  • Filmed by Lars Falt in 1995 in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden at the International Survival Conference that was hosted by the Swedish Army. There were approximately 150 students from the Swedish Army. The footage is rough and was converted from PAL format but it is nostalgia at it's best.

    Ever notice, survival instructors seem to need to design their own model knife and theirs is always the best? Ray Mears was part of the inspiration that got me into bushcraft and survival.

    Ray Mears experience will save your life if you learn and practice what he knows on a monthly basis!
    I would add don't use kydex sheaths as they will freeze your knife or handgun tight as super glue. Think I'm kidding, stick it in the freezer for a few hours. Then try and pull it out.

    I was wondering if there was any footage of Ray and Mors. Ray has mentioned Lars in a number of his TV shows and I believe Mors has mentioned Lars as well. Small world when you're in the bushcraft elite. By the looks of Ray, he looks about the same age as when he made the lean-to episode in the Boreal forrest.

      I don't believe so, at least Mors has never mentioned it. He did meet Ray for the first time on the airplane going to this Survival Conference. I wish we did have more footage from that conference. There were a whole lot of people there with a whole lot of knowledge. I know Mors has great respect for Lars and Ray. I also know that the respect is mutual.

      +Karamat Wilderness Ways --Thanks. What always amazed me was that Mors and Lars, though a half a world apart, but in the same boreal climate, developed very similar skills. I have wondered if it was handed down to them, or, did they both discover what worked from their own experience.

      +Karamat Wilderness Ways Mors was pissed at Ray Mears for trying to patent the term Bushcraft or so I heard!

    Ok, so it has poor sound and does not show anything exciting vs what 10 other survival/bushcraft channels do today - BUT back in 1995 when one could only dream of youtube and the net was in it's infancy, this would have been amazing to participate in. Still fun to see it.
    Also, Jukkasjärvi is located near Kiruna, and it is a Sami name for "Gathering place". It is NOT located in Finland.

    • @hauki9286
      @hauki9286 5 років тому

      Jukkasjärvi is infact finnish language, named by the finnish settlers. Cohkkirasjávri was the original name of the lake the town is located. It means also a lake, maybe like gathering lake. Just a tid bit of information :)

    The safest way to use a knife/axe is to leave it at home. We dont really need them. They are crutches. You can do everything without them. They are great ways to hurt yourself no matter how skilled you are. Dont forget every culture that has ever existed lived/survived without any modern tools.

    • @1stcSOLDIER

      Lol don't be silly. A cutting tool is necessary for survival. Carry both when in the backcountry ..
