Your systems and production methods are great! You remind me of myself when i was your age. Keep up the great work and enjoy the adventures.
Definitely put that entrance well above the trap pan. That has 2 benefits.
1. As you mentioned it forces the weasel to slow down put his front feet up on the edge then hop in.
2. By forcing the weasel to jump into the box (if you place the trap correctly mind you, which you set the trap closer towards the bait than you would with a lower hole) that weasels full body weight is committed to that landing. I use #0 long springs and sometimes #1's it's not uncommon to have a dead weasel, with all 4 feet in the jaws. He can't avoid the jaws of he jumps on it. If he can slowly put his front feet on the pan and it triggers, there's a non-zero percent chance he can roll out of the range of the jaws. They are fast little buggers, and you wanna catch them when you get your chance because they travel.
Also where legal, I really recommend bird feathers in the back of the box. In pa we have to be careful with feathers because we can't have a feather visible from the air. Like not one single feather. So I use dove wings and solid backs with about 10 1/4 inch holes drilled in the back for my weasel boxes. It's also important to note that weasels really like fresh bait.
Your video was excellent thank you!
Very economical and durable using fence slats. And super neat showing us your actual catch!
My parents in central Nebraska just had a chicken Holocaust and a weasel is the suspected culprit.
Great video, love how you explain it all.
Glad I could help
Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can get revenge on the weasel that killed my hen.
Love your video. I’m a professional Predator Hunter in Alaska and they sure would like to try my hand at Trapping Erman for my grandchildren. Your video answered nearly all my questions. How many Ermin can you expect to catch in one trap set before you move your box?with all the boxes you have how many Ermin do you catch in a typical year? Keep up the good work I really enjoyed it.
Nice video.. Lots of good information. Thanks and be safe out there..
Thank you. You stay safe as well.
Your video is really helpful. I have built a couple of boxes. However, my stoats seem to be really smart and are setting the traps off then eat the bait. Are there any tricks to actually catch them?
Weasels can squeeze through a half inch hole.
Great video. Thank you! Wish I could buy one.
If you were to buy one, what would you pay? I have had the thought of doing so. Never been sure what the demand is though.
@@TheLordoftheNorth I really have no idea. I’m sure that the cost of materials (good cedar, galvanized or stainless hardware) , fair pay for labor, taxes, and shipping would need to be taken into account. I’m someone who’s not really handy with building things and would probably be willing to pay more than someone who could easily do it themselves. I guess you would have to see if there was a market for them and if there wasn’t, you could just use them yourself. Maybe offer them pre- cut, pre drilled and with all needed hardware, but not assembled so the shipping might be less.
FnT sells them. 20 plus shipping. They come in colors.
nice video man thanks!
Where did you get the bait containers from?

Will this work to trap mink?
I understand the meat the lower that you’re using is that anisette itself
Only thing I'm confused on is what did you add to the meat and why?
Anise oil. Just an extra attractant.
But not absolutely necessary. As a Trapper, he's trying to do everything he can to increase his odds.
im impressed
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope all is well.

Do you ever get Least Weasels?
Last summer I had a weasel kill 36 baby chicks in the little brooder box heartbreaking this last week was just recently the weasel stuck it’s nasty little head out from underneath the chicken coop and killed two more I can’t afford to live like this and lose my livestock if you wanna call chickens livestock it’s poultry but that’s my food supply from my home how do I get rid of this miserable little Beast that’s so destructive
Block all the chickens in the coop. Seal all holes. Make a fake hole that leads it over a trap pan.
I’m not very good at woodworking I’m gonna give it a try I got enough to make two trips I got two 1by 6and I’m gonna try to go by your dimensions I know they’re a 1 inch thick so they’re gonna be a little heavy to carry but not much And does it matter the meat or the bait did you use I was just going to use raw chicken or maybe get a couple little frozen mice from the pet store because I’ve lost too many birds I think this little Weasel has got yourself A family underneath my chicken house if I can get rid of her I’m hoping the babies don’t survive but at least I’ll feel a little better with the trap out there I mean this weasel came out in broad daylight and I saw where she came out of the ground and attacked my birds
Hey man how did your build go?
Heres the thing about weasel boxes.
The dimensions are totally something you can play with. The entrance hole should be no smaller than an inch and a half and no bigger than two inches. The entrance hole should be closer to the roof of the box than the ground. Baits are something you can play around with but chicken is a great bait. It's killed a lot of weasels. Beaver meat works better in extreme cold, duck works, mice work, pheasant wings work.
Just think about how the weasel will enter the box and where the pan of the trap needs to be in relation to how the weasel will enter.
Lure is another story. Anything with a heavy skunk odor will draw the little guys in from a long ways off. Skunky lures just work for weasel at least for me. Dunlaps hellfire lure is great. It is VERY STRONG. Usually comes wrapped in electrical tape and double bagged and you can still smell it through the packaging. Works good on fishers, fox, coyotes, weasels, bobcats, probably wolves and other stuff too.
Great video . Check out my new version of the weasel box .
Looks like it would work well for the weasels frozen in.
Before I ask I'd like to say that I'm not a tree hugger or a member of PETA. Maybe you covered it in the video and I missed it but why kill them ? Are you eating them ? ?????
Because once they get in and get ahold of your livestock, they never leave unless dealt with. They are notorious for escaping live traps and in places like NYS its illegal to relocate. They're not domesticated like house ferrets, they are a predator and will decimate a chicken coop
They are probably the most evil creatures on Earth. They can get through a hole no larger than a quarter. If one gets into a chicken coop it will kill ALL the chickens, not just what it needs to eat. They do it just for fun, out of malice, unlike other predators who kill to eat. As someone who has witnessed a horrific massacre committed by a weasel, I would like to thank the OP for killing some of them and making the world a better place.
