great to see your whole family help with the pack out. Not only did you get the meat out of it but memories like that cant be faked and everyone gets to feel the prid and accomplishment of a successful hunt and makes it taste that much sweeter for everyone.
Clay, this is absolutely awesome! You definitely rock, my brother. This is the epitome' of a great American family. Thank you for being the man you are.
Clay, congratulations on a great stalk! I have been on many similar ones, usually not ending with the hoped-for outcome. I agree with you, still hunting is my favorite way to hunt as I think it is the fairest to the animal AND allows me to learn the area. As with you, I treat the moment with reverence as these magnificent animals give their lives for our sustenance. Seeing hunters whoop and holler and high-five and dance around after they harvest an animal I think is disrespectful and uncalled for. Anyway, I love your videos. Thanks for sharing and please keep doing so.
Thank you for taking us with you Clay I've been watching your channel for years now and I have learned a lot about primitive hunting, bow making, string making, you name it I've learned from you. Glad to see the whole family together and what a bonus having them along to help pack the meat out. At this rate you will have that freezer full again in no time. God Bless.
This is the content I need to get through the work day. As soon as I get home, I’m heading straight for the tree in an attempt to get my first traditional kill. Cold front hitting the North East right now.
I think modern man is quickly forgetting his hunting, gathering, and trapping roots. I'm glad to see that people like yourself are keeping it alive! Being in wild places has always brought me joy! Congrats on the cow! That's good eatin' right there!
Beautiful wife, beautiful boys and a dad that loves them all. You are a wealthy man Clay. Thank you for leading by example. As a husband and father. God Bless
Been hunting with recurves and longbows since the early '60's. It gives me great pleasure to watch and listen to such an experienced hunter and articulate spokesman for this style of hunting. There are few people I'd share a camp with, but you're on the list. Thankee for sharing...
Clay, I have been watching you for years. You have been instrumental in my bow making success, and your documented hunts are the only hunting film that I enjoy and appreciate all aspects of. There is no fluff, no acting, just well filmed and edited raw documentation of an extremely accomplished woodsman and his family. Thank you for the content you provide.
So much goes into this kill - the making of the bow, the practice with the bow, the steadying of the nerves when taking the kill shot, the stalking, the wind, terrain, tracking... and a bit of luck! Truly incredible. To finally take down a beast of that size... it's something quite spiritual.
Thank you so much. I've been still hunting deer for three years without a teacher. I've never even seen a deer yet. And after watching this, I can understand why I possibly haven't. Thank you very much for sharing.
Awesome family. You're a good teacher besides an excellent hunter. Your boys are gaining so much value from you and their lovely mom's input into their lives. I hope others that follow your adventures listen carefully to your talks you give on your paused moments during the stalk because you explain your actions so very well. Really enjoying your videos. Much admiration from South Africa.
Congrats on the elk and winning Alone Clay! Been watching your channel for years and really learned a lot from you. Keep up all the great content brother!
God gave those beautiful creatures to us to survive. We must thank are god for accuring these blessings and feeding are family's. Joy and happiness you are blessed ang may god watch your beautiful wife and family.
Clay, I have been watching you for years. You have been instrumental in my bow making success, and your documented hunts are the only hunting film that I enjoy and appreciate all aspects of. Clay, I've watched your videos for a long time, gained even more respect for your skills and love for your family from watching you on Alone. Stuff like this showing the family and tribal part of hunting just really warms my heart. Wishing you all the best of everything man.
Brother, you have it/life figured out! What you are doing is awesome! I've learned a ton from you!!! You just can't find this anywhere. I hope you realize that.......
Alas, my still hunting days are over. too crippled up to even walk in the woods much less be quiet about it. still need to do some fine tuning on my Osage self bow that I made. mainly on the grip for a more consistent grip. I made three of them, one a bendy bow and love them all. There is nothing quite like taking game with a bow that you made from a tree. I do need to cover it with snake, just for camo effect. you have two very lucky boys, experiences and memories that can never be known by anyone else. Enjoy them and your life while you can.
I've watched many hunting videos, many that depict my style of hunting. These are the hunters I admire. One thing that is difficult is explaining my methods and experiences. This is not just with non-hunters, but fellow hunters as well. You nailed it so perfectly, I had to share with my wife...who's heard all my stories and wax eloquent my hunts. I stopped hunting Columbian Blacktails with a rifle about 15 years ago (absolutely nothing against rifle hunting...still do it, just not with Blacktails). The first success with archery hooked me. Your video, talking about your philosophy and methods hit it 100% on the nail. It was so clear. Especially related to still hunting and the experiences it creates...which often doesn't include the animals you are pursuing. Additionally, several years ago I discovered just how much noise a single Blacktail can make just taking a couple steps in a draw, tugging small plants. Heard him before I even saw him. Now am religious about protecting my hearing...it is a top reason for my success. Also, funny how many times Steller's Jays give them away.
What a wonderful video that was a nice spot in stock hunt but the best part of the whole video is the family time together working as a team appreciating what mother nature gave you got to work for it but you going to have some really good memories and meals
Congratulations on your elk Clay! I know you and your family are thankful for it...a freezer full of meat is a feeling of accomplishment, and of great benefit. While time hunting with friends is great, I really respect you for carrying your family along. You can’t put a price on the benefit of the time your family spends together...you may never know the difference it can make in your sons life’s going forward, but it is undoubtedly there.
Loved your vid sir, congrats 👏 Hearing all of your advice took me back to my youth. And hearing my dad and uncle drill those skill sets on still hunting into me.
Another great hunt Clay. Love how you have got your family involved in the whole process. They know how to survive. Also glad you won on the show. Best wishes to you all.
Wonderful footage, Clay. What I enjoy the MOST about videos like this is the solace to the soul they give. (The older I get, the more I hate city - road noise!)
Amazing video Clay! I was fortunate enough to shoot my first spike elk at 40 yards on September 10th and just 4 days later shot my first buck at 23 yards!!! Truly blessed and like you said. It was a bitter sweet moment! Thanks for all of your advice Clay!
Fantastic video!! brings back memories of my early mornings grouse hunting as a kid some 50 years ago. My father is long passed now and my mother no longer able to go far from home. looking forward to this coming grouse season in a month with those memories to guide me . Thanks for sharing!
I’m hunting for the first time this year, and with little guidance outside of the internet, it’s been a bit of throw everything against the wall and see what sticks. Learning a bunch about wind and a ton of respect for the animals and their abilities. I’ve tried still hunting and am learning patience, lots of patience. I first found your videos years ago when I was learning to make stickbows and I find a lot of inspiration from you. Thanks for all you do and keep it up. My wife and I both loved watching you on alone and were really happy that you were able to win.
Awesome to see you succeed! I love traditional archery because of the true connection to nature and the animals that you have that is not present with other types of hunting! Thanks and be Blessed!
Can’t wait to take my son hunting, the main reason I follow your channel is because of your humbleness and including your family on your hunts.god bless y’all and congratulations on on Bull brotha. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I can tell that you care about the animals you shoot. Been hunting since I was 5. 24 years later it’s still tough to take each life and not the part of hunting I enjoy. They experience one bad day, but a lifetime of free range as they were intended to. Thanks for such a great video and congrats on the harvest!
You can still get Deer or other animals, like Turkey or even some of the wild boar. I want to hunt wild boar, you are lucky to have that there unless you are in the Florida Keys on those smaller Island cities.
Congratulations... You are so blessed to not only to elk hunt but to enjoy the experience with your beautiful family! My elk bow hunt ended about a month ago. No meat this hunt. One more hunt, (rifle) in February 2022.
Congrats on everything that's happened in your life. Great job on that beautiful cow. No trouble with THAT bloodtrail. The most meaningful thing I took from this video though was the involvement of your family. Actually brought a tear to my eye. After 40 plus years of bowhunting whitetails (and one horseback elk hunt) the last 20 with a 52 lb. longbow my dad made in his garage, unfortunately, back problems have forced me to consider a crossbow. Not a move I ever thought I could bring myself to make but such is life. Thanks for showing the world the right way to approach hunting.
Congratulations on your Elk it's awesome you take your family with you and share the experience with them ,itsy good that children know the work that providing for them and the family can also be a fun experience. Stay safe
Those boys are going to grow up into fine young men. Life changing stuff happens when you take your kids into the outdoors and spend time and teach them about nature and hunting. Great hunt Clay, congrats buddy. 👍🏹🦌
10:47 that's the best way to understand anything: first hand experience ;) the learning process of trial and error to gain expertise is glorious. sadly, in today's world, 'ive been told so' is considered actual knowledge. great work man.
After watching and thoroughly your videos for so many years, I can see you have just risen to a whole other level. Quite beautiful camera work! As with still hunting there's softness and humility to this video. Thank you!
Dude, seriously thank you for sharing this experience with your family. Made me feel good and reminded me of my own family. Great work, keep the faith man!
I love to see your reverence & appreciation for the animal. It’s something that’s becoming lost on hunters today in the age of social media. It’s all about the kill and not about the purpose. I know people that can't get Elk on a guided hunt, with a compound bow. And this man does this spot and stalk trad.
Been hunting with recurves and longbows since the early '60's. It gives me great pleasure to watch and listen to such an experienced hunter and articulate spokesman for this style of hunting. There are few people I'd share a camp with, but you're on the list. Thankee for sharing...

Great video awesome to see families sharing a tradition. That's what it's all about
You're raising those boys right man, good job.
After watching and thoroughly your videos for so many years, I can see you have just risen to a whole other level. Quite beautiful camera work! As with still hunting there's softness and humility to this video. Thank you!
Thanks much
