I've always been an AMT girl myself 😉. They're detailed enough to achieve great looking builds without having 6ooo parts & taking two years to complete. They're the porridge Goldilocks chose!
I suspicion your windshield issues really trace back to the actual car design, it's pitched at such a great slant & being a convertible the model's windshield can't really be braced very well from the top; but you're so talented & resourceful I enjoy watching you figure a way around these problems.😊 You're a great help to us less skilled builders!
I built this kit about five years ago. I couldn't help but laugh when Richard started talking about the problems he had with this kit. This kit was a nightmare!!! It has been a long time since I did some modelling, and I was glad to get back into it. This was the kit I decided to build to get back into the hobby. I thought all the problems that I had was because of me not building for such a long time. Painting it was unbelievable. Most of that was my fault. But I should have seen what was coming after I had to remove the body paint three times. I had every one of the problems that he had. I filed and cut, glued and re-gluded. I used putty, shaped and sanded and repainted the spots that I had just used putty to fill in the gaps that I just made to set the rear bumper in place, fix the left front wheel and try to fit the body on to the frame. I broke the windshield frame trying to fit the clear part in. The rear view mirrors broke trying to remove them from the sprue. If you don't like someone, or want to play a joke on a friend, buy them this kit. You'll have a lot of laughs. Just don't buy it for yourself! I wouldn't build this kit again if it was free. Richard doesn't have a problem with shaking hands or his eyesight. It was this kit that gave him those problems.
I read were they had a problem with the art work on the box , they had to change were the guys hand/arm was at .. Anyone remember ? Good job on the model Richard ...........
Working on one now already having fit issue the windshield is a horrible lol but going keep at it thaws is my last AMT going stick with Revell great video take care.. !
Looks pretty good overall. I had issues fitting the body over the chassis with a Nova model I built a while back. It was an AMT kit, too. It took a little wrangling but I got it. You said you took a knife to that antenna to cut it from the sprue. Should have used a pair of nail clippers. They don't apply pressure from one side like a knife does. Still a pretty good job!
It seems you guys do not realize that front wheels are way off back. The suspension do not fits them in the center of wheel wells. I m thinking about re-do the lower mountings and advance the upper control arm 1. 5 MM to get them in rigth place.
The three two barrel carb option was the M code 390 with higher compression and higher flow heads. I figured it was a 406 but those were for the bigger cars. I like the FE series engines 352- 428 big blocks with the factory horse power options.
That being said it is the only kit of this car available at this time....& it will require skills with tools.... but with determination has the possibility of being a good build! I actually built this kit alongside an old original 1963 Thunderbird "screw botttom" hardtop 're-build' that needs window post repair!
They are all that bad man I opened mine looked for someone building it and put it back on the shelf cuse everything you had problems with was the whole kit was a problem but damn you made it look really good it almost looks like someone made their own molds and poured every part and sold it as a kit and the parts are roughly in the right shape you just gotta sand a file them to the perfect shape and get all the flashing off it
Most of their kits are decades old. Technically they don’t even really exist as a company anymore. Round 2 just basically bought up all the names of the old model companies and rereleases all their old kits periodically.
You need to trash that cheap cutting mat. I've had excellent results with Fiskars brand cutting mats, they always stay flat. The tri -power set up was on the SPORT ROADSTER and for the normal convertible a 4 barrel carb in both cases a 390 was under the hood
It wasn’t cheap. Lol. But I’m going to use it till it wears out. I’m 99% sure this one warped because the idiots we had doing painting in my Toyroom put the desk this was on outside on the balcony in direct sunlight.
The Tire Packing is Due to the new Pad printed Whitewall areas. This stuff can scuff up if they're packaged loosely like just 4 tire in plastic bags. So isolated by this bag tight method keeps them perfect on Whitewalls & this tyoe package is new due to Round 2 in the new "Retro Deluxes" format enhanced Tires n parts like. Red/Blue/ Gray tint Glass options and parts retuned to kits missing for 15-20 years Sometimes. It makes these Deluxe kits sometimes a Bargain over same kit but earlier issue @ 50% of price off ebay. Unless person is going Strictly stock factory car build as you often do I give this only as perspective Explaination. We buold kits as to how it makes us happy n satosfied as our cool shelf piece Happy Building. Friend
Yeah, I rarely use custom parts. I’m pure nostalgia and like ‘em showroom ready. If they charged extra for custom kits I’d opt out. I passed on a 62 Pontiac last week (on clearance at hobby lobby) because it couldn’t be built stock.
nice build. Brevity would make it flow better. I paraphrase Twain here. After a lengthy letter to a friend he wrote, "I apologize for the length of the letter - I didn't have time to make it shorter." I use those oaints, too. What do you think about discussing them in the beginning?
Lmao!!!! Ahhh man sorry but i couldnt help laughin my ass off...i built this one abt 4 or 5 years ago and man....i was pissed when i got to the part where i realised it will not go together.... I ended up loosing my entire life collection a few years ago...an that unfinnished kit went with em.i never finnished it. Im debating getting it again tho cuz its so detailed an cool....so wuts the deal? Trim shit outta the windshield frame underneath?
Yea I think I'm gonna put this kit back on the shelf and work on my new revelle Germany Shelby Cobra kit is gonna be alot more fun the fooling with this stupid ugly horrible jagged edge body and parts that don't fit right ollie's special is what this kit was amt had such a hard time selling this kit they had to sell them whole sell to ollies
Getting an old AMT kit to look this good is an achievement!
I've always been an AMT girl myself 😉. They're detailed enough to achieve great looking builds without having 6ooo parts & taking two years to complete. They're the porridge Goldilocks chose!

Nice build in spite of the tough time you had fitting the body. The interior looked awesome.
Richard I am building this kit now and had to do much wrangling using cutters, knives , emeroy boards and razor saw but it it fitting well now!
The '62 T-Bird is my all time favorite car, got to get this model.
a tip: you can watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies recently.
@Colten Harlan Yup, I have been watching on Flixzone} for since december myself :)
@Colten Harlan definitely, I've been watching on flixzone} for months myself :D
Just my opinion those cars look great with the fender skirts

I feel your pain. Lol
Looking great
I read were they had a problem with the art work on the box , they had to change were the guys hand/arm was at .. Anyone remember ? Good job on the model Richard ...........
Cool Tbird
Nice looking build, well done!...Bill
Great looking model. Did the same one in red.
Ma voiture préférée !!Belle maquette ,bien montée bravo
I had this exact kit, but it was from 2002, I am still doing it, but seeing those fitment issues scares me.
Hopefully it goes well
Working on one now already having fit issue the windshield is a horrible lol but going keep at it thaws is my last AMT going stick with Revell great video take care.. !
Revells are usually nice but sometimes you just have to accept the flaws if you want to have a model of certain cars.
Wasn’t much room between the sprue and the part. I use a pair of nice nippers for most parts.
I have encountered good and bad kits from all brands. I do all my cars and trucks custom so I can pretty much figure out problems with some patience.
Sometimes I’ve reached my patience and say the hell with it…good enough. Lol
Hahaha good one 👍
It seems you guys do not realize that front wheels are way off back. The suspension do not fits them in the center of wheel wells. I m thinking about re-do the lower mountings and advance the upper control arm 1. 5 MM to get them in rigth place.
Yeah, I’ve noticed some models have that issue. I usually don’t bother modifying it.
Good point
I also build mine stock
The three two barrel carb option was the M code 390 with higher compression and higher flow heads. I figured it was a 406 but those were for the bigger cars. I like the FE series engines 352- 428 big blocks with the factory horse power options.
Yep
Cool kit
Yea, I always prefer the stock badging decals over what I consider useless customizing striping.
That being said it is the only kit of this car available at this time....& it will require skills with tools.... but with determination has the possibility of being a good build! I actually built this kit alongside an old original 1963 Thunderbird "screw botttom" hardtop 're-build' that needs window post repair!
That's why I use brass wire for antennas.
Sry clean build... well done... build on
They are all that bad man I opened mine looked for someone building it and put it back on the shelf cuse everything you had problems with was the whole kit was a problem but damn you made it look really good it almost looks like someone made their own molds and poured every part and sold it as a kit and the parts are roughly in the right shape you just gotta sand a file them to the perfect shape and get all the flashing off it
I try to make the best I can with what’s in the box. Sometimes I just put it aside for months if it’s a trouble one.
CANT understand why AMT cannot build same quality as Tamiya. Thanks for the info. I have a Round 2 model of †his kit now to build....
Most of their kits are decades old. Technically they don’t even really exist as a company anymore. Round 2 just basically bought up all the names of the old model companies and rereleases all their old kits periodically.

originally an annual kit.

You should see the stuff I edit out! 😂

Adam Marsden
Yeah that seems to be the main area of problems.
To bad about fit. But still looks good.
You complain about AMT kit issues yet u continue to build them... i think they are poor kits
I like the cars they make that nobody else does. Grew up doing them. Some are better than others.
That’s to bad about the fit issues
So you warp the model by leaving it next to a towel then winge on about the fit !! LMAO Muppet.... Still ....Trump will sort it out ..
Wtf are you babbling about?
@@Kryptosmaster
Hate it when people winge.
I watched The Muppets when I was a kid.
